  1. Has anyone been reading tommy's Thoughs on a trip to Italy? that was Microsoft Word's fault. not capitalizing is just a little bit that i do to set myself apart from the rest here in cyberspace (although i'm clearly not the only one doing this). the fact that it annoys, offends, or bothers some is a bonus.
  2. a friend of mine recently spoke with the owner. from what i hear, he wants to re-open ASAP. i also hear that he's running into some snags with the building owner, but that's second-hand info. cross your fingers.
  3. duh. everyone knows that *two spaces* go after a period. jeesh. now what were you saying? i was too busy feeling superior and better of myself, as i was putting you down, to pay attention to your point. smugly, tommy
  4. what are those?
  5. Bilrus (and others), i always recommend stopping in at Prager Ports in Napa for a fun time and a chance to taste 6 or 7 ports. your host will most likely be the owner and portmaker, jim prager, who is about as nice as, and resembles, santa claus. just don't touch the 50 year old cobwebs on his kitchen window, as mrs. tommy tried to do. mr. prager doesn't take too kindly to that.
  6. Is "sammich" a Southern U.S. thing then? prolly not. i use it sometimes (but more often "sammy"). and i have friends from Boston who use it.

    Grilled Cheese

If you are talking the American in the blue (?) box like the Velvetta, I am with you. nah. just regular ol' Land o Lakes is crappy enough.
  8. "rules" like that are just plain silly and best ignored. the dining experience is just that: an experience. appreciate it on your terms, and progress at your own pace, in your own way. you're cheating yourself otherwise.
  9. that's a good approach. i try (and yes, sometimes fail), to only type things that i'd say to someone's face, or if i knew they were reading. it's quite easy to refer to someone as "fat", for example, and really hurt their feelings. anonymous or not. i suppose the line is different for all of us though.
  10. another thread to brow-beat and insult. love it.

    FASCINO

that is *very* good to hear. they've put some thought into this place. that's refreshing.
  13. just like people, there are good cops, and there are very very bad cops. i know a few of both. it's unforunate for you guys, as you probably get stares and hated because of the bad ones, and not the good ones. but anyway, her statement sounds more like one of publicity generation to me, assuming, of course, that cops do in fact get served. she seems like she's trying to push buttons, and clearly it's working.

  19. i've enjoyed the tasting menu at the Brass Rail, in hoboken. they don't offer it every night, though. and they offer wine pairings as well. thread (well, just a post from me)here.

    FASCINO

i suppose i need to get down there. i love tasting menus. but when a restaurant is BYO (which i love), it makes it much harder on me, as i have to try to figure out how to pair 5 or 6 dishes. that could mean bringing 5 or 6 bottles.
  21. holly might be able to shed some light.
  22. Zarole in Ridgewood. a post by me here. actually, this can be a great thread. i'm a sucker for tasting menus. that's exactly how i like to eat. aozora, in montclair, has omakase.

    TASTING NOTES

but sure to share your notes. no less that 1 page, double-spaced. 12 point font. use of thesaurus and abstruse literary and architectural references optional.
  24. I thought it was just me who thought that! HAH! it's enormous. luckily for her, she's hot. people like me aren't that lucky.
  25. well that's the "resume" that people are concerned with, no?
