I have been there a few times, it was pretty good. The restaurant is in Bogota and is only a couple minutes from Teaneck.

[service-related and non-restaurant-specific issues might be be discussed on the "General" board of egullet. ] I do not understand how the service a restaurant provides is a non-restaurant specific issue.

Went to Kuma in Paramus around 6:15 pm on a weeknight. The place was 3/4 empty but they seemed to be making a lot of take out orders. after being seated and given menus the waiter does not approach our table for 20 minutes, even though we tried to signal him several times. After another 20 minutes served the first of 2 appetizers which was just an edamame. Then another 20 minutes elapsed while waiting for a sushi appetizer. Meanwhile, another table who arrived after us and ordered just entrees were served. I asked what happened to our sushi appetizer which was a mere 1 roll and told it was on its way. Customers were coming and going picking up take out orders and the sushi chef was busy. At this point (after another 10 minutes), I had enough and left the money for only for the edamame and walked out. anyone else have experiences to tell about

I agree their chicken dishes are horrible as are their shrimp. It is really hit or miss. If I had ordered the chicken my first time, I likely would have not gone back as it has the consistency of chewing gum.

Is the food at River Palm in Edgewater better prepared than the food in Fair Lawn or do you prefer Edgewater due to its vibrant atmosphere.

I can found Quiche Cafe in Teaneck to be pretty good.

I have enjoyed Veggie Heaven in Teaneck on Cedar Lane. They do a very good business. They have many dishes that contain soy and other vegetable type dishes that are in the texture of meat. The Mongolian Beef (all vegetarian) was very good but I did not care for their "chicken and shrimp" dishes. Also found their soups very good. Please inform of other good vegetarian restaurants.

The quality of the fish at Hiro was very inconsistent never reaching above good (on a few occassions), with poor sashimi and yes it was prepared by Hiro himeself.

I have been to Miyoshi in Hackensack where the slogan is eat more, pay less. I find it to be Quantity over Quality. Do not recommend.

[Dodge, have you been to The River Palm? Give it a shot, I think you will love it. They have 3 locations but our favorite is the one in Edgewater. ] Just saw this post. I have been to River Palm in Edgewater once and did enjoy.

My comment "I agree" was to acknowledge Rail Paul's opinion.

I agree if it was no good it should be in the paper and detailed as it was so we do not waste our time there. However, I personally enjoy finding out about new places to dine and find it hard to so from the Record.

In fact, Ngatti, I had some of the worst Sashimi I ever had at Hiro. While the sushi used fresh tuna, etc, it was obvious that they used the older fish, far less fresh fish for the sashimi. I never really liked the old East (when you had to take your shoes off) but I will say East was far superior to Hiro.

HERE we go again. Why would the Record put a review of a restaurant and give it a half star. In No way am I saying the Record should inflate reviews, rather if a restaurant sucks then simply go to another restaurant where the food is edible and readers may enjoy going. ALso the review gave me NO indication that the reviewere ate at the restaurant more than once, as they say they do.

Used to live in Teaneck. The sushi I had at Hiro was below average. Shumai too far for me.

Is Wild Ginger known for its excellent cooked dishes or is the sushi far superior to other places. I saw a takeout menu which showed the tuna rolls at $6 a roll. Seems high to me. Is it this good? - I have found the sushi quality to be very good at Kiku in Paramus, although I only go during non-peak hours. Any other very good sushi places in Bergen or any where else in NJ besides Nikko

I suggest Frankie's Deli in New Milford or Clemente's in South Hackensack.
-
Thanks for the responses. I am looking further inte Esty Street and America as I am not a fan of French. I enjoyed the food at Cafe Matisse in the past but the service was incredibly slow and detracted from my experience.
-
Rail Pail Great Post. Seems like you were pretty patient. I am wondering was there a long wait between the appetizers and entrees. 30 minutes (less, more??
-
Thank you. Does anyone know if Esty Street has a website. I have not found it, please inform if you are awear of it.

[Our relatively full plates were cleared and we were not even questioned about whether there was a problem with the food. ] This is why I question why if the restaurant wants happy customers - why not ask them at this point not on their way out when they just want to get out.
-
perhaps arrogant and derogatory were too strong on my part. my opinion that if you really wanted to help the customer and make him/her happy then ask them before a near empty plate is thrown out not to ask her afterward.

what are the best restaurants in this area. it is not important if they serve wine

ROSIE: gLAD You liked Lou's response. I found Courtzz post informative while Lou's was arrogant and derogatory to Courtzz.

[it's important that the public knows that a restaurateur wants his customers to leave the restaurant happy.] what are you really saying here. I would assume all decent restauranteurs want this.
