  5. I was supposed to go with the group on sat. but me and my pops couldnt waiw so we went fri. the place is owened by chinese vietnamese not koreans but the food was very good, this place will be busy, twelve bucks for all the food you can grill and until they get a licqour license free booze!
  6. Went to barclay prime last night with a chef friend after a day of looking at restaurants and drinking. It's a very good looking room, and the servers are better than the usual starr joints. we started with drinks ,I had a sidecar which was the best one I've had in a long time,The bartender knows what she's doing. We had the the kobe sliders which were really outstanding worth the 14 bucks .At this point my friend knocked over everyones drinks .Thanks to the excellent service everything was cleaned and repoured in 3 minutes.next came the oysters rock which were okay but a little dry, honestly not as good as samsom streets but a nice size. After that we had a steak tartare which was bland .I think mikey y's at rouge was the best. This was a golf ball sized piece with a slice of carpaccio .Needed an acid. next we had the chopped salad which looked like creole trinity done in a cuisinart and tasted like olive juice ,so far 1 for 4. Then what should have been the best part came, the n.y. strip .I have used Gachot meats before when I was in long island, and have toured the aging rooms there great people and product. They present a tray of nice steak knives(porche, global and lagouile etc, knives are like chef porn).Perfect rare but a little burnt but gachot steaks are still gachot steaks. skipped dessert but had port .
  7. Rhymes with Yo. Miu is like mew.
  8. My mom makes me clean those snow pea leaves all the time half goes int the trash, which is alot of waste but they are good,if you ask for "dau miu" you can usually find them try across from imperial.Awhile back when I was cooking in this city I tried to get the amish farmers to sell them to us ,When I went to one of their farms I found out they were throwing them away and told them they could sell organic dau miu for 12 bucks a pound .
  9. Andrew - aren't those snow pea leaves awesome! Unfortunately they are seasonal and not available all times of the year. I routinely get them in Cherry Hill at Hahn Ah Reum behind the Korea Garden restaurant on 70, about 10 minutes from Ben Fran. Bridge. I have also gotten them in chinatown markets. It can be tough to ID veggies in the markets in Chinatown but the trick to these leaves are the little curly-cues that eminate from the stems. That's them! Incindentally, there is a secret gem for Korean BBQ off Roosevelt Blvd at the adams ave exit. $12.50 bul ki all you can eat - all BBQ meats(raw beef short rib, marinated beef, pork chicken, gizzards, squid, fatty bacon and tripe, some kimchi and condiments - no dishes on the menu. Great people - they know me well. I have been going there for years since I was a poor medical resident. Korea Garden is not authentic wood BBQ at your table - this place is and it's called Kuk Il. You will smell for days of smoke - beware! It would be a great cheap place for PA gulleteers to meet up one day. Evan ← That place is the best, there are alot of good places like that here because of the large korean prescence.Ypu shpould also check out the places at the end of fifth at cheltenham ave.
  10. When I went to saul hs. in the 90's there was a class for meatcutting and we would dress deer for people who brought it in.even make sausage ,they didnt charge but kept some of the end product ,and I am pretty sure they sold that or gave it away .You might want to call and see if they still do that.
  11. It's right next to the old schwarzwald inn which is now a illegal korean gambling joint.

  14. It's at olney ave and about mascher, was thinking about going all day .really good cheap meal.
  15. Instead of the korean place we went to a porteguese restaurant in olney "caldas" . the qwner was suprised to see three chinese peoplein a neighborhood joint, and when my sis spoke porteguese he started pourin' some homemade wine ,vinho verde really good. for starters we had grilled quail,3 to an order wood griied really fresh, some chorirco that they flamed and some octopus salad all excelent. For entrees we had paella that had alot of seafood (whole lobster, shrimp ,calamari etc.).A fillet house style that was good but came with this weird room temp soup that had rice ,beans, shredded lettuce and dishwater.I had the feijoda? which apparently is the national dish of brazil,I've never had pig ears that tasted so good,we didnt get desserts but alot of drinks($3.25) johnny black and the totalwas eighty bucks.
  16. Thank's for the help,But pops wants to go to that koreant place that used to be a burger shack at 69th st.He's tired of cooking western food all day.
  17. It's late today and I have to go out with my dad and sister tonight,so of course I forgot to make reservations .Can any egulleters out there help me out? I actually do this alot so this would be good for anytime. I was thinking dimitri"s.
  18. Herb: I believe I've had this dish or one remarkably similar at Shiao Lan Kung, so you can still go feed that jones if you feel the need. And yes - the oysters they use are enormous, sometimes the shell is as big as my hand. But they are really delicious. ← You should try the ones steamed with XO sauce and minced pork Really good.
  19. I went last night ,sat at the bar and caught up with derrick, also met the guys who do the rappanap? oysters from virginia, everything was very good one of the best happy hours around!

  24. I just had a taco from this truck on the 5400 block of rising sun ave.The truck's name is " science center express".there are two hand lettered signs one for beef tacos for two bucks and buck fifty for pork. The beef was good but the pord was amazing, chunks of stewed pork shoulder .I thought it was a hot dog truck till I noticed ten mecican guys in line
