A short travel blog of Greece: Pelion, Meteora, and Athens

Wow. I need coffee just from the images. On the squash my mind went first to something like this https://www.mexicoinmykitchen.com/calabaza-en-tacha-candied-pumpkin/ where it is simmered with piloncillo and cassia sticks but that it too deep a flavor from your description. I did use a pattypan from my garden once in a strudel. It was just on the verge if getting hard. Had a hint of watermelon. Interesting. -
Thanks for that. So heartening to see the farmers sharing knowledge and experience outside the BigAgra box. A friend here still has family farmland ib Indiana. H has managed to get it into a land trust so it remains un-used and can't be sold. He has vivid memories of the fertilizer train cars rattling through town when he has visited. He is a Dr. not farmer so he thought saw if best left alone than mangled. , David Mas Masumoto's Epitaph for a Peach (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) is also a great farmer read.

oh the reproductive tenacity of seeds. Live & learn.

Nice color and "crust" on everything. I'm in.

Yup the plant pathology people are seeing that happen. Like the Corona virus mutating quickly. Enjoy your one apple! Is it because critters eat the others or is it jut an eccentric tree?

I'll second beautiful! And your greens look great too. Hope Shadow does not try to stick a hoof through the wire in a break-in attempt. Had a horse do that. Luckily her boyfriend stayed with her and kept her calm until we noticed.

When I ask someone where they are from, and the response is "Mexico", I say that is a big country with lots of regions. They perk up and are happy to wax poetic about their regional specialties.

Clever boy, frugal you. I had a co-worker who decided to eat healthy and bring his lunch in those Glad storage containers. Young guy. He stuck it in the microwave without popping the lid. We bout died laughing watching him struggle to get the suctioned lid off. My fiasco yesterday was going 3 rooms away while simmering leftover Costco chicken bones for simple stock. Not my bones but stepmom was gonna throw them out. I used minimal water and set on super low flame. Started to smell wonderful. Then oops - scorched stench. To make it worse I added water and gave it a taste. The bitterness put me off my feed for the evening.

Beautiful vistas, I can almost smell the bagels - i'd like the sunflower studded one. Oh and I have those same sunflower lights. -
Those potatoes have hella color. Crispy outsides?

Oh the 90 year old stepmother brought home a 65 pack of hot dogs from Costco before July 4th because "on sale". Nobody but her occasionally eat them in this household - then complained about lack of freezer space.

And a strong marriage cemented by mutual garlic love in part? Veal shank looks wonderful.

So is mace, its lacy seed covering also used?

Oh gawd that dry lean tasteless crud the Pork Council marketed!

Thanks. My mind was just set in the ride And of course I'd blanked that it is in New Orleans Square. And then off to the Haunted Mansion...Ahh- you setoff memories.

Not giggling at your dish but at the provenance. Louisiana? As a child of Southern California and thus well acquainted with Pirates of the Carib I associate it with boozing pirates Assuming it was an enjoyable dish. Any interesting twists from a "standard" hamburger casserole? My reference point would be Hamburger Helper which I had a few times as a kid.

This Michigan State Extension is a nice little summary though 10 years old. . As farmers educate themselves on improving their soil versus fertilizer inundation there is progress. https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/organic_weed_control_in_field_crops And as farming occurs within the larger ecosystem this is a snippet about the bigger picture https://www.newyorker.com/news/campaign-chronicles/how-an-iowa-farmer-used-the-campaign-stop-economy-to-push-climate-action-on-2020-democrats

Agronomists all over the world have been studying this phenomenon and working on breeding programs for many years. Plants, insects etc are way more adaptive than us mere humans. Seed control by Big Agra is a serious issue. But food scarcity is global and farmers become the indentured servants of the seed companies in order to survive. Monsanto started brainwashing us as kids with the Monsanto exhibit at Disneyland, and oh those Beyer ads with the baby aspirin bringing relief by virtue of this benevolent company. The plant scientists are promoting alternate weed management techniques but, as with most things, its success is financially dependent.

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )
heidih replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
Oh @David Ross I'm sure you could easily master puff pastry. Should you find yourself bored one day check out Julia Child's version in Mastering the Art of French Cooking - volume 2. She gives clear directions for both the full and the demi. I've done both and was happy with the result, and pleased with myself -
Ginseng "wars" in the US are like secretive truffle hunting. Quite dramatic at times. And then pandemic and trade warring. https://www.pri.org/stories/2021-03-16/american-ginseng-farmers-battered-trade-wars-and-pandemic

Sorry! I didn't get the humor Yes I've never had a disappointing experience with them.

@Tropicalsenior I know Roland as a food marketing & distribution company. I frequently see their products in mainstream stores here. @liuzhou Do you taste a great difference between the black and white seeds? My insensitive palate "sees" the seeds as more cosmetic when sprinkled. Are they toasted or raw?

Looks tasty. Warm weather blankets I guess ') Mustard or other condiment?

Scientific American: Pollinators, yes...Honeybees? Maybe not so much.

I did not mean that author - I meant all the bee bunnies that don't get the whole picture.
