  1. I called PM yesterday and they assured me they have everything I could want. If they really have that wide of a selection I can see myself getting carried away and buying stuff I hadn't planned on - I'd better bring a list and limit myself! I stopped by the just-opened "Asian Seafood Market" in Longmont last night, and the owner told me she was going to try to start getting fish from the Seattle Fish Company, but she's having trouble getting them to answer their phone, too. She took my number and said she'd call me when she gets delivery sorted out. I'm excited at the prospect of not having to go very far to satisfy future sushi cravings!
  2. Thanks! Aurora is a bit of a drive for me, but it might be worth it to get raw fish worth eating!
  3. I'm planning a make-your-own sushi party and am trying to find stores that carry sushi-grade fish and other sushi products (tobiko, etc.) I have seen the Seattle Fish Company trucks delivering to Sushi Tora, but I haven't been able to get anyone to answer the phone there (Seattle Fish Company) and I'm not sure if they only do wholesale. Does anyone know where I can get some good fish? Thanks in advance!

    The Taco Truck

The other day I counted 5 taco trucks in the space of about 10 blocks on Main Street in my town (Longmont, Colorado - big hispanic population). They're everywhere! I've never tried eating from one, they look a bit scary.
  5. Wow, my collection is tiny compared to many here! I have 7, excluding books that have only a section on Indian dishes.
  6. Which Santiago's are you thinking of? I know there's one in Longmont, but it seems like there are many, because I think the one in Longmont is Santiago's VII or something similar.
  7. One of my favorites on FN was Good Eats, but the news that he's giving out less-than-accurate information kind of ruins it for me. Cook's Tour was also one of my favorites, but I've seen every episode at least four times now, and they're obviously not coming out with new ones. The first two food shows I watched, and the ones that inspired me to expand my horizons, were the Frugal Gourmet and Great Chefs (I watched both in my high school and college years.)
  8. Thanks for the welcome! Funny you mention Angkor. I noticed the sign before it opened, and have been curious about the place ever since, but I haven't managed to go. I usually have no trouble convincing my sister to go to new places with me, but her husband has a fear of unusual food and we both have young children, so there hasn't been a good time to try it. I would totally be up for an outing!
  9. I'm new here, and just wanted to add my vote for Cook's Illustrated. I agree that the recipes are sometimes repetitive (I've subscribed for 4 years now), and I don't always agree with the results of their tastings, but I love the way they describe how they decided upon certain ingredients and methods for recipes. I would like to see more ethnic dishes where they aren't afraid to suggest authentic ingredients when you can get them (they sometimes do this, but most of the time they just end up substituting lime for lemon grass, etc. Isn't lemon grass available in most grocery stores these days? Why not use it, or at least list it as an alternative ingredient?) However, a couple of their recipes have become favorites of mine, and they still come up with enough interesting recipes/tips/techniques that it's well worth the price of the subscription.
  10. Dejah, Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I'm just amazed at the food knowledge at this site - I'm having trouble staying away (when I should be working!) Aileen
  11. I'm new to the forum, and this thread is what brought me here. About 6 months ago I was looking for Sichuan peppercorns in stores (not much of a selection here in Colorado) and on the net and was unable to find them, so I gave up. A month ago my sister was scheduled to go to China for business, so I asked her to bring some back for me. While dining in a restaurant, the dish she was eating clearly included the peppercorns, so she asked the waitress to write down the chinese symbols for them so she could find them the next day while shopping. Instead, the nice woman produced a rather large plastic bag full of them and gave them to her! So, as of a week or two ago I have a large amount of EXTREMELY fragrant and strong peppercorns in my pantry. If anyone lives in Colorado (Denver or North) and would like some, or would like me to send some to them through the mail, I would gladly part with some of my stash, as it's more than I will use before they lose their zing.
  12. This is my first post here - I was so excited to find this forum! (I stumbled across it while researching Sichuan peppercorns.) I just finished reading through this thread and was surprised to find mention of La Panda II in Longmont (I live in Longmont and agree with the consensus.) I haven't been to Los Pinchones yet, but my sister, who is also a "foodie", swears that their civeche is the best in town. I was even more surprised to see Dos Hombres mentioned. I grew up in Grand Junction and used to eat there often. It was the first restaurant I ever went to without my parents along to supervise, so it holds happy memories for me. I haven't been there in at least 10 years, though, so I couldn't vouch for the quality anymore. As for 3 Margaritas, I haven't been back after ordering a burrito, finding it both bland and filled with what appeared to be canned chili, and seeing that they serve cole slaw as a side dish. I agree it would have to be better than a Denny's, though!
