i "tip" the starbucks people after i get to know them and i see that i'm getting exceptional service. when i say "tip," in this case, i mean the extra change from the bill, which amounts to 20 or 30 cents or so. it's quite a stretch to consider this "bribery." quite a stretch indeed.

i found it odd that pad thai would be a popular dish there.

yeah, like duck confit! but maybe not curry if you chose duck confit. maybe just some sliced scallion and a sprinkle of cinnamon. and a drop of hoison. i've been suggesting this for quite some time, but have never done it myself. i'll do it soon. i promise.

i saw something in a recent mainstream food mag (food and wine or some such). i forget the specifics, but i'll look it up soon as i'm going to try it. as i recall, it was a basil leaf, stuffed with a cheese of somesort, a mixture in fact, and topped with pinenuts. or something like that. regardless, it was elegant and fingerable.

i know you're smart enough to see the distinction here. so i'll not even comment.

ironically i do go to bars, smoke occasionally, but still wouldn't mind seeing smoking go bye-bye, if only to make the law consistent. if there's one thing i hate it's inconsistency. if there's another thing i hate it's people not recognizing the inconsistency in their arguments, for or against.
