    Alligator meat

well, i've had alligator only twice as i recall, and i remember those versions as tasting like fishy chicken.
  2. and without the help of repetition. or NY'ers for that matter.

    Diwan

the team at diwan seems right on to me. the service is no-fuss, and spot on. they are friendly, cordial, they joke around, and they're very efficient. overall, the service seems to match the overall approach, for me at least. in fact, i've probably not mentioned the service enough in my posts about diwan.

    "Ethnic" food

ugh. my bad. i misread your post. my apologies. however, i still have a hard time reconciling those two interpretations of pan's point (even if they are very similar - but not the same), and the fact that we have several interpretations of a pan's post in the first place.

    "Ethnic" food

i'm a bit disappointed in your tone.

    "Ethnic" food

i know of only one or two words in this culture that fit that description. "ethnic" isn't one of them, and i bet there are some people who would take offense to it being put in the same bucket as those others. edit: or perhaps i'm misunderstanding the outrage that some feel on this issue.
  9. could we please get back on-topic and discuss the white balls in my can? regards, topic police
  10. some people are temperature sensitive.
  11. the temperature.
  12. I know you pass on on capitals but its 0 not O oh.

    "Ethnic" food

when a friend of mine says something like "let's get something ethnic [to eat] today," i know that it means something like "asian" or "middle eastern." it could also mean food from a few other places, but generally not europe. and it's certainly not pejorative. for us, it's a word that effectively communicates our thoughts. we need more of those.
  15. i keep cans of tuna in the fridge because i don't like room-temp tuna. nothing more, nothing less. although i like those little fat blobules even less.
  16. i just want to get home and stay home on friday. by the time i get home from work, it's often after 8 pm. there's little chance that i'll go out to eat at that point, especially at a "fine dining" establishment. saturdays, for me, offer a much more relaxing dining experience.
  17. from what i saw, i was well impressed. especially considering the options i've found in that area. i believe it's technically the "allentown" wegmans.
  18. agh. tourist. i'm go for lunch today if anyone wants to join me. 12.30ish.
  19. double o, i have to say that for the first several years of my rutt's hut experience, i went exclusively to the "dining" area (which is really just an old man's bar). i only recently went to the stand up bit, and that's generally because i'm alone when i go. i do, however, appreciate the back room for all of its nostalgia, dankness, the bartender yelling into the mic "TWO DOGS, PEPSI ONE!!!,"* and beer. i think both sections offer a unique experience, even when compared to each other. * not the 1 calorie pepsi, but rather the number of pepsis (pepsi's?).

    Dinner! 2003

grilled strip steak covered with fried leeks. potato pancakes with leeks and a spice mix (including cinnamon and coriander) roasted brussels sprouts and garlic some sort of cote d'Or from an off year.
  21. so back to the original point, would you consider diwan one of these establishments? the people that i've seen on my 5 or so visits have come across as very well-behaved.
  22. heinz i think. and of course, you reminded me, i have rings quite a bit as well. good ol' sloppy greasy rings.
  23. great report. i've been going to Rutt's for about 15 years, and i've never had anything but dogs, fries, and beer.
  24. i didn't really do much experimentation with them!
  25. i opened a can of tuna to find little white balls all over the top. i'm assuming that it's congealed fat (tuna packed in oil), as i keep the cans in the fridge. but they seem too perfect. this happened once before as well. i ate it then. this time i didn't. any ideas?
