  1. I've found them to not be all that aromatic; therefore not really worth the money. I think you're better off buying some good quality truffle oil instead. Stephen Bonner

  5. I think tourists will make up a good share of the business for the summer/cruise ship season. Along with cash rich servers after shift and the growing population of young childless professionals now residing downtown. SB

  7. Helen and I have been back to So.Cial twice in the last fortnight to try some of the great meat Sean Cousins is now offering on the dinner menu. The beef tenderloin is aged for 21 days and cuts like butter. I cannot wait for the butcher shop to open hopefully next week so I can grill some at home. Give it a try when your in my neck of the woods. SB

    Pizza

    Good post.... I have not had a good pizza for sometime. Rocky Mountain is pretty good although it is Alberta based. Incendio in Gastown is a lot better than anything on the Drive.

  11. Not when it is illegal to BYOB to a restaurant and your budget is $150! Sorry to burst your bubble but your budget is way out of wack for a wine event now days. I've read your posts in the past and I know you like great chocolate, NY, and Kitchen Aid set the bar higher and have a great wine event. Cheers, Stephen

    1960 Vintage

    I guess if you go with a Bordeaux look at a larger format it may have held together a bit better. Have you thought of Chianti or Piedmont as an option? Cheers, Stephen Bonner

  18. Squash is pretty popular in the U.K and the Commonwealth. They are fruit concentrates that you usually add water or soda to to get a refreshing summer drink. They are in the most part very sweet and loaded with sugar. I've seen the coloured and clear in the U.K. The most common flavours are lemon and orange. Stephen Bonner Vancouver

    Freezing Wine

    When we have had a mediocre bottle of wine I'll usually freeze it in the ice cube tray to use in cooking and stocks. Stephen Bonner
  21. Any idea when the new Urban fare at West Pender and Bute will be opening? Their sign mentions a coffee bar and restaurant; I hope they mean a real restaurant rather than the food court they have at the Yaletown location. SB
  22. I had a quick peek into Boneta two nights ago. It is going to be a smashing looking room. Nice long bar, a wine room for Neil, and a pretty hot espresso machine. Colour scheme and arcitectural elements really show off the room. Stephen Bonner

  24. Here's my take on the subject highlighted in red Not really... terrior can be tasted in Australian Rieslings, New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, South African Pinotage/Chenin Blanc. Oregon and Okanagan Pinot Gris, etc etc Cheers, Stephen Bonner

    White House Sommelier

    You would think that the White House would have a cellar with verticals and top vintages of some of the finest produced thought out your country for state dinners. In the U.K. the HOP has a splendid cellar of Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy and a splatting of English wine. In Canada we have a cellar on Parliament Hill of various wines produced across Canada for state functions. Brings up a point of interest do more Democrats or Republicans drink wine? I remember years ago when I worked in a wine shop in Vancouver one of my best customers was a left wing labour/union leader who always bought me out of Silver Oaks, Leonetti, and Opus.
