  10. On the other hand, maybe your friends have Asperger's Syndrome, which keeps them from understanding normal social interactions and expectations. I have two nephews who are Asperger's, and this sounds very familiar. Just saying. They need to have your expectations spelled out very specifically and non-judgementally. Not easy but doable.
  11. Every night when I get home from work the dogs and I go check out the tomatoes, throw the ball a little and nibble on the little yellow pear tomatoes (they like them much more than I do....) WORD TO THE WISE: As I was making dinner last night, my girl dog went out the dog door and was gone a LONG time. She came back in, looking kind of guilty. When I asked her what she'd been up to, she shook her head and I got sprayed with little tomato bits ! She had picked all of my low hanging ripe tomatoes, probably 4-5 . Early Girl, Rainbow, Rad Red. Don't know if she ate more of the yellow pears. My fault, I know. At least she didn't bring them inside and eat them on the tan carpet....
  12. You might find some good information at WINECOUNTRY.COM....they have info on 10 different California wine regions.................
  13. Whew. Big topic. One of your best resources for CA wines, esp. boutiques, (IMHO) would be the lovely, gracious and talented REBEL ROSE, who has her own damned great winery here in Paso Robles/Templeton (Dover Canyon Winery). You might check out our Paso Robles Wine Tour and Dinner, for eG members, Sept. 15, even come, to see what the Central Coast has to offer. Just a little insight to my tiny corner of the world, and there is SO much more !
  14. Apparently Keckler, AKA Stephanie Vander Weide, thinks so as her TELEVISION WITHOUT PITY RECAP would indicate. (I LOVE that site ! Top Chef and Food TV Star, too !) It was 9:55 and I kept saying to my daughter, "I thought this was a finale?"
  15. Jon~ Just Napa? There is so much more these days to CA wines than just Napa..................
  16. Kathy, Have you given this to your Granpa yet? I'm dying to hear..........
  17. I, too, am loving this blog and don't want to see it end. A few questions/comments: how is Mara doing? why Siena? Tell us about that.....performer or tech? Mark, bergerka, Jamie, etc al: I LOVE when someone takes the time to flesh out their profile. When intriguing comments are made, the first thing I do is look to see if there is something in the profile that will let me understand and not have to ask. Thank you, thank you. And pictures are the best ! Kathy
  18. A note on Black Cherries~ I just picked a few that were not as ripe as the previous and they were MUCH better ! I also had not watered for two days. the little bit f tang helped a LOT . Moral to this story: Don't wait until they get soft.....abuse them a little........... Kathy
  19. HAH ! Apparently a game that we aren't playing. I wonder if "they"'d get the picture that we all find it odd, over-familiar and off-putting, rather than endearing. No bigger tip, for sure !
  20. Ditto, then anything goes ! I measure rice, coffee...................can't think of anything else !
  21. I was debating whether to get that or the petty. Petty first, I think. I'm so excited !
  22. FG~ How about this 270mm that Octaveman likes? 270mm (10.5") Tojiro-DP Gyutou Kathy
  23. OK, what do you think of this combo? Tojiro 150mm Petty and the Tojiro-DP 240mm Gyutou (actually, looks like the 240 won't come up in the link; this is the 210mm. Looks like two versatile knives at good prices.
  24. I am looking at the Korin website right now and the prices on the Tojiro DP gyutos are so good I am tempted to buy two. Now, what sizes? Short woman, medium sized woman hands............. My 5" santoku seems a bit short. I have a 7" chef's knife that seems pretty good. What purpose would there be in getting a longer one? The 7" Tojiro DP gyuto is $38.25 !
