  1. The yoghurt drink being referred to is "doogh" Personally, I can't stand it either...all Persians I know absolutely love it though. Definitely an "acquired" taste.
  2. You don't see too many grams and gramps in there...It's pretty loud. You don't have to yell at your table, but you do have to speak up quite a bit. I was having dinner at another French place in West Van (forget name) one night and the table next to us was 4 geezers. They were talking about their dislike of La Regalade due to it being too loud for them.
  3. Must be Steamrollers...I don't believe Steamworks offers a burrito. If they do, stay FAR FAR AWAY! They can't even make a decent chicken burger. I can only imagine their burritos.
  4. It does?

  6. My wife and I are going on Saturday and I'd like to know if there are any recommendations on the menu from the eGulleters?
  7. Nick's on Commercial Drive
  8. So, who's got the best ahi? I was at Chambar not too long ago and had the tuna there...it was quite good, but nothing spectacular. In the summer I had the tuna at Fresco in Kelowna and it was phenomenal but I need a local joint for tasty tuna!
  9. Odd, I was at the Cannery a few months ago and it was terrible. As for the Beach House though, I agree that it is top notch. They don't get enough love on this forum.
  10. There's plenty of restaurants in the city where you can have an intimate discussion...I go to Chambar because I like the loud atmosphere. I really don't think this city has enough rocking establishments with great food. Chambar is one of them, and I don't think they should change a bit.
  11. I think a louder place would probably suit the group I'm going with...Is there any places downtown that are similar to Chambar in noise? La Regalade is pretty loud too now that I think about it...
  12. I have the big 29th coming up...was thinking about Chambar as it is a fun, lively place for a birthday party. However, I would like to try something new. Is Cru a good spot for a bday? It will be a fairly small bash...about 8 people. Other suggestions would be most welcome!
  13. There's a very good Greek resaurant in New West...Taverna Greka http://www.taverna.ca/ edit: I should mention it's been at least 2 years since I've dined there so I can't say for sure if it is still good.
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions! I checked out Banana Leaf...it was quite good...nothing spectacular mind you. It really is just good, affordable food. The best dishes were the springrolls, boneless chicken curry with rice and the green beans w/chilis. It was all very tasty. I'd order any of these 3 again.
  15. I'm aware of Parkside, Cafe De Paris and Bin, but I'm looking for other suggestions. It looks like I'll be moving to the West End soon from the shore and I need to know the goods! Also, I'm in the area tonite and need a good suggestion. If this thread has been done before please point me in the right direction. Thanks!
  16. My fav main this year was at Le Regelade. It was roast lamb in a really killer wine sauce...hope it's on the board next time!
  17. Portion was perfect for me. My buddy is a bigger eater than I and he wished the sandwich was a little larger. If you're starving, I would pass.
  18. Saturday Night - Awesome Greek place on Lonsdale called Mythos Greek Taverna. I had the roast lamb and my wife had the Mousaka. We always enjoy ourselves at this place...great food and a nice place to have a meal. Last night - ChongQuing on Commercial and 12th....had the ginger beef, peanut wontons, cashew prawns, mixed vegetable fried noodle and hot and sour soup. I'm not sure why this place never gets mentioned on this forum....the food is always outstanding. Today for lunch I went to Suzette's Deli on Dunsmuir and Richards....or is it Pender and Richards? Anyway, killer sandwich as usual. I had the fresh chicken breast today.
  19. Let me know how everything was (service included) ← Had lunch there Friday, and it was great! It came with an excellent Caesar Salad. The Prime Rib itself was very flavorful and tender and was served with gravy, horseradish and dijon. Beer was $7, Prime Rib Sandwich was $15, so after tax and tip it was close to $30. A little pricey for lunch I think, but I'll be going back. Edit: Service was also top notch.
  20. Looks tasty! I think I'll give it a try today.
  21. How can donuts be overrated? Who exactly is rating them too highly? I can't say I've ever heard someone, let alone groups of people rave about how awesome donuts are...I mean they are good, but they certainly aren't overrated. edited so BCinBC understands
  22. Try Bouchons if you feel like French...great food there. Bummer about Fresco.
  23. *shudder*

    Vij's

I've only been to Vij's once, but the food was great. If I didn't live in North Van, I'd be there more often. I could definitely do without the long waits though. I would love to see reservations accepted.
