  1. I've done that! Unfortunately, you're eventually left with a thin film of grease in the pool. ewwwwwwwwwww. Pretty 'narly
  2. Cool! The Mr. is in that area as I type. He's been instructed to bring home gelato.
  3. ditto on the cast iron I love my plastic grater/slicer combo I picked up at the Asian market for $3.99---works like a champ, and so much easier to clean than the big, expensive metal mandolines. I have an IKEA grater, too. It attaches to the top of a small, oval shaped bowl--perfect for grating parmesan--goes right in the bowl--which also has a Tupperware-type top.
  4. wow...really looking forward to the article...and the show. What endurance!
  5. We made these x-large sized and called them bye-byes...only one per customer (we are not so lucky to have Tommy's industrial strength toilet) this is a Dale DeGroff recipe: 2 oz. Aged Rum 3/4 oz. Curacao (or Triple sec) 3/4 oz. lime juice 1/4 oz. Orgeat Syrup (or almond syrup) Dash of Angostura Bitters I usually serve this with a lime 'cause I do not like maraschino cherries
  6. From Big Night: "Sometimes the spaghetti likes to be alone" Not really food related, but I've always loved this: In 1956 the New York Times said in an ad : "Salesmgr: Intagible exp, must be able to effectively work at top mgmt level and effectively understand "Big business problems. Should be able to handle 12 martinis"
  7. We'll be headed to Nantucket mid/late-Sept for a wedding (which is also on our anniversary). There are many great places to eat, I know-- we have connections through the groom at the pearl and Boarding House, so we'll definitely be eating there. I'm just looking for any requests or experiences. This is our first time to visit.
  8. 2 soy sauce packets a bottle of water on my desk (always) darjeeling tea, white tea life savers, and breath mints
  9. Thanks for the review...I've been wondering how that happy hour deal is.
  10. I decided to have a look in the fridge we have here at the office: 3 Budweisers with "born on" dates from 2002 and 2 Doc Otis bottles (the local Bud distributer is a client). And one very lonely Fat Tire. yikes.
  11. The last beer lurking in the fridge is a bottle of Shiner Blonde. I'm sure my husband will polish it off tonight after he mows the lawn.
  12. Yep, I used to eat at pizza place that had "drink you way around the world". Once you tried all the (import) beers they had--they'd put your name on plaque they had up on the wall. There's a diner type restaurant in my neighborhood that I've been eating at for the past 10+ years---I've worked my way through their menu at least twice. I like the idea. There's a new Cuban/Caribbean place that I'm currently working through.
  13. When I last visited my friend who lives in Hell's Kitchen, she had just picked up a burrito from the mexican food restaurant in her neighborhood--run by a Korean family. She satisfies her Tex-Mex fix there and says it's not bad. On a related note, there used to be a restaurant in Austin called Cafe Chino--a Mexican/Chinese restaurant. Very bizarre. All dishes came with a choice of fried or Spanish rice. Chips and hot sauce along with fried wontons and hot mustard sauce. Didn't last very long.
  14. Whoppers. It's not even 10am...I was saving them for after lunch. damn.

    Lillet

On the rocks, sometimes with a splash of soda for me. I live in Texas, and my local liquour store sells the rouge. I've never tried it, but now's as good a time as any to give it a whirl (after looking up some recipes that use it).
  16. some sort of cheese, wrapped in a tortilla and nuked...served with whatever sauce I can find in the fridge. Most recently it was smoked gouda, sprinkle of brown sugar, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla and nuked until cheese melts/sugar carmelizes. ....sometimes just a buttered, warm tortilla, dipped in Frank's Red Hot Sauce.
  17. salt and pepper shrimp

    wasabi

oh say, wasabi and peanut butter Close: I had some wasabi peanuts at a party this weekend. Peanuts with a crisp (kind of jordan almond texture) almost sweet, wasabi coating. They wasabi zing was similiar to wasabi peas. Interesting, but probably not something I would buy myself. They looked like light green peanut M&M's Fortunately, the hostess kept them in the can with the label, so no one would pop a handful...
  19. Thanks! I found a website for A la Lucie Roy and Nadine's. Both look good. thanks again for your recs!
  20. whew! I look forward to it. I was beginning to think I was stuck with Applebee's or something of that ilk.
  21. mmmm pimento cheese. It's been ages since I've made that. thanks for the ideas
  22. Heading to a friend's house for the Derby...fabulous mint juleps are taken care of by the very qualified host. Beer cheese is popping up on my searches...or maybe something with bourbon in it? Anyone cooking anything special?
  23. I'm headed to Lexington in a few weeks, and although I'll be cooped up inside a hotel conference room most of the time, I think I'll be able to venture out for a meal or two. One breakfast and one dinner, most likely. I'm not sure yet what part of town yet. thanks in advance...
  24. I assume they just had several FOP's (Friends of the Program) or employees flood the review page.
  25. exactly...this is the site where PF Chang's was voted "best Chinese restaurant" BigBoy---I thought about that...who would open a restaurant in Austin and call it Crimson? I heard the owner is a 'Bama alum...
