  1. i saw ramps at Whole Foods in NJ yesterday, much to my delight. although, i still have no freakin idea what to do with them.
  2. oh, well, when i say "atrocious" in the context of china 46, i really mean "interesting and too complex for my palate". ;) if it's true about what you say with the "tasting like what it ate" thing, perhaps i can ask cecil to feed my next fish soupy dumplings.
  3. strangely enough i went to mcdonald's this morning, but i haven't used my mug. hmmm, maybe i won the wrong gift!? that dinner was 4 hours! the first dinner in newark was long, but a lot of that was filled with chit-chat and drinking. last night was hard-core eating, from start to finish. it was painful after a while, but i was never entirely too stuffed to eat the next course. thankfully, the mississippi mud flap (the fish, not the mullety hair style) was so atrocious that i was able to skip it entirely. you gotta give alan levine props for being not only the first one to dig into that dish, but for also choosing the face as his first bite. noble.
  4. you are a man of impeccable taste. and yes, that beer was awful. ;) actually, it was interesting, but not something i'd drink while eating.

    La Isla

one of the few! and i've never even been there. :(
  6. twice. strange how none of my wine was left but there was lots of beer and other types of wine left. hmmm. strange indeed. :p
  7. how about duck confit shredded and set atop pappadams, with some thinly sliced scallion and maybe a drop of hoisin? super easy to prepare if you can get a hold of d'artagnan's duck legs confit. yummy!
  8. was i the only one waiting for the "tommy: scr*w you" ????

    Drought

my contention is that there are several reasons to order bottled water (my reason being just one no doubt) and that putting ice cubes in doesn't (necessarily) defeat the purpose. just like putting ice cubes in coors light really doesn't make a difference. ;)

i'm sure your comment is a *bit* tongue-in-cheek, but obviously you'll get a lot less "tap" water if you're drinking bottled water with ice than you wold if you were drinking straight tap water. additionally, i started ordering bottled water regularly primarily because i found that the staff couldn't keep up with my water consumption. i wanted to have control over it (bottle on the table usually). of course, a lagging waitstaff wouldn't be an issue at GT. :)
  12. meat on a stick is always popular, and can be eaten cold.

    Industry

i was beginning to think that ajay was taking the piss, getting his/her kicks from sending wilfrid on wild goose chases. well, click here, because the place actually does exist! unless this website is in on it too.
  14. pigs in a blanket!
  15. Iano, do try the "egg rolls" at little saigon. don't let the name dissuade you. the are served with lettuce and mint, and you should roll up the roll and mint in the lettuce. yummy. i could eat them all day. they do a particularly impressive job with pho as well.
  16. nobu, you lucky bastard. little saigon, good for you! make a reservation! paul, yes. well, if you count monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday as every night this week.
  17. i went to china 46 every night this week. tonite though i think i'll just make some pasta at home. :D
  18. yeah, great. it's a good look. 'specially with clogs. so, since they're chefs pants, you must constantly get mistaken for a complete tw*t? :p skipping nola, aye? just as well. that's a week in and of itself!
  19. steven, what's with those pants. seriously.
  20. i use them for rim shots immediately following my horrible jokes. buh-dhm.
  21. wilfrid keeps a pepper grinder in his pocket and a mushroom brush under his bottom lip. he's a walking kitchen i tell ya.
  22. shucks. and i was thinking you've always been so happy to see me. buh-dhm.
  23. i bought my parents one as well. :) i also have one at the office (for lunches or dinner), one in the car, so i'm never stuck without one, and one at home that i pack for vacations. Click here for info on that little fella.
  24. i place a microplane on the table with a hunk of cheese when serving pasta. it does a nice job, and people like playing with it.
