  1. it's hard to tell how much food it will be. however, taking into account the price, it *has* to be enough. i rarely pay more than 20/25 per head there, and that's with larger groups. so, using price as a barometer, i'm guessing i'll stop eating by the 10th course.
  2. how does the "top ten" work again? i find it hard to believe that amanda's gets as much traffic as baumgart's. i also find it hard to believe that baumgart's gets any traffic at all. but, sheep will be sheep.
  3. Naysayers opine, "eff shakers."
  4. does the book have the same copy as it has for the past few years? that thing changes very little.
  5. Local Man Finds Herb in Steak Sandwich RIVER EDGE, NJ - After taking in what was perhaps his 1000th cheesesteak at local eatery Fink’s Funky Chicken and Ribs, Bergen county resident Tommy noticed something special about his sandwich. “What is that, a pine needle?” he asked himself. Upon further investigation, he determined that it must be rosemary. “Is it part of the onions and peppers?” he wondered aloud in a muffled voice. When owner David “Fink” Finkelstein asked how is cheesesteak was, Tommy gave his canned answer of “good as always”, not wanting to ask about the mystery herb for fear of sounding like a tourist. Tommy was reported to have muttered aloud in the car on the way home “I always thought those cheesesteaks were special, but rosemary? Who knew”? Foodie friends sighed “yeah, and…?” when hearing about the discovery.
  6. hang a left. actually, get yourself on 9 south (tonnelle ave). just a few minutes from the GWB, and from china 46 as well.
  7. i'm considering bringing a rose from rhone. had one the other day at china 46, and it paired well. plus, no one will want my pink wine, so i can have it all to myself.
  8. i think Rock Paper Scissors is the way to go on this one.

  10. yeah, those things and parking lots too.
  11. don't make me arm wrestle you.
  12. i generally think posting private correspondence is in poor form. however, this is pretty important: rachel has told me over PM that she'll give me her soup dumpling.
  13. welcome. from their website, “From date of purchase, All-Clad guarantees to repair or replace any item found defective in material, construction or workmanship under normal use and following care instructions. This excludes damage from misuse or abuse. Minor imperfections and slight color variations are normal.” i have a 12" all clad nonstick pan. it comes in handy for certain applications. i've never had a problem with it.
  14. LOL! it's horrible!
  15. there's one in rahway? where have i been. i hope this new store is kept up a bit better than the JC store.
  16. thanks, jaymes.
  17. that's pretty good news.
  18. Bars are for drinking, restaurants are for eating. If you get people eating at the bar there's something wrong with the balance. Give it a miss. The short menu is a much better guide. A daily menu is even better. eating at the bar is standard in many of NYC's top restaurants. if anything, it shows that the demand for the place exceeds its seating capacity.
  19. from rachel's post a few days ago: Yeah, mapquest doesn't seem to know where China 46 is located. Officially, their address is 88 Rt 46 West, Ridgefield, NJ. It is just west of the Grand Avenue exit on 46. Directions From the south: Take the NJ Tpke towards the GWB, after exit 18W, bare right at the 46 E/W division and get onto 46 East. You will see a movie theatre sign and then China 46 on your left (the opposite side of the highway), make a U-turn at the Grand Avenue exit and stay to the right. The second driveway (very quick succession) is China 46. It is in front of a Days Inn that is still being renovated. If you are coming from NYC, take the GWB to 46 West. China 46 is immediately after the Grand Ave exit.
  20. just talking about this place makes me want to go.

i often mix almost equal parts of worchestshirieehrrereire and low sodium soy, and a lot of cracked black pepper.
  23. let's skip the seaweed shrimp. i think the salt and pepper shrimp make much more of a statement.
  24. in the interest of remaining on topic, i'll suggest that the rock's choice of drinks, and his method of drinking them, was quite impressive last night.
  25. one sure-fired way to end up at a horrible restaurant is to ask a complete stranger.
