  1. there's a good chance that you'll get to know me and you'll realize that most of my posts, when they sound serious, aren't, and have an implied smiley of some sort. dubious second-to-third-hand info is a funny quote, and certainly welcome here.
  2. Small world. My grandfather always liked it as well. If he hadn't, I probably never would have eaten at the place. i actually made that up to make a point. i think my point wasn't lost on anyone though.
  3. which one did you go to?

    Dinner! 2002

no problem as long as you name it after me. and send me money. i think you'll tend to lose juices when grilling, unless that's your goal. i'm looking foward to trying what you desribed for a light summer lunch. (yeah, pasta is "light" in my book). hell, maybe make it into a fall dish over spaghetti squash.

    Dinner! 2002

from a jar? that's not an insult, but i'm just thinking that i often use jarred stuff, and can't imagine making it from scratch. if you do, please share!

    Fresh herbs

for those interested, this is what the fish in foil with herbs, lemon, garlic and capers turned out looking like. the photo doesn't do it much justice, as the few colors that were there were more vibrant. however, the flavors were brilliant. garnished with some fresh herb and maybe something red, and it's quite stunning. the fish and ingredients make their own sauce.

    Dinner! 2002

thanks to rlynnw on the recent "herbs" thread, i took some of my herbs, of which i have too many, and put them to good use... jersey tomatoes, cut in half, topped with evoo, s/p, fresh thyme, grilled, and then topped with fresh basil. served with grilled steak. holy shnikies. this was the best tomato i've ever had. i don't even *like* tomatoes. i think the next time i want a light summer pasta, i'll halve 8 tomatoes, give them the same treatment as above, bake for 20 minutes, and toss with some pasta. yikes, i think that will be goooood. someone please tell me if the above pasta thing is something that is generally done. tanks.

wow. i tried something like this tonite, and it was incredible. thanks for the idea. i'm posting details on the "dinner" thread.
  12. chop, baby, from now on, try this: "booby flay". i think it works quite well, and you only risk offending chicks with big horns. so, you know, it's cool. edit: hehehe, i typed "booby play"...hehehehehhehehe
  13. not a chance. i just think spunky is good. i'm lost, like doubly.
  14. jason: seek therapy. liza: spunk is good.
  15. perky sells. bowties don't.
  16. "i am not above punching women" you can always point back to that quote on my bio. i thought it was very clever actually.
  17. i think she's very cute and bubbly.
  18. to make sure that you (and everyone else who cares) gets my point, let me rephrase... those who use words and language that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate in a public forum most likely do not realize that they are being insensitive and inappropriate and will therefore scratch their heads when they read a "request" such as yours. speaking of PMs, i always say that if you have something personal to say to someone, PM is generally the way to go. i've had some of my best arguments over PMs. come to think of it, someone has to show plotters how to use PM. so, don't be surprised if "bobby gay" comes up again, either from that poster, or another. and really, i would hope that you won't be offended. hell, my *father* has called me worse.
  19. i didn't necessarily find it offensive, although i did find it queer. queer "strange", not queer "gay"...err, gay "homosexual" not gay "happy"...errr, happy "jovial" not happy "nuts"...errr, nuts "crazy" not nuts "gonads"...errr, seriously, i tend to try at least a little to let people be people. i can't imagine being offended over the ignorant use of a derogatory term on an internet forum. i mean, i can't tell you how many times i've been called a "straight-middle-class-white-guy-from-the-suburbs". yeah, sure, it bothered me for a while. but then i figured, hey, you can't change people. ya know?
  20. i wish you'd aspire to form thoughts into paragraphs.

    Fish Tales

at the risk of being presumptuous, i have to say that i tend to think the boys are girls and the girls are boys here on egullet. i'm so confused.
  22. i think alton is too nerdy, cerebral, and funny for some people. i find him extremely interesting and engaging.
  23. i checked on register.com, and it sure looks open. register.com must use some sort of thesaurus to suggest other options. some that it gave were: Finksfoul Finkssmelly finksfetid sneakfunky however, i wouldn't recommend naming your restaurant or website any of these.
  24. this is why i like the british-types.
