    Confused.....

Or someone ( who shall remain nameless) putting the Wusthofs in the dishwasher.
  2. I've been reading since the first day. I've wanted to post many times, but couldn't find the words. A simple THANK YOU will have to suffice.
  3. I enjoy Ararat on Duval, only because it's been around forever, and it feels like you are sitting in a tent when you are inside. If you are claustrophobic, this place is NOT for you! The food is great there, I think. Haven't been to Alborz, although I keep meaning to go...
  4. Maltesers Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars Crisps: all flavors ( or...."flavours..") Supermarket tea, specially PG Tips and Yorkshire Gold Cider from Somerset Raw milk cheese from Neil's Yard ( just make sure it has been aged 60 days..get a cert. saying that) Twiglets Hovis Malt Loaf Humbugs and Treacle Toffees Sticky Toffee Pudding
  5. I'm in the retail food business. Thank goodness it's not my own business: I work for a large grocery store. I'd be fired if I reacted to customers' requests that way. The customer is always right....she may not shop there often, but you can be sure that she will tell all her friends about the attitude in that bakery. Word gets around.
  6. That's kind of interesting, in a "we've had too much wine" conversation after dinner! You EXpress the coffee, so you'd think it would be expresso. But it's made quickly, as in ESpresso, the Italian translation. Or wait....ESpresso is Italian for "express".... Hmmmm..... Now I'm totally confused. Or is it...cornfused???
  7. I've had the venison, duck and salmon. All three were good. I don't think you can go wrong there. Have a good time!
  8. Mirabelle.... Oh, did somebody already suggest that??? All kidding aside, Mirabelle has great food AND supports the community by hosting dinners for all sorts of non-profits: Project Transitions and KLRU to name just two. And the food's really good!
  9. Probably anchovies.... Don't all mysterious flavors end up being anchovies?? And where does it say "Vegetarian" on the ketchup bottle?
  10. TOO clever, John...... Enjoyed that one!!
  11. I'll be in NO May 5 and 6. Any of you guys up for an egullet gettogether? The Sicilian sounds great.....
  12. Actually, the "Water water everywhere..." is from the Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge, who was high on opium at the time of writing...his own personal hell.
  13. Susan, that is truly disgusting.....!
  14. An all-you-can- eat shellfish buffet. I either have to starve, or eat and have my body break out in itchy hives and my throat close up.

    Lubbock

Ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!
  16. Don't forget the butter....gotta have butter with bagette. Regarding bagels, I buy the H & H frozen here in Austin. They are better than the local bagels.
  17. Austin has MGM Grocery in Richcreek Plaza on Burnet Road. It's mostly dry goods, with some frozen. He has a good selection of rice and frozen naan. You have to be cautious about the packaged stuff because lots of it is out of date. He seems to have numerous lines of curry sauces and chutneys. I like to go there to browse and to talk to the owner who is very friendly and helpful.
  18. Cast your votes in the Austin Chronicle's Restaurant poll HERE

    Bouley

Well poo to that.... You're somebody if you are paying the bill.
  20. Austin won a Walmart fight recently: managed to keep one out of our environmentally sensitive area in the southern part of the city. However, just read that they are BACK, and ready to fight for that spot again. Walmart and Starbucks... If we'd all just support our local businesses , these guys wouldn't be mushrooming all over the place.
  21. I was given an Asian rice cooker. That took care of the rice problem. Makes perfect rice every time. Also I've found some rices that cook better than others. I use true Indian Basmati for the fluffiest rice around. It just cooks up fluffy every time. I'm nervous around fresh, expensive tuna steaks. I almost always overcook them so I've given up on them. Total waste of money! When they are overcooked...well, you might as well open a can of tuna....same texture. Ick.
  22. Darn; that's a job that I probably will never have. I think johnnyd wins hands down for having had the most interesting job of anyone who has ever posted on egullet!
  23. Thanks for dropping by CM today and introducing yourselves. These are two of the cutest guys you'll ever want to meet!! I can't believe we have to give them back to Portland...
  24. Go to Chambery: to L'Essentiel. One star. The chef has an apartment with three bedrooms for his stagieres. My son did a one month stage there. Chef Bouvier has anywhere from 5 to 9 stagieres at a time working for him...for room and board. Check out the website. You'll work yourself silly, but you'll survive. I ate there: it's amazing.
  25. Hang on...Cooper's is in Llano, right? Or are there two? I vote for this THREAD to be the BEST of egullet, hands down. The photos are exquisite. Who do we tell about this>???????
