I have to arrange a dinner for 10 family members when we are back in the U.K. next month. I've seen alot of press on Racine. Any comments on this establishment would be appreciated. Cheers, Stephen Bonner Vancouver

The wine bar list looks pretty solid to me. I might give the "best title" to Wine Wharf but all in all pretty solid choices. Stephen Bonner

The King Island Roaring Forties just became available in Vancouver. Wow it is one very tasty cheese. Cheers, Stephen Bonner Vancouver

I've had some great seafood paella in Spain but it still has some meat in it. Stephen

Yet to have any good Paella in Vancouver unfortunately. Cheers, Stephen

sounds interesting but the Borough Market offers a course with Iberian willbur's for 50 pounds... if you are in the U.K. of course. Cheers, Stephen

For my 40th birthday a while back Helen had Senses Bakery make a large Stilton cheese cake for 40 people. Just a suggestion. Cheers, Stephen

I thought there is a way for a private person to sell through the BCLD depending on the age of the wine. This is very old so I could be wrong. I thought it had to be 10 years or older? ← You can buy private collections as long as the taxes are paid on them to you know who! Cheers, Stephen

The desserts at Diva at the Met are well worth it. Stephen

Room temperature in Southern Spain without a/c is about 35ºC in summer time. Keep your Old Amontillados, Olorosos or Palo Cortados for your Autumm Game or Risottos.... It will change your smile ← Very good point Cheers, Stephen Average Vancoouver summer temp 21

James, Great suggestion for tea at the Grand; I did not know they had a tea service. I also love the teas from "T". Cheers, Stephen

Well, the cat certainly is out of the bag. Does this mean that you and Helen have adopted Ling? Memo ← Um...o.k. I should have edited that one Stephen

It seems that the cat is out of the bag now on e-gullet member Andrew Morrison's new ventures. Andrew of West Ender fame and "Waiterblog" has now moved onto bigger and better ventures. Expect guest appearances on Urban Rush with Jamie Maw, a new food website, and who knows what. Congrats on taking over the editorialship of the soon to be released Urban Diner website along with our own Ling adding exceptional commentary and photo's of the Vancouver food scene. Congrats, Stephen

London food scene from a chef's viewpoint
SBonner replied to a topic in United Kingdom & Ireland: Dining
Not being a chef but a FOH guy I would recommend looking at Tom Aitkens, La Gavroche, Gordon Ramsey's Royal Hospital Road, and St. John's as the places to work. In my humble opinion Tom Aiktens is the chap to watch! Cheers, Stephen Bonner -
Truth be told: Where've you eaten lately? (Part 2)
SBonner replied to a topic in Western Canada: Dining
Brunch at Cassi Bistro on Saturday and Sunday. Try the Cassis benny with a truffle wild mushroom hollandaise and the black cod benny with a citrusy lemon hollandaise. We were there at 11:30 and twelve and it was quiet in the dining room with most guests seeking out the patio. The benny's are $13.50. Cheers, Stephen -
Salt sounds like a spin-off of Batali's Bar Jamon in on Irving Place in New York City. We ate there last April, and I will definitely return when I'm back in September. http://www.newyorkmetro.com/listings/restaurant/bar-jamon/ Anyone else been to both? Glad that Vancouver is learning that the best form of a compliment is a spin-off. Bravo. ← Mr. Heather is a big fan of Batali and his father in Seattle (lamb proscuitto). he spent some time in NY and Seattle for inspiration. Nice to see a piece of NY in YCR. Cheers, Stephen Bonner ← Don't quote me. I just know that Sean has been to Batali's father's place in Seattle and he did once bring back some of the stunning lamb proscuitto for personal consumption which I got to taste. I have not been to SALT so I do not know if it is there. Stephen

What does that entail? ← A long sleek bathroom with a centre stainless steel sink. The men's and women's rooms are separated; just a unisex big sink. I've seen a number of these in Barcelona. Stephen

Berry Brothers will have a decent selection available. Cheers, Stephen Bonner

Well... great ending to the show I thought Virgina would be the winner but congtats to Heather. My only disappointment was that they did not bring back the chap who won last year. It would have been nice to have him as a judge or even work in one of the kicthens. I would have loved to hear about his "stage" in London which he took over running a restaurant in the U.S. Stephen Bonner Vancouver/ London

Capri 19 on Water Street is closed. Cheers, Stephen

Unfortunately you and the rest of us are out of luck in this regards. You may have some luck as stated above with winery re-releases of libray stock. B.C. is still a young wine producer so it is it and miss on the provenence of older vintages. Cheers, Stephen

Love Spain but thank god we did not pick up their tea drinking bad habits. The Spanish have no idea about tea . You're right we are still a colony and the Empress is a beauty to look at. I just want to drink my Assam or Darjeeling in loose leaf form and not a tea bag. Shame on the Empress with tea bag tea..."pity just in Canada you say" Cheers, Stephen

After having had more than eight experiences at this establishment and seeing several egullet members on several occasions but no posts I thought I would add my comments since none of you have to start the thread rolling. You should try the: Golden Beet Cervice with scallops Bok Choy with Chorizo and tomato Potato Bravas The beef tenderloin medallions with Stilton and bone marrow Trio of truffles (the matcha and pistachio ) Today's fresh sheet had New Zealand venison and Bison ribeye They have a great patio on the corner of Alexander and Water Street (80+ seats) and a very European communal bathroom. Nice room inside with a open kitchen for the entertainment of solo diners. In the works, a large solid wood communal table for private dining, and a 3 metre wide illuminated glass canopy for outside dining during the autumn. No comments on the wine list as I am consulting on it. Cheers, Stephen Bonner Restaurant website www.chillwinston.ca Website
