  1. I had the Sutton Place Hotel make my wedding cake and it was very good. Go see Wolfgang, he'll take care of you.
  2. reef on main has a few rums... http://www.thereefrestaurant.com cocktails: http://www.thereefrestaurant.com/Vancouver...us/drinks_b.gif
  3. Calgary is not New York and the Russian Tea Room is long gone.
  4. Habit - good as always...love the halibut and chicken wings The Main - first time there...I had a pepperoni/mushroom/fresh tomato pizza which was excellent. My buddy had the roast lamb which he devoured. Will go back! Sweet Revenge-Very cool dessert place. Had killer apple pie with ice cream...decent indian chai tea.
  5. I've been meaning to check this place out as it is within walking distance of my place...anyone been lately? http://www.tomatofreshfoodcafe.com/

Who cares what the servers are wearing? It's a casual place...it only makes sense that the servers look casual. You guys should stick to Yaletown where all the servers stick to their yuppie uniforms.
  7. There's recently been a change of head chefs there has there not?
  8. Not a chance. I do like Ukrainian food a lot but the cuisine does not lend itself well to a fine dining environment.
  9. Really? I find that the entree is usually the standout dish at most restaurants. However, I do see your point as I find the entrees at Chambar to be hit and miss.
  10. In my opinion, Nu is easily one of the most overrated restaurants in the city. Up a few posts, FannyBay lays it out perfectly. The restaurant does not serve good food. It is tasteless. The menu is just plain weird for summer. I've tried the veal cheaks, beef bourguinonne and tuna steak. If bland is your thing, Nu is for you! The place is great for a drink on the deck and nothing more.
  11. I never saw it but we already know their answers: Lumiere, West, C

    Salt

Just got back from Salt. Service was not an issue as we arrived at open (4:30pm). Overall, everything was great. My wife and I were starving when we arrived....unfortunately, we left a little hungry and I've got some chicken wings on the go as I type this. I would not suggest Salt for dinner but I will return for a glass of wine and some killer meat & cheese.
  14. Any indian recommendations on south main? I've seen a place called Nirvana around Main & Broadway but never tried it.
  15. do not miss Fresco in Kelowna! http://www.frescorestaurant.net/menus_dinner.php
  16. I cannot understand the love for Toshi...their rolls are jacked with mayo which is quite disgusting. They have good tuna and salmon but their rolls are very sub par.
  17. I was at Nyala a couple of weeks ago on Main and King Ed...I wasn't aware that it had moved as I've just moved to the 'hood. It was not bad...nothing too special. My wife and I had a curry dish (chicken I think) and a vegetable dish. The chicken was quite good...the other dish was highly forgettable. She enjoyed it much more than I did I think. I doubt I'd return as the service was very slow/unattentive. Also, the bread they served was very spongy and tasteless....perhaps it's supposed to be this way? I'm not sure as it was my first forray into Ethiopian cuisine.
  18. Money talks I guess eh? To address my previous post about avoiding this place like the plague...it was in reference to the Yaletown crowd as well as the fact that the owners also run Glowbal and Coast. In my opinion, those two restaurants are horrible. I cannot stand the pretentious Yaletown crowd and design in these restaurants. If the food was good, I could get past it, but that's not even the case. Thank God for the South Main 'hood!
  19. Thanks for that...I'll avoid this place like the plague.
  20. La Cucina is often overlooked but it is fantastic. Stay away from the pastas and order one of their meat dishes. I had a New York steak with peppercorn sauce the last time I was there and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had.
  21. Last three have been in south Main area as I have just moved over there. Toshi-1/2 block from my place so I can't complain too much. Tuna tataki was killer. Not the best sushi in the city by any means, but will be back. Budapest-Pretty good...there were three of us so we shared a platter. Lots of schnitzels. Get the fried bread appetizer!!! Habit-Great halibut and chicken wings. Beat salad was weak. Great wine. Reminds me of a bigger Bin...food at Bin is better but I'll definitely be back since I can walk there.
  22. Palki is quite good. My wife and I get takeout there once in awhile. Handi in West Van is even better in my opinion. http://www.handi-restaurant.com/index.html
  23. If you're looking for French, check out Le Crocodile.
