  1. I really liked grilling plums and figs when they were in season last year........topping with some goat cheese and honey
  2. Me, too, Kathy.......although it has been 25 years !
  3. Been there ! Also managed to slice the right third of my left index finger, through the nail, directly into the chopped herbs............. I WAS eating alone, but had given all my Bandaids to my daughter to take on a Spring Break roadtrip. Paper towels and Scoth Tape, anyone? And an hour of walking around with my hand above my head saying, "Ow."
  4. I used to be able to get 'Big Head Coffee Cola' in San Diego but not for a long while. I REALLY liked that one! I don't think Coke Blak (other than the name) is too bad............
  5. Also~ can I freeze creme fraiche without a loss in texture or flavor? Thanks~ Kathy
  6. Chris~ I was thinking the same thing and would LOVE to hear input from anyone who is in th eknow about the financial aspects of the business. It'd be nice to have one with some serious foodie input............
  7. It is a great place to go if you can run in on your way home from work or on a weekend, no more, no less. It should not be a destination..........
  8. For me, the multiyear, multipage photo and delicious description encrusted French Laundry Thread just keeps getting better and better. Such fab photos to help us visualze that menu, such educated palates to give us a glimpse at what is good, and not as good (I don't dare say BAD ! Not possible!) Someday, after the kid is out of college (4th year of 5, wants to get her phD.....how can I say no?)
  9. I haven't thought about different blossom flavors, but I like to plant a selection of squash and pumpkin, because I like the larger blossoms for stuffing. I failed to get my own tomato starts going in the greenhouse this year, so I'll be relying on tomato plants to get my garden started this year. Any recommendations for local tomato plants? Someone who will ship? ← Mary~ Is it too late to start seeds? I just drool when looking at all these heirloom varieties at Gary Ibsen's Tomatofest site I'd share seeds with you if you want me to order some............ edited for clarification of intent!
  10. Then maybe it is just New York...... in san diego it is a good place to get butter, eggs, cheese and herb salad. No biggie. There are other fun things at good prices but I don't do my weekly shopping there. Nor does anyone I have ever known. Nor is there a line, or people in Hawaiian shirts (except, after all , it IS San Diego, so there are some non-TJ shirt wearers !) For you it is a novelty, and that will wear off in a week or two. I personally don't get the hype pro OR con. It is just a store............not a lifestyle!
  11. Geez~ WHY are you New Yorkers so THREATENED by TJ's ?? It is not supposed to be the best of everything, it is not supposed to be a substitute for your neighborhood grocery.......!!!!!!!!!! It is what it is, a fun place to get some good and unusual things at a good price. GEEZ!!! Get over it........you are so BORING about this! Don't go if it offends you, don't expect it to be everything if you do go. DON'T try to spoil it for the ones who WANT to enjoy it.........
  12. Just bought some for $1.99/4 @ Vons..........wanna try it with a half and half float...............
  13. Roy Yamaguchi's Hawaiian Martini Totally kickass and DELICIOUS ! Oh......and the pineapple afterwards !

    French Onion Soup

That looks really good ! I think I'll try it this weekend. Did you make your own beef stock? I have some that I made, nice and jellied.......but too sweet, somehow. I guess I'll need to make it with canned..............

    Pig Head 'n Trotters

Seafood~ Look here Bouchon Cookbook Thread, posts 120 and 126 (among others) to see what Thomas Keller does with his trotters !
  16. Gonna make the trotters this weekend along with the Cauliflower Gratin and perhaps the Lemon Tart. probably start with the Salmon Tartare..... Any suggestions on what else to serve with the trotters? Gosh, maybe the roasted Beet/goat cheese salad............
  17. Can't say that a wine called 'Plungerhead' makes me want to slurp it up..........
  18. San Jose or Los Angeles. Your pick! ← pretty much my choices, huh? Next time I am in San Diego............
  19. aznsailorboi, this sounds delicious altho I can't imagine where I can find the herbs in Paso Robles ! Was the herbal combination for a specific health purpose or just 'cause it tasted good? I'd love to hear other combinations, too..........
  20. There is a thread HERE about this and I think there might even be an earlier one. Maybe we can get them merged? I know that not everyone likes to cook the way we eGulleteers do, or has the time. As an alternative to Kraft Mac 'n Cheese and pizza, I think they are a good idea. I wish I had one nearby to check out...........
  21. New York Times Article Saw this article about Dream Dinners (and the like) ..........looks like a popular concept!
  22. OK, so the Costco rotisserie chicken has been outed (frenzy) but it is at least minimally healthy (if you think Atkins!) but here is mine: layers potato chip salami dill dip salami potato chip............
  23. They are not usually stuffed, but "loo'ed". If you look into the window of a Chinese BBQ place and see all the roasted meats hanging there, invariably, the will be an orangy coloured skein or two of what looks like intestines. Most time these are the uteri or oviducts of the pig, not intestines . Delicious. ← ACK........ You win............
  24. Seeded rye, creamy butter, pickles.............
  25. Not quite all the time but, ditto..........for jelly fish. Since I was in Haiti and they referred to sea cucumber as 'sea prick'..........no.
