    Breakfast 2023

I roasted some chicken legs to take to work for lunch. And some for Moe's breakfast served with toasted baguette.
  2. Today's early morning bake. Dough was started with a "yeast levain" on Wednesday night and then into the fridge for a 72 hour cold fermentation. Taken out of the fridge last night and left on the counter overnight from 8:00 PM until 4:00 AM this morning. Baked four baguettes and two mini boules. Sliced for breakfast.

    Breakfast 2023

Might not be the healthiest breakfast, but Moe was happy. I had been promising to make him his favourite cookie. And today was the day. The recipe -"Best Oatmeal Cookies" - was from the Toronto Star 1984.
  5. Best Bunny. Tail and ears. Started two 500g (flour) batches yesterday morning. One for the pizza and the other I baked two Batons last night before bed. Sliced one this morning for breakfast.

    Dinner 2023

I hadn't baked a pizza in the Ooni recently so I started a batch of dough this morning. Normally I leave the dough in the fridge for a day or two for a longer cold fermentation, but this was a same day bake. Forgot to take a photo before cutting so it doesn't look as pretty.

    Breakfast 2023

Moe mentioned Congee last night so I made a pot this morning for breakfast. With pork meatballs. I used turkey broth instead of water.

Okay, I would eat that. I bet it would be wonderful served over mashed potatoes too. Presalted a NY Strip Steak yesterday and grilled it tonight. Moe and I shared it. I offered to make roasted potato wedges to go with the steak and salad, but Moe said he would be happy with just the salad.

    Breakfast 2023

Made Moe a breakfast sandwich. Homemade sausage, topped with cheddar cheese and a fried egg. When I made the burgers last night I mixed a little ground pork into the beef and had just enough ground pork leftover to make a breakfast sausage patty.

Kerry, I work just south of Duncan and I live just north of Mill Bay. Easy dinner tonight. Burgers.

It is highway driving, with five lights and if I hit all green lights I am sometimes home in 10 minutes. The dark shapes are Kalamata olives.

    Dinner 2023

Tried a new recipe tonight. Definitely a keeper. We both thought it was wonderful. And so easy. I didn't leave work until 5:15, got home just before 5:30 and we were eating before 6:15. Recipe is from Fifty Shades of Chicken A Parody in a Cookbook. Looks like a lot of good recipes all with suggestive titles. The one I decided to go with had one of the more tame titles "Flattered Breasts". Would definitely make again. I had intended to make Pasta Aglio E Olio as the side, but the sauce on the chicken was so good I decided to just increase it slight and serve the chicken and the sauce over the pasta.

    Breakfast 2023

Made Moe a sundried cherry tomato and cheddar omelette. Found these semi dry cherry tomatoes at a specialty store in Victoria and will pick up another jar next time we go into town. Amazingly good.

    Dinner 2023

It is those potato pancakes that I want. Although I would be happy with the red cabbage too. Halibut fish and chips on the menu tonight. Beer battered with twice fried fries.
  18. @PatrickT, that is where having some experience comes in handy. Some doughs just take longer or don't act the way one expects them too. Looks like your patience paid off. Beautiful loaf and the crumb is also very nice. Sourdough batch started last Friday and went into the fridge until Tuesday night. Left on the counter until 4:00 AM yesterday morning. I started a biga on Tuesday night and made the dough yesterday morning. It was ready to go late afternoon. Baked eight baguettes. Both batches were baked for a friend. I think this was the most bread I've baked in one day.

    Dinner 2023

I made a kind of cheater version of a chicken curry and Aloo Gobi together in one pan in the oven. I got the idea from Andy’s East Coast Kitchen. I used the combination of spices to make the curry powder that I would normally use in a chicken curry and mixed it with olive oil, grated ginger and two garlic cloves to make a paste. I made just enough for dinner. Two chicken legs and two thighs, a sliced white onion, cauliflower and a couple of potatoes cut into eights. Toss all of the ingredients with the paste, salt and pepper and placed in a shallow casserole dish , drizzled with a little more olive oil and roasted in a 475°F oven for about 45 to 50 minutes. Turned the chicken and the potatoes once. Near the end I added a little homemade chicken broth. Finished with chopped cilantro and served with basmati rice. Was surprising very good. Moe loved it. Definitely a keeper and the perfect way to have curry on a work night.

Neither of us wanted a big dinner tonight so I kept it simple and made a favourite , tuna pate, and served it with little slices of baguette.

    Breakfast 2023

Moe wanted last night's leftover soup for breakfast with the little sourdough roll baked this morning. Buttered.
  25. Fed my starters yesterday morning and made three Levains each with 55g of discard. Made three doughs last night, two with 1000g of flour added and one with 600g. Kept one of the 1000g batches out on the counter over night and baked this morning. The other two went into the fridge and Matt took the smaller one out this morning so he can make pizza later. The other one will stay in the fridge for a day or two. Today's Sourdough bake. One oval, four baguettes and a little roll.
