Have you tried any of the salami? I've never tried Katz's salami. You're lucky you didn't get ticketed, but I'm glad you had a chance to try that pastrami! ← It's good but I prefer hard salami. Would never choose t over the pastrami or corned beef.

If anyone was near Katz Sunday morning between 10:30-11:00 and had to walk around a salt covered, silver Ford Expedition parked on the sidewalk- my apologies! Still an awe inspiring experience and quintessential "NY". Had a monster pastrami and got some soft salamis to bring back

Landmarc It my girl’s birthday and she has always wanted to visit NY and do the shopping thing. What’s a guy to do? Saturday was the night for the birthday dinner and the only stipulation was for it be something reasonable in price for her friends, and not too progressive as they are not the most adventurous of eaters. They seated in this cozy, little alcove that was perfect for a birthday dinner. We started with French Onion soup, which we all thought was a little bland. The stock lacked any depth or seasonings save for a little Marsala/Sherry flavor. I started with a large order of Mussels and frites. The stock for the mussels was excellent and the aioli for the frites was delicious (I was bypassing the mussels to dip the crusty bread into the mussel stock.) The greens and Caesars were all nicely dressed, crisp, and fresh tasting. Steaks were cooked to order and of good quality (An excellent value in my opinion) Nice sides of brussel sprouts and creamed spinach made matched well. We also has an order of the Short-rib Bolognese that was good but not excellent. A little bland although the meat used was tasty but the tomatoes lacking. Another excellent value is the wine list – lot of interesting half bottles and low markups on the full bottles. Another fantastic idea is the dessert program. Small bites for 3.00 and try them all for 15.00. We did our own little tasting. Chocolate Mousse, Lemon Tart, Tiramisu, Blueberry cumble, Nutella Éclair, crème brulee, and an assortment of ice creams and sorbets. They give you a cone of cotton candy which is a memorable and whimsical touch. The Ice creams and sorbets were fine although they may have been better than I had thought. We had eaten at OTTO on fri and sampled just about all of WingDings gelatos after s few pizzas. Still the best gelato I’ve ever had bar none. If Landmarc was in my neighborhood, I’d eat there once a week. Landmarc 179 West Broadway (Tribeca)

They don't, unfortunately. I just gave Milano a call, and they carry capers packed in brine or salt only. ← What about the Spanish shop on St. Laurent just down from Vieille Europe? I'm not sure that they have them, but I wouldn't be surprised. They have lots of canned and jarred olives and capers in various forms. ← Any idea of the name of the shop? I'm in Toronto. ← Maybe the House of Spice or The Olive Pit?

This one is one of the 'unknown' Lambos or I'd never have been able to afford it - bought it from a freidn who got it from the widow of a guy that dies and had it in a garage for 25 years so I needed to do some waking up on the beast. So as not to take up more space on a wine board, you can see my other cars at CARS One teaser - my latest project - bet you don't know what this one is: ← Had no clue - you had it named on your web page though. My guess would have been some Iso Grifo, one-off TVR or Bricklin prototype.

If anyone is at Pegu, Flatiron, or Butterfield 8 on Saturday night and sees me, say hello. If I'm face down on the floor, can you get me an ice water and a coffee? Thanks
-
Sounds like you guys need better friends
-
It's all relative - their high end corkscrews are still excellent. They're no different than the Henckel's, Calphalon, Beringer, Ralph Lauren's, etc of today.
-
I bought a case of Owens Roe Sinister Hand on special - can you give me some TN on the ones you mentioned? thanks

Anyone see the episode with the Donut guy? He was quite the character! I almost had some sympathy for Bobby the way that guy was acting.
-
GTS actually - one of 100 built. I'm surprised that anyone recognises that model - not very well known. I keep reminding myself that should I take the car on a summer picnic I must bring a bottle of Campoleone or at the least a Trescone.....old Ferruccio retired shortly after making this car and went off to make wine as a retirement project - I don't know what sort of car he kept for himself, probably a Jarama. Apologies for taking up wine space for cars, but here are a couple of better photos. ← She's a beaut! I was quite the car buff in my late teens/early 20s. Spent much of my time restoring american iron with the occasional import here and there. It was a great way to pay for school and drive something nice. Owned my shared of corvettes, an Austin Healy 100-6, an XKE, many muscle cars but even all together probably wouldn't cover the replacement cost of your "Ghini - maybe the campagnola knock-offs, but not the whole car
-
Actually it is an old Lamborghini, but congrats on recognising the Italian content! At least I get to buy eponymous wine - the Lamborghini Campoleone is often very good. Can't say the same if I owned a Ferrari - what wine would work - Ferrari-Carano, maybe? Naw, not in the same class. The winery was founded by Ferruccio when he retired and is now run by his daughter. Yes, the Sassicaia was lovely, although not as good as the 1979 and 1985. Tonight I get to taste 1966 Bordeaux, but I'm driving the minivan, not the Lambo.... ← Islero GT or GTS? Can't see the vent windows

I've got almost a case of 70 Beychevelle that's pretty tired as well.

full City Paper Ariana review ← I spoke with Adam Wilcox about it - he has one of the best ethnic food noses I've ever come across. He says the place was great so I'll take his word as gospel.

A very good friend will be on a wine biz trip and would like some suggestions regarding some places to dine. In his group, maybe 2-3 others are foodies so can you give me some tips? Thanks in advance His itinerary "Hotel Mercure Gare De Lyon in Paris for the first(Sunday) and last nights of the trip Imperator Concorde in Nimes for three nights Avignon Grand Hotel for two nights Hotel La Closerie in Beaune for two nights Most other evenings are locked up with events with the winemakers or touring estates. Realistically the best shot to schedule a four star meal is in a place like Beaune where I'm sure there are plenty of options."
