  1. All types, Tommy. I must say I'm partial to quiet places. I like creative cooking. such as? this is getting more and more comical by the minute.
  2. nutley res, what other restaurants do you like? i don't think many of us have been to Petite Cafe, and i'd be more inclined to visit if i had a better feel for what type of places you generally like.
  3. so what are the dates now? can we get people to fill in the blanks if they're available?: sat 31: sun 1: sat 7: sun 8:
  4. to add more potato to the oil, Pommes Frites was featured today on a Food TV program (the one with that big tall guy Gordon). the owner stated that they are fried twice, the second time at a higher temp.

    ACK!

    Perfect rice

my method is similar to nick's. i rinse thoroughly. i put the rice in a sauce pan and cover with cold water and then an additional 1/4-1/2 inch of water above that. high heat to a boil uncovered until the water is the level of the rice, lower all the way, cover, and finish. it's almost fool-proof. edit: ok, once again i see that i've already said this on this thread. this time, it was 1.5 years ago. i suppose it's now clear that i haven't changed my approach in some time.
  7. matt, if you could shed *any* light on the IC voice-over issue, i'd be more than very pleased. as discussed by some elsewhere on egullet, some of us think it's absolutely brilliant. and i, for one, have no idea how it could have possibly been done. any comments would make my day.
  8. They are faucets for filling pots so that you don't have to struggle back and forth between sink and stove. i've never seen it in a kitchen in someone's home. nice.
  9. wow. that looks really nice. what are the things behind the stove top? those faucet looking thingies.
  10. Developed? so much for warm welcomes!
  11. fitz, i had no idea the great notch even had food! i was supposed to meet some friends there the other night for drinks in fact (although i bailed), and i suppose i would have found out then. i would have been quite *suspicious* if i saw food come out of there, but maybe, since i'm on a pizza mission, it would have caught my eye. good call. i'll have to go back.
  12. we chose $120 omakase. one could get out for much less money. it was a nice experience, however, and i look forward to returning.
  13. i wanna go.
  14. Probably the Heartland to make some amends. *you* did it, not me.
  15. it's not tuesday. but where should i go for dinner?
  16. welcome matthew!
  17. is kpurvis related to jonathan purvis by any chance? long shot, of course, and nothing at all to do with this thread.
  18. finally made it to The Town Pub in Bloomfield. this place is famous for thin crust pizza. the front room (where the bar is) is a smoky mess. and this is coming from someone who occasionally smokes. i'd recommend sitting in the back room if smoke bothers you. they don't have artichokes. i hate when places don't have artichokes. but they do offer the standard toppings. the pie is similar to kinchley's in that it's a thing crust, and it also has similar flavor. however, i'd rank kinchley's above the Town Pub. can't quite put my finger on why. i do recall that the crust was pretty mushy and soggy by the time i got into the second slice. this might be due to the topping of fresh tomato, but i'm not convinced of that. any thoughts on this place? i'll probably return, as it's convenient for me. but i'll sit in the non-smoking room.
  19. i had the Messina Hoff cab ("barrel reserve" 2001) tonite. a pleasant bottle. not too tannic. nice fruit in the nose and on the palate, although i won't pretend that i could parse out strawberry/gooseberry/blueberry. just "fruit", ya know? all in all, more pleasant than most california cabs at the same price point (i think it was about 12 or 15). good for them. the next time i get to texas, i'll be sure to buy more.

    Italian

actually, i was talking nonsense. the person who started this thread hates paramus. pm me and i'll explain it.
  21. what a minute. am i to understand you're not getting paid for your services?
  22. putting the lemongrass in a spice grinder does the trick as well. you can't feel the fiber in the final product, but i'm sure it's good for your innards.

    Joler in NYC

that read just fine. you hit some good spots, and it sounds like you had a great time. good for you. one note, that may or may not be important to people reading along: the Tasting Room's wine list is strictly american, rather than californian.
  25. sorry my friend. i was being inappropriately tongue-in-cheek. i'll try to think a little more before hitting "add reply". i'd reword it, but i've been quoted 3 times already!
