  1. Welcome Petrus. I thought that Chef Hartnetts dishes were better than the other chaps, but what do I know? I think we've established up thread that Gary won't win.
  2. I'm stunned. Atuls food was truly horrific. The queen does not do Garlic. Hardly any of his ingredients are British. A prime example of the BBC going PC barking mad. Utter utter Bollocks. Will never trust Popbitch again.
  3. If you have Sky or Telewest, Great Food Live today is about edible flowers. On from 5.00pm - 7.00pm (ish I think.)
  4. Sharp as a needle yet still pointless. ← Don't be so harsh on yourself Andy.
  5. Fair point AL, but it's slightly redundant anyway as it's not a British dish.
  6. I think the dish you are refering to is the white onion risotto - which would actually work perfect for 200+ guests. Have you had it?
  7. I would have been delighted to have seen some of the more interesting UK chefs. Tony Flinn, David Everitt-Matthias or the chap from L'enclume. Much of what has been prepared has been boring and safe.
  8. At least it not all the usual suspects - Wareing, Corrigan, Caines, Kochhar - you can't dismiss names like those. Who would you rather have seen? ← Some chefs were serious yes. But hardly all. (I understand that they were also paid pretty well for taking part - the "serious" ones that is.
  9. I disagree - Monday to Thursday it is a truly awful programme. Friday it's just about watchable if you whizz through or mute Jenni Bonds bits. I'd also contest the "serious chefs" comment. How the programme ever got commissioned to be shown every evening is beyond me - I personally don't know anyone that has stuck with it (Monday to Friday, rather than just Friday) other than your good self Andy, and I er, personally don't know you.
  10. Far from useless, you've just answered a question of mine. Walking past the stall last week I wondered if it was any good.
  11. I buy the jars of it in Paris Markets. It's on my list of things to make this coming winter. And tinned confit duck too.
  12. This is a marvelous place. About 15 minutes in a taxi from York. Blacksmiths Inn.
  13. Someone who's view I value had a really awful meal there this weekend. Also, as I was walking around Borough Friday afternoon, a group of people came out [of Roast] saying - "Ok, where is the baguette place for some real food." I's sooner go to the BK at London Bridge.
  14. Do you do much fish? It all sounds yummy - I'd struggle to choose. When did Bearnaise become British?
  15. Pretty much what I expected and gleaned from talking to chef. They couldn't stand the heat, so got out of the kitchen.
  16. You'll find that most of the pubs in Beaconsfield will be full of Army types. Travel out.
  17. If there is just 2 of you, go to Gramercy, if you can rustle up a group of 4 or more, go to Craft and eat "family" style. I've not been to Craftsteak, but if I want steak I go across the bridge.
  18. Please. Never ever use dried. Mint also works really well for what is being discussed.
  19. This is possibly interesting, but you really have to back this up. What is making people leave? The wait staff that served me a month ago were revelling in serving and describing my 8 course suprise meal - and trust me I know they were not acting. I met and chatted with the chef for some 15 minutes - we had a candid exchange regarding the food and some common acquaintances - I did not get the impression it was unhappy ship. Do share please Chefboy.
  20. Pie. Meat pie or friut pie - I don't mind. You can't make a meat cake.
  21. As a kid, my mum used to call the evening meal "tea". This greatly confused me. Tea was what old ladies drank, not what I should have for "dinner". I call the evening meal "dinner" in my house. "Supper" is a light snack, taken about an hour before bed. "lunch" is eaten at lunch time. "Dinner" is never eaten at lunchtime. (Unless you are talking of "school dinners". ) Oh, the turmoil.
  22. Custard custard custard - made fresh naturally. You lucky thing!!
