You can bet that the Royal Indian Army wasnt drinking their Gin and Tonics with ice cubes... But that was for medicinal purposes (malaria), and medicine is supposed to taste bad. Yeah but the Gin was added so that it would taste BETTER... From the Tastings.com peice linked above:

Well, Hydrox never got it right either. Yes, Hydrox (why did they have to choose a cookie name that sounds like posionous rocket fuel?) sucks too. No, I firmly disagree with that. Some of the best Ice Cream and Gelato experiences I have ever had have centered around mint chocolate chip flavors. well you see, that's where you're wrong. seriously, most chocolate/mint applications fall short. i mean, i'll put a piece of fresh mint on *anything*. but that chemical tasting mint stuff, in bad chocolate, just isn't worth it. Well thats different. But definitely natural mint flavoring paired with chocolate is a good thing.
