well, despite the interview running an hour longer than anticipated, i was able to get into dc and stop at lindy's red lion for a burger and some cheese fries. thankfully, i was able to get in and out quickly because i didn't have much time to haul @ss back to reagan. oh, and i found out today that i didn't get the job...

"rum & diet coke"? the office of man cards has recently issued a ruling stating that any male drinking said concoction is deemed unfit to carry the man card, and should return his asap. seriously though, can anything diet or "healthy" be considered manly for the purposes o this thread? a greasy burger from dyer's in memphis is manly, a laura's lean beef burger is most certainly not!

thought: steven is 6 parts daniel franco with a splash of barry manilow. tin foil hat theory: red-headed lesbian turned down the oven to screw over the asian girl. carry on. ps."and yes, i am a model *rolls eyes*"

i'm assuming the answer is no. i wasn't totally sold on switching careers for that position anyway. oh well. i may still end up in dc yet...doing law or something else.

I'm going to be near the King Street Metro area of Alexandria on Friday for an interview. I probably won't have time for lunch but was hoping to get some dinner before I head back to the airport. I'm not sure if I'm going to have time to go into DC, so I'm looking for some new eats. Right now it looks like I'll either be staying around that Metro Stop or heading up Old Town. I'm not really looking for anything fancy. If I was going into town, I'd probably stop at Old Ebbitt or Lindy's...if I was heading over to Clarendon, maybe Boulevard wood grill. I guess for some reason i'm leaning toward burgers or pub fare. Thanks in advance.

Hands Down: The Alamo in Georgetown. Let's just say I remembered it...in not a good way. UGH! Between that night and the next morning, I think I dropped about 10 lbs.

I took spanish for 5 years, and my gf majored in it while in college (and does translation work for a publishing company as a side gig). bring it!

np. i was looking for your setup over near vandy place in the parking lots that are still usable. i guess you were over across the street from the rec fields on blakemore. overall, i was disappointed yet again with vandy's tailgating attemps. being homecoming weekend, i had hoped that they could do something interesting. alas, the tent was not that remarkable. -

any updates on your plans for coming to nashville? should be a fun time watching the dores pull out an upset win! -
you'll be in for some surprises next time you're here...lots of change along west end and green hills: houston's is gone, and some new place called bricktops is moving in. the rio bravo building is being turned into a stoney river. maggiano's is about to open up across from tin angel. j. alexander's is moving into the old cooker location near vandy. there's a new le peep over on eliston. the head chef at wild boar is gone, and is supposedly being replaced by someone from the four seasons in atlanta. there's also a new seafood place opening in east nashville called battered and fried, supposedly having a new england feel (let's hope for some real lobster rolls in new england style buns). oh, and there's a cheesecake factory opening in green hills mall this month.

just order it from the white lily website. https://www.whitelily.com/Store/Category.aspx?ID=58 yeah, i'm much more of a tavern person than dealing with bodo's (i never saw the allure of bodo's honestly)...but then again, on weekends, i never woke up until about noon and was happy to wander on down to littlejohn's for a four cheese with turkey or college inn for the greatest chicken parm sammich ever.

poogan's would be worth checking out imho. if you're in the mood for cheap street food, there's usually a guy with a crepe cart in the historic district.
-
there's a place in charlottesville that's called the tavern. it's like the pancake pantry, but with more of a greasy spoon feel.
-
based on the menu, south side 815 is not like a pancake pantry, monell's, loveless, etc. in terms of providing a country breakfast. regardless of menu, no place in dc is going to have the atmosphere or warmth of the aforementioned places in nashville. might as well order something from early's, loveless, etc. and make it yourself.

holly, good call on smokin' ed's. next time you're in middle tn or alabama, you should look up whitt's. also as an fyi: jim n' nick's is opening their second location in nashville this month. the first is off charlotte pike and the new one is on the sam ridley parkway in smyrna. only two more weeks until the jack daniel's world bbq championship in lynchburg...w00t!

New England style hot dog buns in Nashville?
carpetbagger, esq. replied to a topic in Southeast: Dining
yes, that would be what i'm looking for. although i think you should've slapped some butter on that bun and thrown it on a griddle, i'd kill someone for that right now! -
*bump* new-england style hot dug buns and pudding pops

New England style hot dog buns in Nashville?

nope, just called. -
Perhaps I went on an off day, but I wasn't all knocked off my feet by Big Bob Gibson's...and neither was my gf. That's not to say it's bad - far from it. The expectations I had were probably too high. IMHO, Whitt's (in various Alabama towns) does a better pork sammich, and Hog Heaven (not in Alabama) does a better white bbq sauce. If you hit Whitt's, the loaded bbq potato is heaven in a styrofoam box. I'll be hitting Dreamland next time I get to Alabama...supposed to be excellent.

New England style hot dog buns in Nashville?

Yep. They were always labeled "New England Style Hot Dog Buns" at home in Central New York, so I guess that's why I still call them that. One of the few things I miss is the lack of a Wegman's down here...they always seemed to carry whatever we needed. I could order them from here http://www.mapleandmore.com/, but I would prefer to find someplace local if possible. -
After 6+ years in Music City, I don't think I have ever seen a grocery store here carrying them. Has anyone found a place to get them?
-
None at the University of Virginia or Vanderbilt University when I was going to undergrad and law school. That may have changed, although I doubt it. I did, however, have an excellent crepe from a guy in a little cart in Charleston, SC...not sure how close he gets to the College of Charleston campus though (when I saw him, he was in the historic district kinda on the opposite side of where the campus is)...i guess anything's possible.
