  1. i don't like greyish brownish food. an all white meal? gross. but i like bowls of fluffy white things. buttercream frosting, and meringue. i can eat bowls of meringue. artificial colors don't actively bother me, but there's nothing like a meal of fresh, vibrantly colored foods that are radiant on their own accord. summer veggies and things...just gorgeous.

    Dinner! 2005

hahaha! not too bad with half a stick of butter, huh? here's my excuse for dinner: last night was slightly better: some tiny, new sushi place. it wasn't bad.
  3. prewashed, strung, and bagged sugar snap peas. and glace cherries out of the tub, which aren't quite so healthy. hahah.
  4. when i was young my family had a little...carbonator? we used falvor syrups and water, then attached teh bottle, pulled a lever, and our drinks were fizzy. this sounds like something i'd try, though.

    FRESCA

i know overseas (south africa) fresca is sold as a non diet drink. it's so nice and citrus-yyyy.
  7. i like the dagoba with lavender too, ling! i had, today: half a box of turkish delight (rose flavored) one slice of black forest cake with whipped cream three squares of a cadbury's milk chocolate with roasted almonds couple of milk chocolate godivas apple pastry...puff pastry with apple slices baked on top candied ginger joseph schmidt chocolate pumpkin phew!
  8. the place where i work has made witches fingers with dyed almonds as the fingernails, as mentioned above. they're pretty great! we also did little short bread brooms with pretzel sticks for the handle. peanut butter balls dipped in white chocolate, decorated to be eyeballs. butternut soup served in miniature scooped out pumpkins.
  9. ComeUndone, i'm practically having multiple orgasms over your blog. you laugh, but i'm serious! the mango mousse cake made my toes curl. someone's mom used to make cupcakes with miniature candybars melted in the middle. milky way, snickers, three musketeers. too sweet, but such fun.
  10. rabbit LOOKS kind of like white meat when it's cooked?
  11. this new little restaurant opened last week and already it's my favorite in town. yesterday: yummy crab cakes with home made potato chips today: grilled wild salmon on a polenta cake with asparagus and a sweet raspberry barbeque sauce. absolutely divine.
  12. a chocolate chunk cookie, two lindt truffles (greasy!), one godiva punpkin spice chocolate (pretty nice), bananas and strawberries with devon custard, and some mint chocolate candies.
  13. these crab cakes with home made chips at a little bistro. SO GOOD.
  14. little enterprise sausage. apparnelty my arms were FAT and looked like links!
  15. a favorite childhood casserole of mine was ground beef, a few chopped tomatoes, lots of chopped onion, various seasonings, some ketchup, (yes, ketchup) and garlic, simmered for a while. mom mixed this with cooked spaghetti (almost a bolognese type thing) and put it in a casserole dish. then covered with a sharp cheddar cheese sauce and baked until bubbly. i craaaave tghis dish soetimes, and make it and freeze portions. it's really not that good, just something i enjoy. we're from south africa, and when my family moved here all the neighbors were telling us what we "shoudl have" for thanksgiving. three or four green bean casseroles were brought to our doorstep on thanksgiving morning. (all made with french's french fried onions, canned beans, and campbell's cream of mushroom.) we never understood the appeal.
  16. there are two elderly women who come into the lunch restaurant where i serve. we fight over who has to take their table because they're just so annoying. asking about spinach and feta croissant: "now do we pick a meat to put in that?" "no, it's a vegetarian entree." "i suppose some people can't afford to have meat, poor things." looking at scone selection: "now, these are scones, you say?" "yes. these are dried cherry, these are cheddar dill." "now what do scones do?" SCONES: WHAT DO THEY DO?? my god.
  17. um...what is natto?
  18. four berry pie, and a giant piece of belgian chocolate cheesecake from work. i'd been eyeing it in the case, and there was one piece left at closing time. so i took it.
  19. i use a pound cake base, and use just enough batter to hold the glace cherries, raisins, pecans, golden raisins, and other stuff together. i add all teh sweet spices. it shoudl be very heavy. wrap it in foil and douse in brandy every week or so. yum.
  20. wendy, i am in indiana (about as midwest as you can get! haha...) and i have been getting some delicious, plump, firm, sweet cherries as Sam's Club! rainier and dark cherries. they say "washington cherries," though. and there's a picture of an eagle on the plastic carton? weird...
  21. well, softer than other seeds, i guess. i chew teh watermelon, but just dont' notice the seeds. i have eaten them ever since i was little. for some reason my teeth never encounter the seeds!
  22. the thing people always seem to notice about me is how i completely ignore watermelon seeds. i don't notice or remove them. i forget they're there, and have never been bothered by them at all. mostly i just get a quiet, "oh, you're eating the seeds, too?" they're soft and small, so who cares? seedless watermelons have never seemed as rich and flavorful as the seed-filled ones. is that just me?
  23. meriengue was a huge part of my childhood. my grnadmother would make lemon meriengue pies with the thickest layer of merienge on top. i'd help her make extra an eat it raw. and the giant, swirled, pink vanilla meringues (topped with silver balls, of course) were present ast every childhood birthdya party i coudl remember. meringue is so romantic! to those of you who are using it in your restaurants, i applaud you.
  24. whoa. the thing about a wedding is that it can be as elaborate, elegant, simple, or silly as you want it to be. if they want a krispy creme wedding cake, let them! i would never, ever be a part of a crusade to stop people from eating what they want to eat, especially at their own wedding. good luck witht he K.K. tower!
  25. your photos are beautiful.
