  12. When you say dessert, did you mean "kuih"?? As in stuff that are posted on this thread ----->http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=44433 or else, i'd agree with PCL and save your money for the fantastic local delicasies around town.... which doesn't cost alot and taste great!
  13. If you want to know how they taste like... here's my verdict on the "okashi" thread: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=20372&st=90
  14. Oh.. they look devine... They are similar to those candied/coated almonds presume...
  15. Good point!! But I just didn't want to look like a lost little kid amidst the store.. Ooohh... is this anything like peanut m&m's???
  16. Thanks for that Alex!! So basically, the auction part is for people who are buying in bulk? What about exclusive fish... like the Fugu for example... do they sell it there?.. Actually, do people in Japan actually eat this?
  17. OK, here's the verdict... The pumpkin pocky tasted very much like pumpkin pie.. if you've ever had it... it's like sweet creamed pumpkin on a nice crunchy crust. I would definately buy it again! that's if they have any left... The All Raisin raisin cookie has a very unique texture and flavour . It is jam packed with raisins (im thinking about 55% of it) and is not too moist or too tarty in flavour. The cookie is nice and crumbly yet not too dry... has a chewy side to it as well. I tried heating it up with the oven turned off after a pre-heat of 200 degrees for about 3-4 minutes and it turned out even better ... the raisin became a tiny bit gooier and the cookie is more crisp. The Kurozato is AMAZING!! It's sooo addictive, just like Kritin mentioned. I already had about 13 of it . It does have quite a distinc flavour of burnt sugar (similar to the sugar crust of a creme brulee), which i adore!! The texture is dense and toffee- like, chewy without being soft. It can also be treated like a candy to melt in your mouth... but i prefer chewing! pictures will be added later... p.s sorry about the size of those pictures in the previous post... i'll try to downsize them...
  18. Actually, the raw egg i was talking about was actually a drink... A few guys in business suit comes to the buffet every morning during my stay at The New Otani and makes this odd drink of raw eggs and i- dont-know- what- else.... and just gulps on it as if it's a pick- me- up drink!? Have you any clue about this?
  19. One thing i don't understand, why do people eat sukiyaki with raw eggs?... and what's with people in Japan and the affiliation with raw eggs? I've seen alot of business man drinking some raw egg concoction for breakfast.... please enlighten me! Edited to say that im chewing on some kokutou caremels at the moment... and they are yum ... and addictive too!! Im on to my 6th one
  20. I stumbled across this today at the japanese grocery store... It's suppose to be limited edition I haven't tried it yet... but will report back when i do!
  21. Oooh... Ahhh... Wow.... I'd like to go to a Tsukiji (fish market??) when i travel to Tokyo again... do you always have to get there early?? Im such a lazy bone... ... and do they sell by the kilo?? Do they package it nicely for you?? Tell us more! Tell us more! Kristin, you could probably take me, when i come in Febuary... that's IF my family decides to go to Tokyo again...
  22. Look what i found.... I struggled to memorize the japanese characters of Kokuto and finally found it in the japanese grocery today... it was sad to know that that was the only thing they carried with kurozato in it and the packaging wasn't as 'chic' as the box with traditional motifs... but nevertheless, i found it! Will report back later when i have time to try it out.
  23. Look what i bought.... Inspired by the pocky thread: Inspired by this thread and torakris' <A HREF="http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=52858&st=30">foodblog</A>: and inspired by the Kurozato thread: E-gullet is making me into a okashi junkie!!
  24. Wow.. that's very interesting... i could never imagine putting candy on your face that actually helps clear out impurity... i guess this "kurozato" must be one of nature's best kept secret!
