  1. I apologize of these have already been mentioned but I'm eating breakfast @ work & rummaging through quickly so I didn't get to read the whole thred - but I will at lunch! Tony's Pizza in Tuckerton Joey's Pizza on Long Beach Island Attillios in North Brunswick Now I live in KY & pizza sucks. The first thing husband & I do when we head home is hit the pizza. We stayed with his brother on LBI one year & had pizza for dinner 4 of the 5 days we were there. I miis NJ Pizza.
  2. Don't like: Rachel Ray - Her mannerisms are irritating as hell. Everytime I turn around it seems she has ANOTHER show on FN. Please - enough. Mercy. I give. And why must I see Emeril everywhere? Am I the only one that can't stand him? Or is it just his audience that makes him so aggravating? To date, my dinner guests have never cheered & applauded when I've added any type of ingredient to something I was cooking. Occasionally, I get the "You're not putting that in there, are you?" from my husband. Does that count? Sandra Lee - my husband wants to know why her boobs are at her wasit? Other than that - I find her to be a terrible train wreck - I just can't stop looking. I think it's because everytime she picks something up, I just can't wait to see what God awful thing she's going to use it for. Giadia DeLaurentis - I can't stand the way she talks. I don't know why. It seems so stupid to not like her for that, but I cannot stand the way she speaks. She said parmesan crisps one time & I nearly kicked the TV. It was something about the word crisps that really struck a nerve. Bobby Flay I'd like to smack. Hard. Love: Alton Brown Julia - of course - loved her since I was a kid Jacques Torres Iron Chef Cast - original, not USA I like Ina Garten but I'm so jealous of her lifestyle. Eidted to add another one that I thought of.
  3. We still have a free standing Roy Rogers - have had it since I was a kid & it's the only one I know about. The Jersey Turnpike Roys aren't very good but that could also be due to the fact that we're usually in them later in the evening since we usually leave for travel after work.

    Picky Eater Help

Let it go. She's not going to be happy about the fact that you're "sneaking" things into her food. Why does everybody feel the need to change picky eaters? I can't stand spicey foods & everybody always gives me the same speech - just try it, you'll like it. Um, OK, what part of I don't like spicey foods didn't you understand? I don't mind a little kick but I simply cannot eat food that makes me uncomfortable. Picky eaters know what they like & when they feel adventurous, they'll try something new. Until that time, leave it alone. However, if you do invite this person over for a meal with others, make it perfectly clear that you are not bending over backwards to make her a special meal. We have a friend who is 35 years old & he eats nothing but junk food. Pizza, cheeseburgers, mac & cheese, kool aid, mountain dew & sugary, chocolatey snacks. No fruit, no veggies, no chicken unless it's fried. At Thanksgiving, he brings a pizza to his parents house & that's all he eats.
  5. This is a great icing - it can be used as a glaze, but I prefer to thicken it with Wondra or flour after it comes off the heat & spread it like icing. It's wonderful. Sarah Bernhardt Chocolate Glaze 1 Cup quality chocolate chips 1 stick & 1/2 butter- room temperature, cut into pieces 1 Tablespoon Karo clear corn syrup Place all ingredients in top of double boiler, fill bottom of boiler half full of warm water. Heat over medium setting, and stir just till chocolate chips are melted and only a few spots of unmelted butter remain. Remove from heat and stir gently till remaining butter has melted. Cool till the consistency of Hershey's chocolate ice cream syrup for pouring over a filled cake, or allow to set till firm and apply to cake with an icing spatula. Note: I have found that in order for this to set firm, you must add a few T of flour or Wondra to it. Just add 1T at a time, stir & allow to set until you get the firmness you are looking for. I always use this recipe this way as I don't care for glazes. This spreads perfectly & has a wonderful consistency after it has been thickened & tastes marvelous.
  6. There's really only 1 that immediately springs to mind for me. We used to vacation in the Outer Banks every summer when I was a kid. There was a pizza place in Nags Head that we ate ate on the 1st night of our stay every year. It was called Van's Pizza & the support colums for the building went right through the center of the tables which were painted red. Van's was still there last time we were down in 1998 (after some 25 years of visiting) but in a completely different form. It was a "regular" Italian restaurant & the pizza wasn't anywhere near as good.
  7. I do. There was one in Ravenna (Ohio) until probably 1981. I seem to remember them having a mushroom burger when no one else did. We also had Rax here and they made chocolate chip milkshakes that were the bomb diggity. ← They did have a mushroom burger - you're right!! I'm so glad someone else remembers Burger Chef! I can't remember when they were gone from around here, but I remember I was probaly around 10 or 11. And we had a Rax right down the street from my high school - they had great sundaes! And the chocolate chip milkshakes were awesome! Thanks for bringing back that memory! :)

    Fenugreek

Thanks for the quick replies! And anzu, yes I would love to hear about the dish you just learned. And thanks for the Type 2 Diabetes info - my uncle has it so this is definietly good information. Thank you all so much for your help!
  9. Does anybody remember a fast food restaurant called Burger Chef? We had them here in the midwest & I don't remember when they ceased to be, but this thread made me think about them. Has anybody esle heard of them? I remember they had great kids meals - and that was big for me since I was about 7 when I first went to one.

    Fenugreek

Ok, so I have Fenugreek in my spice rack & I have absolutely no idea what to use this in. Can anybody give me some ideas? Thanks!
  11. Gnocchi: My nana & the rest of my Italian family pronounces it En-Yo-Kee. Gyro - Different strokes on this one. I pronounce it Yur-oh, which I know is completely butchered & incorrect. I hear Jai-roh, Gee-roh, Guy-roh, Year-oh. etc.
  12. Rum: 1. Captain Morgan Private Reserve 2. Captain Morgan Parrot Bay 3. Bacardi Vodka: 1. Grey Goose 2. Smirnoff 3. Stoli Amaretto 1. DiSaranno - Ok, that's the only one I use so I can't rate any other brands
  13. Black Black - I have some on my desk right now. And I know this isn't gum, but I'm listing it anyway - Nagoya Cakes -yummy.
  14. Low carb anything - I not only hate seeing this on menus, but also written across every packaged good in the grocery store. Blackened anything Salads made with weeds & listed as gourmet or organic Seasoned french fries - when did everybody & their brother start covering fries with pepper & garlic? And why can't you just make me a cheeseburger with American cheese on it? Why do you have to look at me like I am clearly insane for wanting American cheese on my burger? Gee, can ya tell I'm not quite the gourmet, here?
  15. OMG - Thank you!! Every single time they showed her, the title under name either said that she lost X amount of weight, & she ALWAYS had to mention that she lost weight whenever she said anything. And my husband was the one who actually said that she looked like Rachel Ray without the annoying mannerisms & without talking out of the side of her mouth. We both really liked Hans & I was sad to see him go because he was enjoyable. Harmony was the the token "hot chick" but she did come back nicely after they screwed her up in the cake decoratiing how to. Deborah didn't bother me, but I think people didn't vote for her perhaps because she is a celebrity chef & an actress & people really didn't want to see her get her own show. Michael was too annoying & I was happy when he got cut. We both liked Eric too but whenever he froze we were like, "No, no, don't freeze, c'mon dude, pull it together". I enjoyed the show (Tivo'd it so I wouldn't miss it) & I think all in all it was very entertaining. It will be interesting to see how Dan & Steve's show goes!
  16. Anything deep fried! I try to fool myself by saying that since I have my own deep fryer & I control what oil goes in & since it flash fries relatively quickly, that it's not too bad for me! Yeah, right. OK, sure, while I'm dreaming I'd like a million dollars too. I think the fried stuiff makes me feel more guilty than eating sweets does. My favorites are crab rangoons & cheese sticks. Ok, now I'm really hungry.
  17. When I was a kid, Burger King used to have what was called a Yumbo - it was basically hot ham & cheese on a sesame seed bun. Oh God, I loved it & I really wish they'd bring it back. I can't remember when they quit offering them but I'm fairly certain they were gone by before I was 12.
