  1. first off, that's pretty lame that you would run to target on opening day . second, i remember that story. from what i heard, there was near rioting, and windows were broken. true?
  2. and plenty of bergen business owners are pushing to overturn what they call out outdated law. one would have to imagine that some parts of bergen county would be unliveable if they overturn the law. however, it would make it a lot more convinient to shop.
  3. mojo nixon sang something to that affect a while back in his song "burn down the malls"...went a little like this: all though i'm not a big fan of government getting in my face, especially when it's got religion behind it, i don't feel that alcohol, teenagers, and cars don't mix. maybe you should get a choice when you're 18: you can drive, or you can buy beer. then again, i'm pretty sure than any teenager who wants beer gets it. you just can't find weed anymore damnit!
  4. NJ has lots of good ol' fashioned blue laws started by the god fearin' folk years ago. as do most states along the eastern seaboard i'd imagine. in south carolina, practically *nothing* is open before noon on sunday. god, apparently, doesn't want you to shop before church. i can deal with the shopping laws to some extent, but those darned liquor laws really get me all bent outta shape. makes my turn my back to the church really. no, really it does.
  5. did we lose some posts overnight?
  6. i recall that while the burger was fantastic, it was also quite messy to eat. along with fries which i felt obligated to eat with my fingers. quite messy. quite delicious. it's not very often that you can get a burger with a decent glass of red. a combination that to me is just fantastic.

    China 46

we enjoyed another fantastic meal at china 46 tonite. this time with jason and rachel perlow and jhlurie. as usual, our host Cecil was accommodating, and brought out a few "extras". the highlight of the dinner was when mrs. tommy tried to "out-nerd" the rest of the table by pulling out a blackberry. jason perlow, sensing a challenge, quickly countered by imitating, perfectly, just about every sound from the original Star Trek (table favorite: the sound when people turn into completely different things..."ba-wha-wha-wha-wha-wha-wha"). luckily jhlurie convinced jason to not break into battlestar galactica sounds, as he would have out-nerded us for dinners to come at that point...and not a moment too soon. the "spock falls in love" bit was good as well, if not a little creepy. luckily, we didn't hear the "hippy spock" song, from the episode with those people who were searching for eden. luckily. i'm still giggling over the note-for-note "ba-wha-wha-wha-wha". oh yeah, and the food was really good too.

    Beer with Food

after following this thread for a while, i decided to pick up some alsatian and german wines. i happened to be out of the NYC area and went to a wine store that carried more of a selection of these wines than my local merchant, and more that were less than 20 dollars. as it happens, one was this Dr. Loosen, strictly by coincidence. i shared this bottle tonite with the perlows and jhlurie during a chinese dinner. it was a 2000, and it was 8 bucks. perhaps it could have benefited from a few years in the bottle, but at that price, it was a very reasonable purchase for immediate drinking (maybe jason has some further thoughts one way or the other about that bottle?). bottom line, thanks to all of you freaks for spending so much time on this stuff. i think i'll actually make an effort to get into the germanics and alsatians, as i've been putting it off for years.
  9. you ate *all* of that???? seems like "comfort food" overall, but sounds like something i'd be into. and BYO ta boot?!!?? yay for them.
  10. you people. i'll not able to make it then. and i was very much looking forward to finally making it to luger's. i was going to order that burger and everything. perhaps wilfrid and i will plan a trip the following week. just the two of us. all romantic like.
  11. LOL! that was silly.
  12. what's the neighborhood like over there.
  13. i'm eating a bag of utz's 'home style kettle-cooked' chips for the first time. they've somehow managed to make them taste like Buger King's fries.

yeah great, but liza *does* spend an inordinate amount of time at the farmer's market. and if she's not there, she's on egullet talking about it.
  19. we had almost as many on that random friday nite!!!
  20. i thought it was ridiculous up to 2 seconds ago. you're right. most of the time, especially at "asain" restaurants, you're given what amounts to a shot glass. sooo, when you BYOG, what do you tote them in? i'm sure we all have special insulated wine bags, but how does you stemware travel?
  21. i see that NY isn't represented. they don't know what they're missing. isn't lou reda a chef?

liza spends more time at the farmer's market than i spend at the pub. and that's a lot of time.
