  1. surely you wouldn't judge an entire country based on a handful of people. (read: don't make me mention the spice girls)
  2. is that in hudson or bergen county? i don't think so.
  3. i've read that the widespread phenomenon of cilantro tasting like soap to some people is a factor of the chemicals in ones mouth that react with the cilantro forming compounds that might be found in some soaps. one would think these might be basic compounds, as opposed to acidic, as soap is basic by design, and i think that generally we don't eat foods that are basic on the acidity scale. then again, i could be talking out of my arse.
  4. please don't try to school me or make me look foolish. i was offering a suggestion in direct response to your query. baja, in hoboken, makes a greasy disgusting version of this dish. i don't see what your problem is.

    Potato Salad

ugh. pasty gloppy sh*t. so old school. hell, just about *every*thing needs an acidic note. i've never met an acidic note i didn't like, 'cept raw tomatoes.
  6. baja, in hoboken, offers a sufficiently disgusting version of this dish.
  7. ironically, "new york deli sandwiches", with the exception of the 1/2 dozen or so jewish deli type places around town, are hideously skimpy and lame. they are all bread. now NJ on the other hand...let's just say we know a thing or two about sandwiches over here. we've got *crumbs* bigger than these pret things. miss j: little known secret: NYC is the purging capitol of the world.

    Breakfast

i refuse to wait in line for food. i stopped when i was about 19 and realized that olive garden really wasn't all that good.

    Potato Salad

    most definitely.
  11. i also noticed an asian market on henley on the south side of the street. any comments on that? not to mention a "foods of the world" type shop on kinderkamack in riveredge....
  12. the sign i saw was on the corner of henley and river, and yes, it looks like it was new milford. the sign for white manna even had a picture of the street signs for that cross section.
  13. totally unrelated: on my way through tenafly the other day (actually it was probably riveredge or a town near there, is saw a sign for white manna. however, it wasn't there. was there a white manna there? where did it go?

    Dinner! 2002

wasn't the crust overpowering? as we've discussed, this is one *very* strong spice.
  15. not sure about that moisture bit. i was under the impression that it's a hostile envirnoment for bacteria overall (acidity?), but that a few harmless types *might* grow in it. harmless to healthy adults, but dangerous to infants. disclaimer: i am not a honeyologist, but i am damned sweet.
  16. and unfortunately for me, or perhaps for GT at this point, this was the same guy that i had the last time...and i was quite let down then as well. is there a way to request that you *don't* get a specific server? :wow:
  17. No, as in the four elements of our life here on earth. They are the very things that comprise our existence here and have been studied and dissected by scientists, artists, writers, etc. for eons. stef, if you look up you might see a joke flying by. jeesh. "earth, air, ocean, and fire" was just too hard to work with. Margaret: no soft shell crab??!! that's just not right!
  18. hehe. mark, et al, for the record, i can't go, as i've been told we'll be having people over that day. however, if it rains, that will be called off, and we'll attempt to make our way down there.

    Dinner! 2002

in light of the sun being out (groan), i gilled chicken breast and served it on a baguette with a basil/mint pesto-mayo and red onion, tomato, and watercress. simple, but effective lunch. someone here mentioned homemade mayo not to long ago, which kind of put this in my mind. the mayo wasn't homemade in this case, but the pesto added quite a bit. i would have marinated the chix in the pesto had time permitted. but it weren't. click here for the sandwich. and here to see the non-sandwich that mrs. tommy decided to make.
  20. actually these are pretty easily made from what i understand, and probably better than a lot of the versions i've had in NYC. now i'm hungry just thinking about it.
  21. you don't eat your stuffed pork chops? hell, send 'em to me!

    Liqueurs

i had some kind of pear liquer at union pacific in NYC last week. it really smelled and tasted of pear, but it seemed like it was about 180 proof. almost undrinkable. unsippable even, and i'm no self respecting person.

    Plate Writing

at nobu in NYC, the pastry chef wrote "happy birthday alan" on my plate.
  24. i will check this out on your recommendation, and fink's as well.
  25. air? you mean wind. as in earth, wind, ocean, and fire... which was a little known pop group in the seventies. that is, until they fired billy ocean, and finally became earth, wind, and fire. E,W&F went on to produce a brilliant album entitled All n All. billy ocean went on to produce a couple of pop hits in the 80's that ensured i got my ass kicked in high school. so, to answer your question: "here's my lunch money, please don't hit me "
