  1. especially when they make a point of making a point of it. not to mention possibly spelling the owner's name wrong.
  2. rodizio. you *have* to specify what you want, or they'll carve off whatever is easiest.
  3. i don't think Mack is right is what i'm saying. signs are often a little more lax than written language when it comes to apostrophes and whatnot. the verbiage on their website has an apostrophe and *also* spells his name differently than Mack.
  4. don't know about that. xaviar's (piermont). "a" and apostrophe. his name, however, is spelled xavier, as opposed to xaviar, which that mack article suggests (at least, according to their website.)
  5. i've always received med-rare meat there when i asked. perhaps i was lucky.
  6. xaviar's was written up the jersey section of the NYT today. err, tomorrow. not the one in paterson. which means that i put this on the wrong thread.
  7. you could start a website devoted to hating and talking about zagats.
  8. maybe i'm just uptight, but if 1 or 2 people bring something from their cellars, it throws off the equity of the evening. i know *i'm* not bringing anything from my cellar (aka, storage room for CDs and luggage). although, i suppose i could even out the playing field by throwing a lapdance to whomever brings the burgundy.

    Fresh Oregano

i've definitely ignored the whole "pesto" concept. i think, in part, because i know how crappyy my ice cubes start smelling after a while. i'm not sure that zip locks, which is really the only storage device i have, will do much good over months. any thoughts?
  10. Hmm. Yours sounds really good too, tommy. Though, I don't like mustard (don't kill me). Everything else, including those sun-dried tomatoes sound delicious. In fact, you've inspired me my good man. The chicken beckons! mustard only because it's healthier than mayo. although, i'd generally mix sriracha and mayo on that sandwich.
  11. i'm sure everyone's aware of this, but, this one ain't gunna be cheap.
  12. i'm kinda with pixel. grilled chicken, watercress, red onion, mustard, on a baguette. maybe even some chopped up sundried tomatoes for sweetness (but not too many).
  13. behold.
  14. they need a website. it's ridiculous for a restaurant in the NY metro area to not have web presence in 2003. ok, i feel better now.
  15. sounds great. i'll bring a lot of singles. who's we got? rock pete paul/dee? me ?
  16. it doesn't get much better than shark week.
  17. does this mean the guys from green day were eating in the front room again?? not them, but it certainly had a lot of artist/musican types. which can often, actually, be annoying. but the crowd overall was pleasant and cool. not nasty and bitter and too-cool-for-school.

    fine vine for under $10

they used to be something like 6.76 at total wines. that's why i say that i hope it's not a sign that they're catching on, as the prices will surely go up. i suppose it doesn't help that i buy a case of the stuff every time i drive by.
  19. in the interest of completeness, some discussion on Clark's Thailand here. i've stopped here for lunch probably 8 times. every time they've been closed.

    fine vine for under $10

Currently $8.50 at Total Wines. i hope that's not a sign that they're finally catching on.

    Fresh Oregano

oregano is the only thing doing well in my garden. a big freakin bush already. basil is limping along, mint is growing out of the lawn (i mean, how much mint does a guy really need), rosemary is doing ok, but i know i could rip through the whole bush in a weekend. so i got to thinkin: what am i going to do with fresh oregano? every application i can think of calls for dried oregano. short of drying it, what can i do with this bush?

    fine vine for under $10

my bad. i thought it was red and white. ok then, i'll throw in beaucastel CdR then, which comes in just over 10 i think. edit: wrong. i get it for 18 or 19, which clearly isn't 10.

while some CdR's are dismal (all due respect Lissome, as i do love rhone and *want* to find some good, young, inexpensive CdR's), most new zealand SB's are pretty decent. i'm surprised no one mentioned any yet.
