  1. paul, the "dining" room is certainly a dark and dank place to be in the daytime. i haven't been to the dining room during the day since my college days. and i always remember walking in from the sunlight and basically seeing nothing at all for the first 3 minutes, as it's so dark. and once your eyes get acclimated, you head to the head, and blinding sunlight shines through those fake ice block windows in there. always a blast, actually. these days, as i'm very old and chubby, i just go to the stand out front, and enjoy the lovely view of the parking lot as i eat my rippers. and sometimes i'll just sit in the car, and wonder what it was like 60 years ago to be doing the same. actually, the AC wasn't working the last time i was there, and there were about 10 people sitting in their cars.
  2. egullet has been acting up. no big deal.
  3. this from someone who said "Rocco had a mediocre reputation among serious, talented chefs to begin with in New York. Before the show, he was seen as a pretty boy with sufficient talent to open restaurants, but overall, not a contender" which is it? you seem to be playing both sides.
  4. or perhaps the reviewer has been paying a bit too much attention to the television.
  5. i think we figured that if everyone who is bringing a cooler would load up with ice, we'll be ok. and those who aren't planning on bringing a cooler, well maybe then can and bring some ice in it. i think that should get us through the day. i hope.

    Pizza Stones

i usually just scrape the black bits off when it's hot with a rubber spatula. or when it's cold for that matter. the stains and whatnot don't seem to produce any smoke for me.
  7. and others, of course, think his work at UP has been brilliant.
  8. as an italian-american, i find the concept offensive. just like how i don't like the Sopranos because they make me and my family out as the uncouth buffoons that we really are.
  9. "shudder"? i dunno jason. seems like rocco is straight-foward, self-aware, and honest about himself and the restaurant. which is more than i can say for some.
  10. looking forward to it!
  11. absolutely. i used to use "balsamic" quite a bit, and then i got sick of it. i think i got sick of it because it was actually sugary-crap from Kings supermarket. recently, a friend brought back a bottle from italy (which, of course, is probably still pretty low-end), and i've sought out the quality products. it has made a world of difference, and i'm using a lot more of it. and, a lot less of it when i do use it.
  12. gideon, welcome to egullet. i have a question, and forgive me for not visiting your website to find the answer if it's there (although i've poked around it). the "fall" heard 'round the world: it seemed like there were 2 cameras at strange angles, with great lighting and all, able to catch you when your face was half-way to the floor. did they ask you to re-enact that slip? if not, thems be some good camera guys.
  13. so we can count that as just one more piece of misinformation fueling this mess. thought so. I'm not sure it really matters whose thigh he was goosing, Tommy (though it might well have mattered to the critic and/or to the Anonymous Blonde ). well then perhaps you shouldn't have suggested that he was rubbing a critic's thigh. i've "goosed" many women in my day, as have many others. i don't expect to be sent to hell for it. In the first place, it was an honest mistake on my part. As others here have noted, the segment involving said goosing was intercut with others involving Rocco's schmoozing the critic; I was apparently confused as to just whose thigh was getting massaged. In the second place, back off. I'm not suggesting that Rocco be "sent to hell" for goosing some woman's thigh, whether or not she is a critic. And I have no desire to send you or anyone else to hell for similar behavior. At the same time, yeah, I am seriously repulsed by someone whose opinion of his own sexual appeal is such that he not only feels entitled to grope strange women in public, but -- and this, to me, is the important bit -- apparently believes that this behavior is pleasing and ingratiating, the ditigal equivalent of comping the table to a round of drinks. i'm only suggesting that people should check their facts before making such claims. if that sounds unreasonable, then expect me to call you out. that's just the way i am, as i'm such a nice guy and all. first of all.
  14. that's a great idea rachel. iced tea, even made with lipton, with some mint and sugar or mango juice, is always a welcome addition to any daytime get-together. so, how about the water issue? seems that we won't need a ton of bottled water, but rather some jugs to siphon it from the farm?
  15. thanks everyone. yes, it's a jury duty thing. so it's lunch. and, as usual, rail paul knows a lot about everything.
  16. i'm not even sure where it is, and i don't know paterson at all. however, a friend needs a rec. thoughts?

    Rocco's

Do you mean the one that sued so Rocco's would change it's name? i suppose.

    Rocco's

abbey, i'm guessing the poster means the *other* rocco's.
  20. i heard they got caught with a leaky faucet. :shudder:

  22. did he? or is that just your interpretation based on the frenzy of images and sounds that they put on tv.
  23. how do you know this to be a "truth"? it's pretty clear that it's easy to show people in whatever light you want when you have hundreds of hours of tape of them.
