  1. so, if i'm driving from florence to rome, would it be reasonable to stop in Siena on the way? these maps i have make everything look extremely close.
  2. well doc, we're adding a night to florence by losing siena, and we're also cutting out another hotel stay and another "move". hopefully i'm making the right decision?
  3. we're considering taking out Siena. all in favor? so it would be: overnight in milan. 9 am train to venice. 3 nights in venice. train to bologna for 1 night. drive to florence for 4 nights. drive to rome (and lose the car right away) for 4 nights.

Tommy, I shall share that information with you soon enough. Maybe you can come visit ut... and if you give me ample notice, I may make you some special dishes, only for your table. I am sure Diwan and we can exist together. Certainly our little restaurant does not give too much to other Indian restaurants to worry about. It is small, and hence a place where Hemant and I can touch each dish with our hands. i'm sure diwan will continue to be an incredible restaurant. however, i just know from my heart that this new restaurant won't be one to miss.

i'll only suggest jackson hole because mr. lobel did. other than that, i think it's for shit. but i'll have to revisit it. and as far as chumley's is concerned, you're showing your age katie...the entrance through the courtyard has been closed for some years now. (although the door is still not marked, but let's face it, everyone knows where it is).
  7. well, really really low-mid level might be that place in hackensack (i'm blanking on the name right now, but it's pretty famous). i have to admit, it's usually filled with blue-hairs, but i enjoyed their breakfast/brunch buffet one sunday. but i suppose you have to be in the mood for that type of thing. a nice spread, actually, but standard stuff.
  8. i wasn't that excited with it, although for what it was, i thought it was decent enough. i haven't been back, and this is probably a year later. i guess i just don't like that type of food. the place seems to do pretty well though, which is a good sign.

I thought that was taken off the menu? i hadn't heard that. i hope not. i think it's a great lunch.
  10. what level of food are you looking for?

suvir, could you provide some info on the wine list? specifically, what might be paired with the tasting menus? congrats. this is good news. bad news for diwan, though.

i wouldn't categorize maxwell's as a gay restaurant/bar, or even any more gay friendly than a lot of places in hoboken. i suppose others on any list might be suspect as well, and a phone call would be in order.

feathers in hackensack/river edge. (bar) aren't there websites out there that list this stuff? i'd imagine there are some good internet resources out there.
  16. i stumbled into the same place once and sat there for about 20 minutes before my friend convinced me that there was a reason there were no women in the place...and a reason that a huge flag was flying behing the bar. neat little place, though. class shot and beer joint.

  18. in a cruel twist of fate, that horrible chinese place survived. that's not to say i wanted it to burn, but if i had to choose 3 places to go, Little Saigon wouldn't be one of them. it looks like the 2 stores to the left of LS are gone. and from the report on Ch12, you can see right through LS.
  19. hollywood, i think the plan is to get to rome via car, and dump it there. however, that does imply that i'll have to drive in rome. i'd almost rather lose it before then, but i'm assuming there's some benefit to making the trip from tuscany to rome via car.

i don't think we're doing it all in one meal mikey. at least i don't *think* we are.
  21. just to keep this current, Little Saigon in Nutley burned down this morning.
  22. yup. it's a big fucking hole. this is horrible.

that's so cool! i can't believe he kept it under his hat all of this time. unless he didn't and i just missed it.
  24. just because i haven't responded doesn't mean i'm not reading and thankful. we're trying to figure out if bologna is worth a trip. i'm going to paste the itinerary from the travel agent here. any comments would be appreciated. :) Overnight in Milan then take 9 am train to Venice, arriving 11:35 for 3 nts at Hotel xxxx at xxx per nt incl bfast, tax and svce. Take train to Bologna, 2 hrs, overnight at xxx at xxxx with tax, service, bfast. Pick up car and then go on to Siena for 1 nt. This would allow visit to San Gimigiano as well. In Siena, xxx is EUR xxxx with tax, svce, bfast and then drive to Florence. Both the xxx and the xxxx are around xxxx with tax, svce bfast. I would suggest 3 nts and that would allow a day trip to Pisa. Keep the car and on to Rome for 4 nts at the end. In Rome I would suggest the xxx at xxxx with tax, svce and bfast, good location. Closer to the Spanish Steps runs in the area of 370-450EUR. If you took a car in either Venice or Bologna for 6 days it would be $636 for an automatic or $420 for a manual.
  25. that would suck. here's a link.
