2 quick questions: 1. How does one reserve or secure a seat at a Studio Kitchen event? 2. What is the cost? I searched the thread and only found $50 from a 2002 post.

The somber thought of leaving S. Philly for Washington Township makes me think of the line in Goodfellas:

I have not yet been to the new locale, but went to their original site often. Do they still serve the crab claw appetizer? This is my favorite appy anywhere!

home-made Coquille St. Jacques: 1 box, Kraft Mac 'N Cheese 1 can albacore tune (the real poor man's lobster)

went to #9 lat night, and it was excellent. the menu is brief, with only a few specials, but well worth the trip. Sorry, no pics, but for starters I had a tomato-creole-crab bisque and my wife had the beet salad.. both were excellent. I had their braised short ribs in a gorgonzola sauce over mashed potatoes and veggies. sounds very basic but the wine reduction and the gorg. made an excellent mix and the mashed were creamy and not the lumpy garlicy type that have become the norm at many places. The salmon dish my wife ordered was simply the best salmon I have ever had, in a wasabi/soy presentation and seared to perfection. The desserts were not quite as noteworty, and since we were pushign maximum density, peach cobbler that was perhaps not appreciated. Thanks for the recommendation... we will surely be back to this gem.

last time I read a sign like that, it spelled doom for the locale...

Kelly's in NE Philly on Welsh Road at Bustleton Avenue. A pretty good deafood menu. Out of the way, but worth it for the AYCE dungeness crab legs. If not with the 'rents, tuck it away and try it out one day.

I have seen the security be very tight and search every bag, creating a pile of beer cans, water bottles, etc at the entrance. They even told us we could not bring in a blanket, but saw others with blankets. I would say it is highly unlikely that you can bring in any food or drink.

Hamilton Street Grill in Lambertville is a BYOB... it is excellent if you like meat... great outdoor eating also if it is a nice night... search the NJ forum for reviews. also i highly recommend Deannas in Lambertville... not BYO but a nice selection of wines and excellent fresh-made-to-order pasta.

jmb beat me to the post... ditto...

someone should convince Tex to park in Zeke's parking lot for a few days...

I've often found eating crabs to be a calorie-losing proposition, exercise really. Delicious exercise, sure, but every bit as good as a jog around the park. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ← I am willing to publicly admit that I am a friend of jmbrightman and had the pleasure of joining him and his friends last summer on an annual philadium crab-fest. I thought they were completely crazy to suggest beforehand that we would go to C&P to "fill up". But, after 2-3 hours of eating crabs, I was HUNGRY! (and I am not a big eater). For $40 it ended up being a 4-hour all you can eat and drink at two separate locales...

I know this is a "breakfast" thread, but since Main Line suburbia has been discussed: Saladworks in Wynnewood is advertizing "kids eat free" on thursday nights....

Cheese Whiz.. there may be imitators, but there is no greater pasturized processed cheese spread... while I am sure I lose a day or so of my life when I ingest a Whiz-steak, it always seems worth it!
-
interesting... having never purchased Whiz other than on a cheesesteak, I never even considered that there was more than one brand...

recently had Dave's and Lucy's and IMHO there is no comparison... Dave's pulled port was way too salty, and the BBQ sauce only partially countered the salt... the ribs were also salty and nothing special... Lucy's, on the other hand, was simply delish... can't wait to go back!
-
my fears are now confirmed.... same sign in the window and the phone is now disconnected... it appears we lost a good bbq place

Hillary, I feel like I know you, as I have boys 3 and 5. At first, our little guy was a food-throwing monster much like lab-kept macaca mulatto research monkey released on the public, but he is much calmer now. We have been on a friday night circuit of Ruby's, Sams (Wynnewood), various pizza places (Bertucci's, Bravo, Dakota, etc), and the occasional trip to Chili's or Applebee's (good crayons/coloring). Thanks for this thread... any suggestions may be life-altering!

A guy willing to eat a few cheesesteaks in a single weekend might enjoy the experience of Dimitri's. They are BYOB and have no reservations, so consider it if you are willing to spend an hour or two across the street having a few beverages while you wait.

in grad school, first day on the job as a pizza delivery guy (Powelton Pizza), I could not manage carrying the various items and the pizza delivery stay-hot bag, so I turned the pizza vertical to get out the door... I believe that nearly 20 years later, this story is still told to new delivery guys, although I do not believe it is a necessary part of the "how to deliver a pizza" orientation.

For an all-subway option, take the Broad Street Line south to Oregon, and walk two blocks south to Talk of the Town (3020 South Broad Street 215-551-7277). They make a fantastic "flipped not chopped" steak, akin to Steve's Prince of Steaks (but I find them to be bteeter than Steve's, which is saying a lot). They are open till 2am, and if you catch a train rigth away, you should have time to sit down and eat your sandwich and then take the Subway back to 30th street. For those in Philly that have never been here, put it on your "must try" list.

One month later, I went to Cubby's for a cheesesteak, having heard fromsome it was better than Delassandro's across the street. I found it to be quite similar to Delassandro's in appearance and the manner in which the steak was chopped (small pieces), but found Cubby's to be less greasy, and much more tasty. Fresh roll, nice wait staff, free refills on the drinks. Perhaps I am becoming a Cheesesteak snob, but Steve's, John's, and Geno's are all better. Good quality meat, with little gristle... 1 toothpick.

two weeks later and they are still closed... this is not a good sign...

Nah, it's ok, smirk away and do the dance (and please post photos)! It was not only a good eating experience, but I also got to know some folks in the NYC eGullet forum. Btw the fowl was squab and tasted like ground beef cooked without draining the grease. It was served on small circles of iceberg lettuce folded over to make squab/lettuce tacos. Finding the place was not easy, and I still question the decision to take 24 people from 53rd & 7th to Mott and Pell for a 6:30 reservation on a Friday evening, but a fun time was had by all.
