  1. I think MSG symptoms are only in peoples head. MSG is used in so many can goods. Canned pastas (chef boyardee) and canned soups contain MSG and I've haven't heard of anyone complaining (at least to my knowledge) about MSG headaches after consuming those products.

    Basil Sorbet

sorry, I don't want to hijack this thread but ducphat30 when you mentioned apple pectin do you mean this or is there something else thats used for icecream and sorbet? http://www.mothernature.com/shop/sections/index.cfm/s/99367
  4. wow. thankyou very much for the recipe FWED. I do have a couple of newbie questions. When you said "60 gm of sugar for a dry caramel", do you mean just melt the sugar in a pan? and what exactly is 25 gm of glucose? I know glucose is a sugar but where would I find this or can I make it myself? thankyou
  5. So how much should one pay for bottled water in Europe? From the article, they mention £2 - £3 but is that only for the UK? Is it cheaper in restaurants in France or Italy? I would still rather pay $0 for tap.
  6. very nice review peter. Was the meal $200 for both of you including tip, tax, beverage or just for the fish?
  7. Whenever I get pho for takeout, I always pop the broth in the microwave to get it hot again and then stir in the raw beef. If you are weary about the raw beef, you can get it without it. I think on most menus its called "fresh eye of beef"? (not 100% sure) Just order the one that say well done eye of beef or something similar

    Shake Shack

I made my first trip to shake shack today. I had the shack burger and the fries. The burger was very good. It was well seasoned and had good "beef" flavor. The crinkle fries was excellent. Very hot, crispy and also seasoned. Finally someone realized unseasoned burgers and fries does not taste good. I would definitely go back again. The taxi dog looked very interesting. I think I will try that the next time I go.
  9. wow thanks for the pics. But there is something wrong with the "Poor photo of Japan's sugar showpiece" pic
  10. please tell us where exactly. Wow sea salt for $.25 Canadian.
  11. I loved his show very much. It's unfortunate he will also be remembered for something else.
  12. I really miss the fries fried with beef fat/tallow or whatever. It's just not the same.
  13. Isn't that more of a marketing approach/ploy? Red beet tartare sounds a lot better than chopped red beets. So who is going to be the first to serve a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tartare?
  14. okay, now its getting a bit crazy. Doesn't "tartare" imply a meat that is not cooked? I've never heard of the term tartare used in conjunction with watermelon or tomato..
  15. thankyou very much estufarian
  16. Hello everyone first time poster here.... I have a reservation for lunch @ J-G tomorrow. I'm very excited because it will be my first time @ J-G. I have a few questions. Is it true that lunch is $24 for 2 courses and $12 for each additional course? I know this is a stupid question, but does J-G serve wine by the glass? My friend and I are not big drinkers, so there will be no way for us to finish an entire bottle. And what dishes do you guys recommend?
