  1. a zippy light white. a sancerre or riesling. sauvignon blanc. ever since i went to london, i have been a huge fan of "Pimm's". pimm's is not very big over here in the states, but i found it quite refreshing and delicious, what with it's mint and cucumber slices it's very food-like. no one else seems to know of or care for pimm's. am i completely alone on this one? any recipes for those stuck in the states without access to proper british "lemonade"?
  2. self-important clueless twits who go there because it's a "scene." generally these types of people are not pleasurable to be around, unless you're one of those people, in which case you'd probably think it's the best group of people on the planet. i, however, feel that egullet is the best group of people on the planet, and i'd much rather spend my time in a bar surrounded by the likes of you rather than the likes of them.
  3. the people there are disgusting. well, they were 4 yrs ago when i was last there at least. the all-black crowd.

  6. fink, i sent friends there the other night. they were impressed, although they preferred the ribs over the fried chicken. we'll be back, in full force.

programming? confusing? never works? hate it? don't have tivo? need to get it?
  8. or maybe it's river edge. whatever, it's next to huffman koos. this place has a very good selection of most wines, and rock bottom prices. they also offer a 15% case discount above and beyond, but only on whole cases, and not on all wines. some prices that i remember being notable: ravenswood zin, vinter's blend: 7.59 ravenswood zin, lodi: 12.50 or so. nobilo SB: 8 they are lacking in alsatian and germanic selections, but i would expect they'll start offering more soon. beer is also extremely cheap there. a case of bud bottles, if you're into that kind of thing, runs about 13 dollars. i love to shop locally at mom and pop places, but it's hard to pass up deals like this, even if the place as a corporate feel about it.

  10. if you need garlic peeled and minced, invite jaques pepin over. his knifing skills and specifically his garlic mincing skills are just amazing. but please don't use a garlic press.

vietnamese. amen. ridgewood has a latino/cuban influenced place by the train station. have you tried it? also, there are a bunch of restaurants in ridgewood (as you no doubt know), although most are italian. some good sushi, marco polo in glen rock is pretty interesting chinese, the masses seem to enjoy latour, 28 oak, et al, although i'm never very impressed. how is the sicilian sun? i've been wanting to try it when i'm in the mood for red sauce and pasta, which i assume might be an accurate description? also, up the franklin TP on the left is a chinese place called cathay. i heard that it used to be good, going back years. any experience there? but as you suggest, for an area with so many restaurants, sooo many are italian or just mediocre.

    Dinner! 2002

it was too bloody hot and i was too tired to do anything notable. however, this hamburger came out quite good. the local supermarket, Kings, had rolls that looked like huge white castle rolls. they were quite good. i'm hoping the stock those all of the time, as i'd buy 'em by the sack. edit: ooooo, i like the way links are no underlined (just like they are on the *rest* of the internet! :p)
  13. hmmm, i think i was at flute on 21st, or where ever it is that would put it next to GT. i recall at least 10 sparklers by the glass. it was a dark and hip atmosopher, and didn't appear very big, unless i missed part of it somehow. sorry i can't offer much more than that.

yuppie, maybe, but they have oysters, so that's ok in my book. the *other* place next to the ho-ho-kus in, la carbonaia, is italian, and quite good. i've posted about it here a few times. worth a shot.
  15. any word on this place? it's across the street from the ho-ho-kus in.

  22. more importantly, where does that term come from? yeah yeah, italian i'm guessing, but what does it mean? does it not like pasta? is it the evil opposite of pasti? is it really pronounced, as my italian-american relatives say, "annibost"? so many questions.
  23. i currently do something similar with redi-whip. wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wha...nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah [please note that the ensuing effects are very hard to put into typing]
  24. just be thankful da roof, da roof, da roof isn't on fi-ya. feel free to throw things at me.
