  1. i think there's a thread on this somewhere. or at the very least it has come up, as i remember venting about it on several occasions. a bathroom attendant is a strike against a restaurant or bar in my opinion, and one of the factors i consider when deciding to return.
  2. i'm good for a liter over the course of a meal. of course, i need a glass of water afterwards as i'm so thirsty from the sodium.
  3. that doesn't bother me really. what bothers me is people who put salt on their food before tasting it and then saying "this is too salty". but, i've never ever seen that happen.
  4. believe me when i say you were on my mind for the better part of the trip.
  5. not so fast there captain.

    Bouley

were you hungry soon after? i generally don't mind smallish portions, regardless of price, as long as i'm not stopping for a slice of pizza afterwards.

    Butternut Squash Soup

    ooo. good idea.
  9. well jason, you said "nothing about that sandwich says diet to me." you can understand that i might take this as your (educated) opinion of the actual sandwich, rather than the marketing campaign (which may or may not have completed its life-cycle yet). and the sodium still doesn't matter.
  10. on what do you base that comment? the "numbers" suggest diet to me. I'm not going by the numbers. If they wanted to state "it only has 350 calories" and "Its a great low fat choice for people on the go" they would have done so in the commercial and positioned it in all its literature at the stores as a low-fat sandwich. I don't recall hearing anything like that in the Bayless, Ray or Shaq commercials. Not everyone is going to be checking the BK web site for this kind of information. By the way, the sucker still has 1200mg of sodium. well then what are you going by? are you saying that nothing about the marketing says diet to you? if that's the case, i suppose that's fair. sodium and dieting have little to do with each other. at least, that's a popular opinion shared by professionals and me, and discussed way back when on this thread.

    Butternut Squash Soup

    chiffonade of basil.
  13. oddly enough, a good percentage of the carts that i pull out of the cart conga line have 1 or 2 wheels locked up already.
  14. A Cook's Tour, Season III: Episode IV. "Return to Chiang Mai" ANNOUNCER/NARRATOR "What Mr. Bourdain DOESN'T know is that we've changed his regular Thai street satay with grilled rats on a stick!" BOURDAIN: Mmmm. Yummy. Deep fried goodness. Now all I need is a bottle Sriracha sauce, a carton Marlboros and a six pack of Singha! I'm in heaven! i urge everyone to click on the images in that link to enlarge them.
  15. we need an eGCI course. this is interesting. some of this sounds good. mmmm. thai food. a nice bubbly wine would go nicely with this.
  16. i had a double whopper "off the broiler" today. i have to say it was in fact much better than usual. i reminded me of what i remember them tasting like years ago. as fat guy reported, the toppings were cool and crisp, and the flavors were distinct. definitely the way to go, if you're going that way to begin with. the ordering didn't pose a problem. i asked the kid if many people ordered it that way, and he said "yeah, sometimes."

    Butternut Squash Soup

a drizzle of really good evoo. a puree of roasted red peppers (place a few drops in the soup for color and a bit of flavor).
  18. how did i miss this. please don't post anything important while i'm away from egullet ever again. thank you.
  19. yes seth. with hollywood posting quotes from pop songs, it does seem to be similar. however, the direction of this thread will hopefully be decidedly more culinary...if we can just keep hollywood focused.
  20. someone just rang my doorbell, and then i heard a knock on a window. i was tempted to try peanut butter, but decided my 6 inch all-clad skillet might work better. i'll report back on the outcome. it should be painless and quick.

    Dinner! 2003

an omelette with leftover duck confit and a drizzle of truffle oil (the cheap kind).
  22. you gots?
  23. rather than "how much was it worth", perhaps the question is "how much did it cost to keep open." the guy probably couldn't afford it anymore. that's obviously just one possibility.
  24. most were 4 tops. no big communal tables that i saw. you're right thought. if the odds were increased, it would have been better. some of the places had tables tighter than even those in NYC that are very close. in most situations, we had nice conversation with the people next to us. still, even though there were only a few inches btwn those tables, it's nice to have that "barrier". at the very least, there was generally no fear of touching the person. not so in this case.
