  7. WRONG. it was to increase your total post count. you cannot catch me. i have the next week off and i'm sitting around in my underwear all day long at my computer. which probably doesn't really give me a clear advantage now that i think about. why is it that sriprarprhahaha thai is not in TONY or zagat's. what gives? i'm looking for an address or something. anything. bueller?

Pho-pronounced somewhat like far, is vietnamese noodle soup. Made with either chicken or beef stock, slices of appropriate meat and rice noodles. Topped with herbs, beanshoots and a squeeze of lime juice. It is manna from heaven. Simple pure and divine. ah yes. well, i know what pho is, as it is simply one of my favorite dishes in the world (there was recently extensive discussion on pho eslewhere, including several pronunications). however, i've never seen it with chicken. maybe i'll look harder next time. i'm usually a rare beef guy.
  9. i think you know the answer to that. at least in the context of this thread. so why do you ask?

    Dinner! 2002

i realized tonite that i had my camera set to about 1/5 the normal alreadly lame resolution. messin' up my food porn i'm tellin ya, the below included (and my kittens' pics as well ). at any rate, a quick dinner tonite, prepared last night essentially. thai pork chops thai haricot vert grilled corn on the cob from the farmers' market. my "thai" pork is so silly. i feel like i'm cheating. a marinade of: chopped cilantro lots o garlic lots o scallion some oyster sauce some hoison sauce some soy some fish sauce lots o black pepper brown sugar it's wise to wipe off excess marinade before grilling, as it can be a bit salty if left marinating too long. thai haricot vert: blanch string beans saute 1 tbs thai curry paste and sliced garlic in oil for a few minutes add a bit of fish sauce a splash of red wine or water to losen it all up throw in beans to heat this time i added some beautiful thai basil from the garden, and it worked nicely.
  15. in that case, consider yourself uninvited.
  16. you *can* edit your posts ya know.
  17. i know "drunken crab" is a shanghai thing, which in my estimation basically consists of wine or mirin and sugar with raw crab in it. i'm guessing a chicken version would have to be cooked though!
  18. the good news is there are plenty of leaves in on the trees in the back for the cooks to wipe their arses with. no bathroom? not even for the help?
  19. from?!?!?
  20. pam's. bangkok grand palace, on 1st and 50-ish. i don't know if you want "hot" necessarily, and i'm certainly not convinced that hotter is better. but these places are pretty good. pam's is byob. bangkok grand palace has a reasonble wine list for what it is. it might be important to note when considering my suggestions that i think jai thai produces spicy piles of shit. generally speaking of course.
  21. and glasses.
  22. it has never been busy when i was there. they must really take a hit on sundays, considering the mall is closed. and with the weather the last few weeks, i can image that most people are away or in their backyards.
  23. clearly you are a man of impeccable taste.
  24. actually, for me, it's the oaking. i drink most of my wines young, as i tend to gravitate towards those that wouldn't age well anyway. but yes, i think the new trend in CA is to actually have some fruit come through. this, of course, is a good thing. and to be clear, i'm speaking mostly of white wines here. i am a huge fan of zins. and they're actually not butchering cabernet franc too much.
  25. the room is always off-putting to me. i think because they have to have the blinds closed because it's so bright in the parking lot. i suppose it's more pleasant when it's not daylight. also, i don't care much for their wine list, as it's all CA. however, since i've been there, CA has been producing wines that are a bit more food-friendly, so perhaps i wouldn't be so offended these days. i'm with you on the pasta thing. i don't like meats on pasta.
