  1. sliced red papaya. I scored a giant one for only 1.29 a pound! I also have some Roquefort and a Korean pear. and some leftover tiny roasted potatoes with creme fraiche. I think I'm just going to call this lunch.
  2. I don't think anyone at Applebee's or chili's has ever noticed me dunking my own tea bag into the hot water i paid for. I've walked into similar places or bars with a paper cup of coffee, but only if I was walking around downtown with it beforehand. Again, no one notices.
  3. I was also excited about the white chocolate, mostly because my favorite restaurant in town here recently introduced a "scallops with white chocolate dill sauce" starter. I was nervous at first, but it was fantastic. I think it'is really one of those combinations one has to try before dissing. When what's-her-face started bashing the salmon dish so HEAVILY, I was turned off completely. She was rude and insulting, especially for never tasting the dish.
  4. A mini Snickers ice cream bar. It's like a chocolate caramel peanut sundae in a tiny package.
  5. baked lays and a bar of Dove dark chocolate. The problem is: I'll go through the entire bar without realizing it before I finish browsing.
  6. There is a big, round, flattish white pumpkin that is most commonly used in most of africa. It doesn't have much of a seed cavity and is mostly pumpkin flesh inside. As far as I know, this is what Africans refer to with the word "pumpkin." It was always served at our house and we never, ever saw the big orange pumpkins.
  7. Carl's Junior is Hardee's, right? Don't they still advertise as Hardee's, too?
  8. The boyfriend and I devoured almost an entire bag of Brussels after dinner tonight. We made nice english breakfast tea with milk and sugar and dunked them while watching tv on the couch with a blanket. I love the Brussels becuase they're perfectly thin, crisp, and delicious; they also have sentimental worth for us. Tea and Brussels cookies were the main focus of the evening of our first date. (after the movie/dinner stuff, of course.) We stayed up for ours munching and talking and cuddling! Now he always keeping a bag in the pantry.

    Dinner! 2008

Kim and Marlene, how was the grilled fruit salsa with the ham? I like the sound of it so much I'm planning on improvising a version of my own this weekend with ham leftovers. yum!
  10. I guess this is a stupid question, but I'm gathering that Lee Anne now works for Top Chef? That's kind of neat, I think. Probably a fun job.
  11. The entire "shopping at peopel's houses" idea was ridiculous and pointless. The food items were obviously placed intentionally. Did they just need to fill up some time on the show? I would much rather see more details about specific dishes and their critiques than watch people collect ingredients from random places.
  12. I never got to eat a Hershey bar as a kid until I was about eight. My parents only bought nice dark chocolate. I was so disgusted when I finally tasted one. I've never liked gross chocolate. Fruit Rool-Ups were also longed for as a child. And Twizzlers. Both of those are gross. But I thought so even as a kid.
  13. I feel exactly the same way. And I think anyone offended by a server's touch would never touch the server.
  14. My mother also does the corn / veggies thing. She and her mother both advocate having something orange or yellow AND somethign green on the plate. It's pretty, but i think it's also wise...you get a larger variety of nutrients that way.
  15. It is unacceptable for someone (a server, salesperson, whatever) to touch me in any way. They do not know me and have no right to put their hands on my body for any reason. I feel this way about most people. I urge servers to assume that they shouldn't touch diners, simply becuase in that case it's better to err on the side of caution. To someone who doens't like to be touched by strangers, it can be extremely offensive and violating.
  16. A whole bar of Cadbury's Caramello chocolate. (seven ounces? I don't remember...) Approximately six cups of milky tea with three sugars each. French fries, which were retrieved by the fantastic boyfriend who went out specifically for my french fry craving. Two big, fat slices of grocery store french baguette (the totally unauthentic kind that's velvety and soft all the way through) with a thick layer of butter and another of apricot jam. Banana slices with brown sugar, dipped in creme fraiche. Sliced black plums with gouda on the side. Yeah, I'm full. And I have two Easter meals to attend tomorrow. hah.
  17. I agree. It's excessive and distracting. I have a hard time believing they aren't doing it to get a reaction or to look like bad asses. I'd like to hear about their food themes and ideas without having to pick out the relevant words in their clips.
  18. It's really easy to make cookie cutters using small strips of aluminum and pliers to bend.
  19. I am so far unimpressed with most of this year's contestants. The dishes they're putting out seem very unrefined to me. I liked the mint and yuzu "glacier" idea, but it's a cocktail party, which usually means beautiful, individually portioned tasted of things. I was mostly disappointed with the presentations of most of the dishes. Couldn't they have served the gelee in little spoons or something?
  20. Cadbury eggs are significantly smaller. I believe this began last year. Eggs from three years ago are actually the size of real eggs.
  21. You can visit Blogspot, Livejournal, or any other free blog-hosting site. From there you can register your blog name, customize the look of your blog, and make entries. You may need to use an image hosting site (also free) like Flickr or Photobucket to post pictures. (these hold your pictures on the web and provide you with a URL for each so that the blog site doesn't have to upload from your personal computer.)
  22. Similar to cherry tomatoes, but I stuff Peppadews with it.
  23. I think the benefit of using wontons is merely to avoid having to mix and roll out the pasta, not making the individual dumplings.
  24. I was curious about the Marmite pizza. I feel very strongly that Marmite is somethign you have to grow up eating to enjoy. I Marmite, Butter, and cheddar sandwich on wheat almost every day in grade school, and ate Marmite on crackers as a toddler. I like to think I'd love it just as much if I'd discovered it in my teens, though.
  25. I agree with you, canucklehead. The wonton skins are vert thin and don't have that "pasta" flavor. But I've seen so many recipes (from Martha Stewart, Giada, etc) that use these, even for pierogies! They can help with a weeknight meal and they're pretty good.
