  1. Gave up on the Record in terms of restaurant reviews a few months ago.
  2. [. I have to be honest, I have been to restaurants and have seen other tables order what is supposed to be Chilian sea bass but looks like something else similar. ] What is the fish you are referring to that you say looks like something else similiar.
  3. [The Pittsford Wegman's had a cleaners inside (run by Wegmans).] should have said dry cleaner
  4. I lived in Rochester, NY a few years back for 2 years. Wegman's rules there and is one of the area's largest employers. The Pittsford (an affluent suburb of Rochester just a few miles away) Wegmans was by far the best Wegmans there. While the Roch. area clearly lacks the competition that we have here, people did come from all over (over an hour away) to the Pittsford Wegman's. The Pittsford Wegmans was nicer than the other Wegman's in the Rochester area. Some Wegmans in Roch were not very good. The setup of the Pittsford Wegman's is very similiar to the Bridgewater Wegmans. _ did anyone else notice the truffles (in mushroom section - I am not familiar with them but always noticed their cost) They cost 699.99 per pound in Bridgewater. My wife and I were surprised that in the Pittsford Wegmans these truffles were in a case and were locked while in Bridgewater they were not locked. I recall seeing the truffles priced sometimes up to 999.99 per pound in Pittsford. Pittsford store also carries White Hots which are well known white hot dogs in Rochester. The Pittsford Wegman's had a cleaners inside (run by Wegmans).
  5. [i'd be willing to travel 15 minutes for that kind of place. ] 15 only 15 minutes. 30 minutes easy if not more
  6. Went to Sergeantsville last night. Thanks Rosie for making me aware of it. Very good food and very reasonable. We had on hummus appetizer $6 (have had better hummus), shrimp and potabello mushroom appetizer $9(very good), tuna steak $20 (excellent) and a tofu "steak" $20(excellent), flourless chocolate tort $6 (very good, very rich). Also came with black bean soup (pretty good) Excellent service, nice place
  7. Went to Wegman's today. Wow. It is too bad we have nothing near this quality in Northeast Jersey. Great store.
  8. [in case you don't know how to read a map, Orangeburg is just over the new york state border. ] [i've been visiting e-gullet for several weeks now and I must say that there are some bitter and angry people that post to this site. ] Are you venting your anger at me? LOL
  9. [The owner/hostess seemed sad that more Americans haven't yet found this place, because at their previous location they had a lot of non-Koreans, but not so much at this location. ] When Koreana was in Paramus, it was often packed. I was there recently in Fort Lee and it is in quite an awkward location. I went to the Fort Lee location on Saturday night and we walked through a largely desolate mall to go to Koreana. The food was very good.
  10. Here we go again. today we are given a review from Orangeburg, NY from the review - Tuna tartare - oil obscured flavor of the fish - potatoes pecuilar taste didn't work - servers not knowledgeable about food and unable to offer guidance - crab and shrimp cigars missed the mark - goat chees flan starter pecuilar - deserts uniformly disappointing favorably reviewed were the mussels, onion rings, rib eye and chicken lobster we are just told it was enormous (no comment on good or bad) rating by Marge 3 stars
  11. Taste of Asia pricer than most Thai or Chinese. Was not impressed with the quality of their food. Thai Den in Denville is also pretty good - owned by the same owner as Thai Chef in Montclair but is the size of Thai Chef when it originally opened. When I was there it was not too crowded unlike the heavy crowds in Montclair.
  12. [that corn was from Georgia] How do you know this - what is your source? If this is true then so much for those Jersey Fresh signs.
  13. why blue fish from what I have seen this is a very cheap fish (at least in the fish markets I shop) why not a better quality fish like Tuna or Sea Bass
  14. Glenn - if you are in Jersey City, they have a farmers market at Journal Square. I have not been there in a while but do recall a nice selection.
  15. One of them I grilled on the barbecue and one piece I boiled. Perhaps I just picked the wrong ears of corn but I have found a place on Dey Road in Cranbury, NJ to be very good. The peaches from Ridgewood were good. There was an article in the Record yesterday giving the rundown on Bergen Co and neighboring markets (including how many farmers at each, etc.
  16. bought corn from Farmers Market in Ridgewood today. Worst corn I have had all summer. (not sweet at all) I will try Closter
  17. [Yesterday we feasted at Ocean King in Livingston. ] How was Ocean King. Good fish selection?
  18. I went to East Saigon once for lunch and have not been inclined to return. Found it ok for a 20 minute lunch. I pass it many times and often it is empty during prime dinner hours even on weekends. I was surprised that it got 2.5 diamonds from the Record and a Good rating by the New York Times.
  19. [: There was a significant period of time after Foy left and before Peter took over. During that time I also heard that things had suffered. ] Peter - please read this comment by another poster. It seems that my comments were expressed in other way by someone else but you harp on my comment. Perhaps my friends were there during "that time". Another comment was made [ I'm told by various sources that things are now better than ever. ] To see if others tried your place recently and to confront my own statement I wrote if anyone hear tries it with the new chef please give a report
  20. [i have heard good things about Dinallo's in River Edge] - I heard the same. However, it received only 1 and half diamonds from the Record.
  21. I was surprised after reading all the negatives that it got 3 stars
  22. nothing bad just had long wait of over 15 minutes before receivng the menu and had little luck getting water refills until asking several times. thanks for recommending it
  23. Went to America tonight. Found the food excellent. Service not up to par of the food. Had an excellent gazpacho (made with yellow tomatoes and topped with crabmeat). Also had the tuna very nice. Everyone enjoyed their meal the others had crab cakes, barbequed chicken and sea bass.
  24. I had 3 decent meals there when I lived in Bogota, but far from great. I found their Chicken Cacciatiore and their Chilean Sea Bass (a special at the time) good. Since moving 3 miles from there, I have not been back. I too am wondering how Food TV put them on their show as a best of?
  25. Kosher Nosh in Glen Rock I have not visited yet - koshernosh.com looks good but have not been yet
