  1. i think if we want to arrange this rutt's hut thing, we should start a new thread, as we might get more responses. perhaps i'll do that...here.
  2. the 5th is perfect for me. the 11th, however, is not. john, when you say the "back", what means you? are we not planning on getting a table in the old man's bar part of the place?

    Dinner! 2003

  4. that was my initial thought. i suppose there are a few gems, but for the most part, those places look disgusting. flies. odor. the whole thing.
  5. BD, what i'm saying is, it would be busier, at least right now. if it wouldn't be, then you can be your ass that pub owners would be banning smoking already. and they ain't.
  6. i haven't suggested otherwise. your vegetarian analogy, however, seems weak at best. just as you get some nonsmokers at smoking pubs, you get some vegetarians at places serving meat. not the other way around for the most part, i'm afraid.
  7. perhaps. but with (business) casualties along the way. if you put two pubs next to each other in midtown, today, and allow smoking in one and ban it in the other, i think you'd see that more people would go to the smoking bar.
  8. who needs books when you have egullet? i guess i probably have about 50. i'd guess that i'm made recipes from only about 10% of those.
  9. Well, you can use it for ginger. c'mon! that doesn't sound all that easy.
  10. making cigarettes illegal is simply not feasible. so, that's not even an option. next?

    Coffee Mugs

i read "balls" in here somewhere. not sure why.
  12. it handles quite a bit. small batches if necessary. it goes quickly. i don't often do more than a few tablespoons of spices on any given day. 2 or 3 batches, in about 1 minute, and i'm done. i love the thing. i think it's brilliant. it handles mustard seeds as well.
  13. i don't grind coffee. this thing is a chopper/spice grinder thingie. this thing, yo:
  14. it's just like a food processor. fast blades. i get all of the good stuff out and bung it right into the pan.
  15. i use a spice grinder thingy to do garlic if i have more than 5 cloves or so. and it's great for lemongrass, ginger, and galangal as well.
  16. chopping onions must be harmful to me. acids get into the eyes nose and throat causing irritation. tom yum koong, the famous thai hot and sour soup, makes me cough and tear too. i'm smelling a lawsuit.

    Coffee Mugs

my egullet mug. it comes in handy. speaking of which,
  18. for the sake of argument, we should probably assume that when we say "chop", and we are comparing this "chopping" with the garlic press method, we're talking about the typical chop, smush, and mash method a la pepin. otherwise, it's clear without a taste test that the texture would be different, and by extension, the flavor, oils or not. edit: just like what varmint said.
  19. as with most things, i rely on common sense, and the opinons of people whom i respect and whose ideas seem to be in line with mine. and the experts say you're wrong. i don't have to do a side-by-side taste comparison to know you're wrong. it's really that simple. what is wrong with you people?
  20. tourist.
  21. yeah, but at least he's being funny and entertaining while being holier than thou.
  22. Not true. First, of course, the EPA has nothing to do with breast implants. You mean the FDA. The FDA was only given authority to regulate medical devices when silicone breast implants were already in use. In view of health concerns the FDA required manufacturers to provide safety information on both silicone and saline breast implants. This would of course be necessary for any new drug or implantable device. Two manufacturers performed the necessary studies for saline implants, but no manufacturer has for silicone. Silicone implants are available as an 'investigational new device' for post-mastectomy reconstructive surgery. You are correct that there is no evidence of adverse systemic reactions to silicone implants. However, as there is no medical benefit to implants, the onus is one the manufacturer to prove safety. Read all about it. ok, mr. smarty pants, tell me why my sweaters stink the next day.
  23. you've obviously never had a whiff of my apartment.
  24. sweaters, too.
