Laab / Larb - used the "meatball" method to cook the meat. Leftover is good for breakfast Scrambled Eggs w/Laab "Egg roll" - seems weird but tastes great
  3. Another version of "Methi" per Edu - shallots, spring onions, garlic, tumeric, cumin, chili powder, tomatoes and alpha-alpha sprouts (instead of Methi). Sautee for a few minutes and then crack the eggs on top with some water and cover to steam. Plated....

  5. Chili Bean Scrambled Eggs w/Laab - a great way to use up some left over Larb. The spice helps cut through the richness of the egg. Added some Chinese horsebean chili sauce while scrambling the eggs. and while I was experimenting around... "Egg roll" - I know...looks weird, but the flavors and crisp texture of the lettuce was refreshing. The other day I made Indian Alpha-Alpha Masala Eggs - shallots, spring onions, garlic, tumeric, cumin, chili powder, tomatoes and alpha-alpha sprouts. Sautee for a few minutes and then crack the eggs on top with some water and cover to steam. Plated....

Nonblonde007, the main characteristics of the Alphonso mangoes and other are the fragrance, thin outer skin, intensity of flavor and sweetness. If you are lucky, you can purchase them for $3-$4 at certain Indian stores. If you can't find them, you can spend approx $10/each and purchase them at http://organicfruitclub.com
  12. Here is a sample of what I got from http://organicfruitclub.com. A little small, but very sweet and delicious. The skin of Alphonso mangoes is much thinner, the meat has a deeper flavor and sweetness. I highly recommend them. If you don't want to spend the money, you can occasionally find sliced canned Alphonso mangoes. However, they are packed in sugar syrup, which in my opinion ruins the flavor, though its good on ice cream or in a milkshake.
  13. Here is a sample of what I got from the site above. The skin did not turn deep yellow or golden like normal Alphonso mangoes do when they ripen (perhaps due to the irradiation?) but they tasted very sweet and delicious...just like the ones in India.

    Hardena

Wow...that looks good !! Good Indonesian restaurants are hard to find in the states, but this one sure sounds good.
  18. Went for what is turning into my weekly dinner trip to Han's Dynasty and ordered: The original spaghetti and meatballs (from the old old country) These pork meatballs were really fluffy, though apparently a different (less fluffy more hearty) version of the ones Jeff got. More Pork (leg?) - I was telling the owner about the pork butt at Four Rivers in Chinatown and he said...we have something like that (not on the menu). Indeed they do...only it is a slightly spicier, which makes it even better in my book. Now I have enough leftovers to last through the weekend. Seriously, we need to organize a eG group dinner and order the pork and meatballs. Cheers Percy

Took advantage of the weather for some grill'n Blue Cheese Burger - Stuffed with raw milk blue cheese which was warm and gooey inside. Burger brushed with some chipotle bbq sauce. Shaya, that veal looks delicious. I love Mitake mushrooms with eggs, without even realizing the health benefits.
  20. You may wish to call ahead for the pork shoulder as I am not sure they always have it ready.

Wanted to use up some Copper River Salmon, so I made this... Grilled Copper River Salmon with Roasted Corn Salsa and Avocado - the richness of the salmon and avocado was cut by the acid of the tomatoes and lime in the salsa, while the grilled corn added a crunchy texture and smoky/salty flavor.
  22. Depends on the size of the pearls and density of the foam. If pearls are too heavy, try "caviar" or put the foam on top.

Bruce, sorry to hear about your loss. Last night's dinner consisted of Insalata Caprese Thai Spice Grilled Copper River Salmon
  25. What do you mean by "Mumbai mangos"? Mumbai does not have a large mango grove, but acts as the mango clearance hub for nearby places like Ratnagiri. The ones I have on order are from Ratnagiri. Diann, maybe we can have a mango tasting when I get them. Cheers Percy
