  1. Oh my that booize bottle - one would feel tipsy before the first sip.
  2. Depending on your age, I think there is a nostalgia element. I've heard people say things like "of course I have to serve our family recipe X in the X style/color bowl just as my mother did"
  3. And they had those special glass serving vessels dedicated to celery. I think only the blanched (palse white/yellow) were considered elegant.
  4. For eating or for science experiment purposes?
  5. Thanks for the link. I forced a listen - the man banter was grating - but what I got was a sense that it was not so much "Kitchen Confidential" do not eat fish on Monday - as backstory labor issues. I'll probably read it. ETA: it brought to mind @chardgirl's husband's piece in a book about agricuture in which he described in amusng and terrifying detail the difficulty of getting broccoli to market. Police, mobsters and toll booth characters were involved. Don't remember name of book. I also once had a client in the L.A. wholesale produce market . The stories!
  6. Reminds me of a popular Rachel Ray recipe for a pasta, pumpkin, sage, sausage recipe often refernced. I have not watched her (too frenetic) but the linked recipe is a simple version that I think Kim Severson mentioned when she did a piece on RR. Uses puree and store bought Italian sausage. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/pasta-with-pumpkin-and-sausage-recipe-1939614

You are really selling me on the flavor amd texture combos of Grist and Ruffage
  8. I saw the predictions. I've never owned any or been to a Tupperware party. I laughed when my cabinetmaker/designer said "and this is convenemtly where the Tupperware storage will go". Dude! I realize it was a major sales party independent income thing for women like Mary Kay Cosmetics. No tears here.

I am pleased to say that I was abe to re-purpose my fiasco country pork ribs into a delighful "curry". Cut the lean meat away from the slabs of dense fat, small chunks. Sauced with onion, serrano chile, salsa verde, and hot mustard. Finished with tons of rough chopped cilantro and yogurt. Served with CalRose rice and leftover coleslaw. 2 happy meals of those leftovers. Felt good to not be left with the lingering "ick what was I thinking" fom Easter.

Happens ften with not salty but very acidic stuff like a quick pickleesp with certain lids - esp recycled Bonne Maman marmalade. No harm. Doesn't affect it. I usually double a small square of plastic wrap across top of jar and then screw on lid - but I've been overly frustrated with the wrap not coming off roll properly and having to pitch the thne well before empty. (email complaints to mnufacturer with photos - not even a blasted coupon in response) - whole other topic.
  12. Inner workings of a marriage - mystery. But even as a person not reading reviews I knew who she was , A force. I appreciated reading the obits because I did not realize the breadth of her impact. I think I "accidentally" clicked on a NYT promo so I saw it right away.

Thanks for that memory. I had my son go out and cut some rosemary for me today before you posted - hard for me to reach. Just to put in a little vase. I told him that rosemary was pinned to men's lapels as they walked into a funeral mass to signify rememberance. Back at the immigrant German church. And then we talked abut Eric the man we lost to a fatal crash in October. So you bringing up Steven's funny story - well - special. For culinary purposes I use it sparingly - sprigs maybe with roasted potatoes or tomatoe.
  14. Do you mean the actual physical size of the sardine or the idustry? If the former - is itbecause they are not letting them get to size before harvesting or environmental factors? Love seeing your enthusiam for them. My area was the heart of the tuna canning industry back in the day and I grew up wth the families of the fisermen. Thanks.

So epic fail. My son kindly said "but the potatoes, carrots and slaw were good". I opened the meat pack and yes very pink nice meat for about an inch or so, then poorly cut massive bone and inches of fat. Not integrated so meat was sorta dry, rest trash. I'll cut off the decent meat on leftovers and reheat with salsa verde to tuck into tacos wth the slaw tomorrow. Live and learn. Should have examined yesterday amd pivoted to shrimp curry.

Very nice spread. I had to laugh at the wine as in the U.S. back in the day Boone's Farm strawberry was the wine of choice for underage drinkers. https://winechateau.com/products/boones-farm-strawberry-hill-1?variant=31883505205353

You don't know what you don't know. Maybe they should consider a simple handout with suggested items or an emai, with links to Seder friendy dishes and examples of typical Seder meals - keeping it simple. You say no pork and some jump to chicken as the auto...

Thanks for the link. My dad is Croatian born near Zagreb but I've not heard of the tradition. He is 100 and does not do well on phone so I'll ask him when next I see him.

Son on his way over and I have done ERO prep. I did find the roasting pan in garage (a miracle) Totally winging it with the country porlk ribs. Mostly stuck in envy of the meal sister cooked - lamb shoulder and shanks. And they are headed to a big Italian Easter Monday feast (a holiday in OZ)

Are those pretty eggs destined for deviled eggs or? Always fun when the dye bleeds through a bit so you get coorful mottled whites when peeled. We came to prefer the food coloring that comes in little teardrop shaped plastic bottles. Vivid colors = smiles by kids.

I wouldn't. Moldy citrus reeks tome, Feel like it would contaminate the juice., esp if inside.
  23. I think product developers for certain markets have to have a sense of whimsy and humor., The Mattel folks I knew relished those OOPS product testing moments.
  24. Like when you find out that the golden crust that the kids fought over from grandma's rice pot has a name - "tahdig" and there is a method and cooking cultiure around it
  25. My first thought upon seeing the image was a flash to Lucy's issue https://www.google.com/search?q=lucy+epispde+bread&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS950US950&oq=lucy+epispde+bread&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30j0i8i13i30.8547j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:75838f56,vid:RA3hc4P3qe8
