  2. The $25 menu is available only Sunday through Thursday (and then some places are closed on Monday, and the Georgian is closed on Sundays and Mondays). Edit: I see the Georgian has dropped out this time....
  3. LOL. Our waiter regaled us with his tales of being at Woodstock at age 5 and his 300 (or something) Grateful Dead concerts. And also they bait-and-switched us with the 2001 reisling on the wine list and brought us a 2002 instead. But it was a lot of fun anyway because the food and setting were nice and there were some very drunk people in the dining room singing snippets of 80s songs for 2 hours and falling over in their chairs.
  4. I had those mussels not long ago. I would expect them to be good (think Brasa's bar menu) because it's apparently mussel season, but the the sauce/broth is really thick and cloying. I also had halibut cheeks at Elliott's recently. Our waiter raved about them, but they were described inaccurately on the menu and were pretty awful. When he specifically asked about what he had recommended, I told him that I wouldn't order it again. I had some gorgeous buttery RAW seafood last night at Saito's, though!
  5. I'm buried in work, so I won't be able to make it in time. Be sure to get some posole!!!
  6. The ONLY veggie options at Flying Fish are a couple of different types of green salads. This I found out when I went there with a vegetarian not long ago.
  7. Funny, that's what I always say when people talk about the wait at Glo's! I can't agree about the service, however. Their service has always been borderline, and I've had breakfast there probably 50 times.
  8. I can't be there before 5:30 or after, depending on traffic. Everyone please bring CASH for ease of settling the bill after dinner.
  9. La Carta is open only for dinner. Neither LEdlund nor I will be available Sun/Mon. Would Wednesday evening work? I'm looking forward to going back!
  10. Today's email from SCCC: "Just a reminder that we will be offering a buffet tomorrow – Friday, February 13, 2004 outside of room 2114 from 11:15-1:00pm. All you can eat for just $6.50!"
  11. D'ya mean which restaurant to order it in? La Carta de Oaxaca, hands down.
  12. They still haven't sent me menus! Guess it's time to kick ass and take names! Actually, I'll call again tomorrow with a gentle reminder.
  13. Thanks, Anita and Cam, for organizing this dinner. It was so cheap, tasty, and festive that we should do it often!
  14. Top Pot doughnuts started appearing at Swedish a couple of weeks ago, but have already disappeared, replaced once again with an inferior Safeway-type doughnut. I wonder what happened.
  15. Are we talking about dinner? I ran into Laurie A-B, who thought it might be lunch we were planning, but I was under the impression that it was dinner. In any case, I was at Lo Sichuan/Sichuanese Cuisine today to order takeout. A party of 24 has reservations for Tuesday night at 7:30. Thus, if we're going, we should possibly be there by 6:00 or 6:30.
  16. Cassis does that too. That's the only thing I don't really like about the place.
  17. I would be in if it happens on Mon, Tues, or Wed.
  18. I'd like to get the Seattle Culinary Academy lunching thing back on track. I've asked them to email me the menus, and I will try to post them here every week.
  19. It's one place, on 12th & Jackson in the strip mall called Asian Plaza, next door to (I think it's called) Thanh Vi. Then again, it's really two places because they also have a Redmond location. Chinese people call it "Lo Sichuan," but the awning says something like "Sichuan Cuisine Restaurant." Edit: Okay, what Matthew said.
  20. These are two different locations we're talking about (they're really just across the street from one another). La Romantica was on the NE corner of Market and Ballard Ave, and is now a brand new Tex-Mex place (open only a few days now). La Carta de Oaxaca is on Ballard Ave on the west side of the street, next door to People's Pub (open since December). Edited to add that the food at La Carta de Oaxaca was great. Best mole I've ever tasted and the posole was like ambrosia.
  21. Yesterday I noticed a new place in Wallingford on 45th (maybe 45th & Meridian?), in a really pretty white house. I think it's called Djan's, and the sign says something like "Asian-Thai Fusion." It named a website too, but I tried it and it doesn't seem to be up and running. Also while in Ballard the other night with the Edlunds, I noticed that La Romantica's windows were papered over. Are they gone? I've never heard anyone say a kind word about the place.
  22. I had a very disappointing experience at Absinthe in December--terrible table and lousy service (VERY green waitress). I wrote them an email about it, and they never even acknowledged it. Shame on them. There's a possibility that I'm moving to SF and will probably never give them another chance because of shabby treatment.
  23. Perhaps the poster is doing a "project" to see what kind of responses he'll get. I feel so cheap.
  24. I'd pay good money to hear what they're saying about you in the break room. Guys who do this are just SKEEVY. And to consider the casher interrupting you an "insult?" I thought *I* was paranoid.
