  1. Summerhill Pyramid Winery - Ehrenfelser 2004 I bought a few bottles of this on a recent trip through the area....strong hints of grapefruit. Really good on a hot day.
  2. Im planning on going to Parkside soon also....I've never been, but the menu looks great. Sorry to hijack this thread, but can anyone recommend a good limo company? It's a special occasion and I would like to hire a limo to take us to and from dinner. Thanks!
  3. I was at Go Fish yesterday...line up was retarded. I just wanted to let you all know they had salmon tacos on the specials board! My wife tried one and I sampled it....it was awesome.
  4. I've never had a patty....just a fillet.
  5. My wife and I have an unhealthy obsession for fish burgers. We live in N. Van and go to Browns quite a bit and have the fish burgers there as they are very tasty. They usually use fresh halibut and have some kind of delicious mystery sauce....highly recommended! Anyway, does anyone have other suggestions?
  6. Calling all entrepreneurs: Vancouver needs more pretzels damn it!!!

  8. I've only been to 2!
  9. That's Stephen Starr...I lived in Philly for a few years and his restaurants look amazing...pretty damn good food too. Buddakan was a real treat...there is a HUGE Buddha statue overlooking a bunch of tables on the lower floor...there is a swirling staircase that takes you up to the 2nd floor...pretty amazing stuff.... www.buddakan.com As for Vancouver restaurants that look good, the back room at Chambar is pretty cool. I'm not sure why Vancouver is so lagging in style...alot could be learned from Philly's dining scene actually. There are many restaurants there that would do very well if duplicated here. Jones for instance...it's very cool and has great food, but you don't have to pay through the nose for it! Philly's dining scene is really underrated actually....totally blows Vancouver out of the water.
  10. It doesn't exist ...at least not that I have found. The search shall continue...
  11. I haven't been lately....sorry to hear about your bad time there. Whenever I have gone it has been outstanding.
  12. Back from my trip... We stayed at Ambrosia B&B which was fantastic. HIGHLY recommended! http://www.ambrosiavictoria.com/ Lunch was at the Canoe Club: Very good Pale Ale. We had calamari and a margharita pizza which were both very tasty. For dinner we went to Cafe Brio: http://www.cafe-brio.com Dinner was great. The room was very lively for a Sunday night...I would certainly go back. Our appetizer was Tartare of Albacore Tuna. For dinner, I had tagliatelle with braised rabbit leg and my wife had Potato Gnocchi with morels & fiddlehead ferns. We both loved our food. They have a great wine list as well. eGullet came through big time! Thanks for all the great suggestions!
  13. sorry to go off topic here, but I need to book a room also! What are some nice places to stay? I haven't been to Victoria in about 10 years so I'm really out of the loop! I've been looking at these........ http://www.fairmont.com/FA/en/CDA/Home/Sec...75%2C%2C00.html http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/YYJMC http://www.dominion-hotel.com/index.html http://www.laurelpoint.com/#
  14. all the suggestions are much appreciated!
  15. I'll be in Victoria Sunday night with the wife....we are wondering where to go? I've seen lots of Victoria threads, but there doesn't really seem to be a clear cut choice. We prefer fun, active restaurants such as Chambar & Le Regalade. Thanks for any suggestions!
  16. Just a question - does service sloooowwwwwwww mean the food took a long time or that you weren't greeted quickly, drinks left empty, plates not cleared etc. ← Most of those things...we were not greeted promptly when we arrived...we stood around at the entrance for a few minutes patiently waiting (we had an 8:30 reservation). When we were greeted our table was not ready so we sat at the bar for about 5 mins. Our order was taken promptly, but it took quite awhile to get our appetizers and entrees. It was very busy though, so this was understandable. After we were finished dinner, at least 10-15 minutes went by before our plates were cleared. Dessert came quickly as did the bill so that was nice. Overall, the amazing food made up for the lacking service and I'll be back.
  17. well, the food was great but the service was SLOOOOWWWWWWWW. Overall, a positive experience and I'll be back. Thanks guys.
  18. I'm planning on going in about 30 mins.......but I can still bail! PLEASE let me know ASAP! THANKS!!!
  19. I'm going for dinner there on Monday night and was wondering where to go for drinks afterwards in the neighbourhood? ← the media club is close by....might be some live music there on monday.
  20. My wife is Persian so I get LOTS of good Persian chow. My fav Persian place is Kash Cool in North Van. I've also heard that the Pink Elephant is very good but haven't been yet. There's also a great take out place on Lonsdale called Yaas Bazaar. It's pretty cheap and damn tasty!
  21. You can't be serious. I phoned them ahead of time and made sure it was cool I brought my own cake. They didn't mind at all. If they had minded, I wouldn't even have pressed the issue.
  22. I brought the cake b/c it was my wife's bday....and the cakes from Sutton Place are sooooo good!
  23. Reporting back... The place was packed and very hopping when we showed up at 8:30pm. We were seated in the back room which I thought was a little too bright, but it was not a distraction. Ladies ordered vodka tonics and the guys had Leffe's which was a very tasty brew indeed! For appetizers we had mussels Congolaise which were cooked with fresh tomato, smoked chilli and cilantro with a touch of coconut cream and lime. They were extremely tasty...as were the pomme frites on the side. The ladies also ordered a salad of some sort which they said was great. For dinner, 3 of us had the elk loin, 1 had the lamb and 1 had the duck. All were exceptional. The lamb seemed to be the crowd favourite although I didn't try it myself. With dinner we had a couple of nice bottles of Cab from Spain. I had brought a birthday cake from the Sutton so that was dessert. All in all, a very fun evening...too fun in fact. (I had a vicious hangover yesterday). The service was very good...they could have been a little more attentive but they certainly do not rush you. It must have been after 11 by the time we left. I'll be back very soon to try something else on the menu. Overall, I highly recommend it. I can say with certainty that it's my new favourite restaurant. The noise might bother some, but that's just the way I like it!
  24. much thanks for the suggestions, I will report back when the hangover wears off (mondayish probably)
  25. I have no idea what you just said
