  1. don't forget about the orange things. my veal chop was quite nice. nicely marked from the grill. the brandy peppercorn sauce wasn't overly sweet, as they sometimes are. it did seem assertively salty, but it was too my liking. the spaetzle seemed, by comparison, a bit bland. the difference in salt levels, i think, was too great. spaetzle was lost on the plate, flavorwise. while i appreciate nice big glasses, i'm not a fan of those glasses that they brought out. i don't know what they're called, but they have a large flanged rim. the wine has a tendency to "rush" towards your mouth when you drink from those things. however, they were delightfully large, and made smelling, swirling, and enjoying the wines a pleasure. the bill, i think was 500 and not 600. service was very very good. professional, but relaxed.
  2. i highly recommend NobHill and Lotus of Siam, each being neon-free. edit: i see that b*stard bigbear has just changed my avatar to a neon sign. nicely done.
  3. i'm confused as to how mediocre food and waits could ever be a "best option."
  4. avoid neon signs.
  5. have you ever had a *good* meal there?
  6. yeah, i do it at home.
  7. was that before or after you struggled for 15 minutes trying to divide 500 by 5.
  8. I guess you're right...I'm not too familiar with the place, but from the comments from some of these posts, there was so many mentions of crowds and people milling around, I thought they waited at the restaurant itself. I'm going to stick with making reservtions, myself. i thought i read that they're not allowed to leave the restaurant? and some of them aren't in malls to begin with.
  9. it boggles the mind. think of all the posting a guy like me could do in those 3 hours. i have somewhat of an unwritten rule: i don't wait in line for dinner.
  10. i think the whole evening could be best summed up with the words "eff shakers". the rock wasn't having any of it.
  11. as they all slowly crawl out of bed...

  13. all of those places have lines. olive garden, outback, et al. the appeal, i suppose, is consistency. of course, they're all horribly mediocre, but most of america doesn't like surprises.
  14. and bribe someone for a table! i love it.
  15. i do believe these were an option. although, they only get soft shells when they can and when they're good. i went last week, and they didn't have them. although, i can totally recommend the salt and pepper shrimp. mmmmmm.
  16. and the pendants shall inherit the earth.
  17. "The Rock" thread merged in at this point please discuss
  18. welcome. i'm not sure how many people who read/post on egullet actually go the the cheesecake factory though. sad, but true. it's just not worth the time/money, regardless of positive/negative posts about it.
  19. "from the island"? you mean like born and raised in manhattan? Yes. well i think we need to revisit the definition of "new yorker" or "from new york." there are very few, relatively people born and raised on the island who are still there in the adult years. clearly.
