  1. Had a friend over last night who's wife is away. He eats meat, she doesn't so I told him I'd cook for him. Started with Ginger-ini's and goat cheese with a dollop of homemade pesto on toasted baguette. Pan roasted beef tenderloins with chantrelles, green beens, garlic and rosemary. This is my favorite way to do steak, sear for about 3 mins on the stove then flip and put the whole thing in the oven for about 15mins. Took everything out of the pan and deglazed it with some Pinot Noir, then added a bit of homemade beef stock, re seasoned and simmered till thickened. Put everything back in the pan to coat and then plate. Very tastey! Hubby made carmel which we drizzeled over vanilla ice cream for dessert!
  2. I normally am very happy with the cheese selection at Met Market and Whole Paycheck but I have to tell you that I've been trying to buy a reblochon for 2 weeks now and they don't have it! grrrr! can you imagine such a travesty in france??? Where is the Fisher Plaza? Denny and 5th???
  3. Also just read that Walter Pisano is now back at Tulio! Very good news for them, he is a steller chef IMO. He says that he will be looking to change and update the menu there a bit. Excellent!
  4. So glad I'm not the only one who felt this way!! The space is weird! Like it use to be a Denny's in a strip mall. But the food was fantstic! Who wants to tell the owner to update so we can all be in love with the food and the atmosphere??
  5. Hubby made 6 hour slow cooked beans yesterday, we grilled some chicken breasts with a smokey bbq sauce and I made a little corn bread to go with. Tonight I'm using the leftover corn bread in a cornbread pudding to go with a roasted turkey breast with sage butter. Also trying to find nice bridges from summer to fall.......

  8. Just got back from a little nosh at Tat's. My girlfriend and I walked over for lunch. We got a Tats-rami that had cole slaw and russian dressing and a meat ball sub. The meatball wasn't to my liking but the Tatsrami was yummy!!! and these guys are really nice in there! we asked them to cut each of the 8" subs in half for us because we were going to share and they delivered them to our table already split and half of each on our plates. We'll definately head back to try other subs. It's not like eating sandwiches in Philly but it's good!
  9. Dayne and I had brunch on Sunday. The brunch goes from 10-2 and is still pretty quiet, you didn't need a reservation. We each had a little breakfast cocktail, mine was made with Lemencello, strawberry puree and Prosecco...now that is how I like to start my Sundays! We shared a little bruschetta to start, it's one of our favorites! Crostoni della Enoteca Trimani....Their menu reads.."Toasted Macrina bread brushed with batuto and topped with quivering, luscious fresh mozzarella then baked in the oven until bubbly; garnished with Tonasket Billy's organic rocket" Damn it is sooo good! Then Dayne had the Borsellino della Pasqua -Two crisp black forest ham “baskets” filled with soft polenta and sautéed mushrooms; topped with poached eggs 12.95 and I had the Frittata con Peperoni The Italian classic featuring piquillo pepper, spinach, goat cheese, and herbs; served with farmhouse potatoes 9.95. Both were excellent and way too much food after our generous serving of bruschetta. They were out of the grilled lamb loin which I really want to try. Excellent mochas and lattes. The service was a bit slow but seeing as it was a leisurly sunday morning for us it wasn't really a problem. They are still getting into the swing of the brunch thing. We'll be back to try a few more things for sure! And of course here is a place you can go totally casual or a bit nicer.

  12. Haha! My husband does this too! Also we have a few timers in the house, we each have a favorite. I'm really working on timing things for short amount of minutes like 5, 10, 15, etc. when I'm sauteing, browning, etc. I just need to really work on knowing what 5 mins really is. For this I usually glance at the clock and then mentally time it.

  15. The post about who uses recipes and who wings it had me thinking last night (as I was winging it with chantrelles!)..... I reached for the timer and set it for my pasta, not because I don't know when pasta is done but because I have a habit of getting involved with other things and forgetting about stuff on the stove or in the oven!! (especially when I'm toasting things in the oven! grrrrrr) So what about you? Do you always use a timer? Never use a timer? I also find that sometimes I undercook things if I don't time them. I usually think it's been x number of minutes but in reality it hasn't. And of course I always use a timer (and recipe!) when baking!
  16. Well first off we have a little saying here in Seattle "FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS EAT FARMED FISH". I have never seen/heard or found worms in my salmon and believe me we eat a lot of it!! As far as the "warm water" thing I know that salmon is caught in the bay area of CA, is that considered warm (vs. WA, Canada and Alaskan). Also, what kind of salmon is this??? I think that this should be moved to Gen Food so that "fish experts" can chime in!
  17. For lunch you don't need to go all fancy. I always travel with at least one pair of 3" heels but that's just me. I wear heels with jeans, I like them! I hope you have the chance to order the lamb with a coffee veil! It is amazing!! By the way.....WELCOME to eGullet! or at least to posting!
  18. My husband and I had lunch at Arzak in July. We were really surprised at how casual 70% of the people were! We dressed 'business casual' while many others were in jeans (and not the expensive kind!!). Anyway, I wore a cotton skirt and print top, hubby wore khaki's and a short sleeve silk button shirt. We saw the staff giving some of the jean wearers some interesting looks! But it's definately not a suit place at lunch time. Also we had lunch reservations for 1:30 pm and were the first ones there! Have fun, you will LOVE it!!! We actually took pictures of our food
  19. hubby and I are discussing our budgets for the Julia dinner. Anita, can you tell me more about your past experiences? Is there a post about them? I've always really enjoyed meals at TD restaurants but haven't been to an "event" before.

Speaking of the bakery I just read this in their FreshSheet: Month of October Join us this October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in the Dahlia Lounge & Dahlia Bakery for 'Athena's Dessert for the Cure'. Eating dessert never felt so good! 100% of the profits from our specially created pink desserts will go to fund women's breast cancer research in Seattle. Just another good reason to head to Dahlia Bakery!
  21. I was on Orcas last weekend and we purchased some cheeses from their shop. Very nice selection!! Also they had some really good North Willamette wine from a few wineries that I know are sold out! Just an over all nice little retail shop. Will try their pizza next time!
  22. I'm using my chantrelles tonight for a penne dish. I think I'll do onions, shallots, thyme and the mushrooms and make it into a cream sauce with parm. I'm a sucker for creamy, cheesy, penne!
  23. Pesos on lower QA has good drinks as does 10 Mercer. The sitting room use to be great, haven't been there in a while (Roy st). Hilltop up on QA has great beers. Paragon use to be ok on weeknights.
