  1. Yeah, but it seems kind of silly for a bunch of New Yorkers to trek down to Philladelphia to eat at the local outpost of a New York restaurant. I think Pietro's (local outpost of NY's Patsy's) makes excellant pizza, but I wouldn't recommend it to visiting NYers. you're absolutely right. i glanced through the thread and thought it was going to be for philly people as well. although i've eaten at Nobu outside of NYC. but that's a bit different i suppose.
  2. the lines for these things are so long, tailgating wouldn't be totally inappropriate.
  3. I would disqualify any chain restaurants. you'd be missing out.
  4. Yes. Mario started out in life as a pizza guy in NJ. Seriously. most notably at Stuff Yer Face in New Brunswick. but c'mon, he didn't like that chicken with BBQ sauce pizza. no way.
  5. does anyone think that he really liked some of that pizza?
  6. while watching, it occurred to me that some of those sounds were added post-production.
  7. They serve booze in bookstores? i'm assuming it's BYO.
  8. book signing at Book Ends in ridgewood. info here. i'm tempted to go, although i've never done anything like that in my life. although i walked past the guy who wrote Jaws once at a bookstore.
  9. stranger yet is someone from the UK suggesting how to make a sandwich.

  12. anyone see this? it was interesting enough. no sidekick, and less shtick. it seems that this particular formula is wearing thin, however.
  13. yeah dave, it's south of montclair, but still right off of bloomfield ave. you'll find yourself in the middle of bloomfield (which clearly looks like a "down-town"). as elyse suggests, it's a right off of bloomfield and one block to the station parking lot. i think you take a right on Glenwood ave, which is right past washington st, assuming you're heading south on bloomfield. if this map works, you'll want to be btwn washington and glenwood, just west of bloomfield.

bayona continues to get good ratings from egulleters. the two meals i've had there over the past 4 years have been good to very good.
  15. but you'll be in new york at a pub having a 10 oz hamburger. who's jealous now?

  18. "i don't get xxxx." "you're wrong, xxxx is good." "no, no, you just don't understand xxxx, therefore, you are wrong."
  19. kim, i don't know much about italian wines. even less than i know about wine in general. the selection isn't huge, but seems well selected. and, if you can get a hold of pasquale, the guy who's usually working that section, he can help navigate the section, if that's of interest to you.

terrel, i can assure you that the S&W burger is highly regarded and will most likely be enjoyed by most of us. as far as the cost of it goes, i've found that the burger and a glass of 12 dollar wine still make for quite an inexpensive meal.
  21. Jerry's sauce, from jerry's gourmet in Englewood, NJ, is quite good. and at 6 bucks, it's not too expensive (as opposed to Rao's at 9 bucks). i have to assume this stuff isn't available much outside of their store, which is a shame. i think they're missing an opportunity there.
  22. wow, this place is fantastic. i've spent a good amount of time here over the last few weeks. the wines are reasonably priced, and the one fellow with whom i keep talking seems to know a lot about italian wines, and he enjoys talking about them. i think it's my new favorite place in the world. and their jarred sauce is really good as well.
