Admittedly, I'm fuzzy on these things at best. Isn't there also a rule that you are supposed to stand when someone [or only a lady?] leaves the table and returns? How often is that observed? Maybe we could work a trade: we'll stand when you come and go but if something hot arrives while you are gone, we eat.
Eh, sorry, Fat Guy, your seared foie gras was gonna get cold, so we ate it while you were in the loo. Hey, it was subtle but delicious. You'd have enjoyed it. Really.
I was in Topline in Glendale over the weekend and saw they had the current release from Silver Oak for $48. Then, I was thinking about the Charles Shaw at Trader Joe's for $1.99. Money gets short this time of the year. There's lots of entertaining to do. So, given limited resources, would you opt for 1 bottle of Silver Oak or 2 cases of Charles Shaw?
hollywood -- I haven't focused in on polystyrene ones. What do they look like? Ones I've seen are a sort of greenish-white tupperware-ish looking thing. Obviously, they could come in any color. I think lesser hotels use them for room service, but I've seen them in restaurants.
I don't think it's the synchronicity they "ooh" and "aha." I think it's looking at what the other people got and trying not to be envious or feel superior. Did you ever do that Christmas thing where people open gifts and get to steal them from one another? Real study in human nature.
Scenario 1), everyone stares at the unlucky diner waiting for the go ahead. Scenario 2), everyone stares at the missing culprits chair, then at each other waiting to see who's gonna go first. What the hell, he'd want us to.
