  1. 3/18/04 missive from Seattle Central Culinary Academy: It's hard to believe that winter quarter is almost over - please join us for our final buffet tomorrow, Friday, March 19, 2004 from 11:15-1:00 pm outside of room 2BE2114; cost will be $7.35 plus tax. Thank you for continuing to support the culinary arts programs at Seattle Central. We look forward to serving you again on Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
  2. A woman named Cathy Chadwick used to sell fresh wasabi one day a week at Pike Place Market (Wednesdays?). Does anyone know if it's still being sold there, and when?
  3. I'm missing a place I never even went to. Before we went to Issaquah last weekend, I searched the PNW board for mentions of good food there and found a mention of FarFar's, the ice cream place where you could get durian shakes. In looking up the address, I found news stories reporting that it had burned down in January! Supposedly they are going to rebuild--anyone know specifics?
  4. I've been pondering the sequel as well, and am actually free that week. Count me in.
  5. Tried to go on Saturday for lunch, but they're NOT OPEN for lunch on the weekend. I couldn't believe it.
  6. Please notify me when you start selling shares of stock.
  7. I'm a new fan of Cafe Lago, having been there twice in the last month. I had the delicious, ethereal pizza last night for the first time. Husband had the lasagne last night (his first visit). The City of Seattle Eggplant appetizer is served with a spicy, smoky red sauce (reminiscent of chipotle) and a wedge of creamy goat cheese. It was the best eggplant I've had in years. The Lemon Tart is creamy and delicious, and I understand is a new version of the Lemon Tart they've been serving for a long time (thanks in part to Fish [the eGullet member, not the aquatic vertebrate]). It's served with a quenelle of dense whipped cream that has no sugar added and goes brilliantly with the tart/sweet lemon. We loved everything. The menu is simple and the flavors so fresh and well thought out. Carla and the staff couldn't be more gracious.
  8. Good to know, since we're going tomorrow night!
  9. I'm mostly sure they don't have have valet parking.

  11. Your report really inspires me to go this year! Who's your pal, girlchow??
  12. Thanks for bringing this topic up, if only to highlight that girlchow never posted her report last year!
  13. Welcome back, Really Nice!! We missed you! I made extra reservations for Union next week too.
  14. An article is apparently coming out tomorrow (man at Union didn't know if it was Times or P-I) about the restaurants doing an alterna-25/25. So make that reservation now before everyone knows!
  15. Today's missive from Seattle Central: "Today we are starting the CHEF OF THE DAY exercises in both dinning rooms. Please keep in mind that reservations are required. To make reservations please call our office at 587-5424. Fridays will still be an all you can eat buffet." Ah, the stunning detail I've come to expect from the culinary school's administrative assistant. Happy dinning!
  16. It used to be awful, but they got a new chef, and from what I've read it's perhaps gotten a bit better. For the high prices, though, I wouldn't chance it. I would definitely eat elsewhere.
  17. I read somewhere (maybe the Times?) that the Gitano location will house a new restaurant by the owner of Figaro (which he sold to Chopstix). BTW, LEdlund and I walked by Chopstix last night and decided that we had to stop in and take a look. It's really grotty and smelled strongly of bleach. Don't know why, but I actually thought it would be a bit nicer.
  18. I was at the Essential Bakery on Madison this morning, and noticed a business going in next door called Rue de Lyon. The staff at Essential think it might be a new restaurant. Does anyone know?
  19. I like Cupcake Royale pretty well, and you should see how excited kids get in that place. When my coworkers and I went there after lunch at an Ethiopian place, one person said, "I can't say these are any better than Duncan Hines." I agree. It's all about the FROSTING, which is very good at Cupcake Royale. They also cost too much--I don't see why they should be any more than a Top Pot donut. Thanks for the tip on Macrina!
  20. Maybe he thought we were tourists. Don't you have any waiters at your place who tell wacky stories?
  21. Thanks, creepygirl. As usual, your report kicks boo-tay.
  22. You managed to pick the best Thursday in March for me! I'm in, but I have a feeling I'll be going more than once next month.
