  1. Congrats!! I was watching to see if you got your reservations! How exciting for you! Well I know we will be in for a great dining report at the end of the summer!
  2. Thanks Serge, Btw, I really like the book 'A Meal Observed'!
  3. Cake Walk Sweets in Store sugar Patisserie Katie slice Craving Cakes The Cake Box Pastry Please ok, sorry!! I got carried away!
  4. When you are at your cheese shops or the sections in the grocery look for little baskets that have odd small pieces in it. I have found this at both my grocery stores that have nice cheese sections. There are small pieces of cheese, usually the ends or small cuts for $1-$3. I think this is a great way to try different cheeses. Current favs are Comte, Pe'tit Basque, Pecorino
  5. Do you have to use a real popover tin or can a muffin tin work?
  6. I think there are different rooms at Taillevent as we sat in a richly paneled room that was very dimly lit, not dark but nice and private feeling. Can't imagine anyone thinking that the food was similar to brasserie food! But then again I had the tasting menu so again that may have been different.
  7. I was on the Eastside yesterday (shhhh, don't tell anyone! ) so a friend and I had dinner at SeaStar. Having heard such a mix of reviews I was bracing for a not so great meal. First off this is like a little power business spot. Many men in blue suits at large tables. Then there are the special event tables- birthdays and anniversarys. The wine list is really nice and has a great area in the front with lots of recommendations ranging from $22 to $358. The only glitch in our service all night was at the beginning when I waited 20 mins for my server to come over and ask if I wanted something while I waited for my friend. Duh!! So I ordered a 4 oz taste of a white that sounded promising for dinner. She brought me a full glass without the extra charge. Baskets of bread- flatbread, wheat and baguette were also a bit "Benjamin" in style but the flatbread was really good! We ordered a very inexpensive 2002 Domaine de Puoy, Gascogne and were surprised when the sommelier came over and presented it to us. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised but I laughed to myself as this is a $9 wine at the grocery store! haha! Perfect with our meal though. We shared the Washington roll to start- salmon, apple and crab. I really liked the apple with the rich fish in this! I had the parmesean crusted talapia and my friend had the escarol with pineapple/pomegrante salsa. Hers won for flavors and kick! Both of our dishes were done perfectly. Crispy seared on the outside - light and moist on the inside. Large portions also. No dessert for us. Thought the bill was fair. Also when I went to grab my car out of valet park I noticed that it said it was $5 with validation. When I mentioned this outloud the valet said, 'you already paid don't worry' but it wasn't on our bill inside. Not sure if the waitress comp'd or the valet did but it was nice. on a side note my friend got seastar and seagarden mixed up. She parked and went into Sea Garden, they laughed and said that happens all the time.
  8. Just bought some there last week for $0.30 each. Will be stopping in to buy more on Fri so don't buy them all foodie-girl!! Leave some for the other foodies!
  9. Had a GREAT $12.50 lunch today at Flying Fish. Really, really good! they were busy so our service wasn't super quick but that was fine. I started with the smoked shrimp springrolls which had chinese sausage in them and some great little sauces on the plate. Della had the clam chowder which was really rich and had a cute little crouton in it. Lunch for me was the Mahi Mahi with yummy mashed potatoes and a ginger sauce. Della had the True Cod on a bed of yummy veggies. Dessert of the pear and cranberry crisp for her and gappa chocolate brownie for me. The food was just top notch! And the space is really nice in the daytime, lots of sun streaming in. Good portions, perfectly cooked fish, good selection of things. I always like FF for dinner and now would say it's a great place for lunch too!

  13. Which Dreamland did you go to? We were at the one in Tuscaloosa this spring and thought it was very good. The white bread and sauce just makes me laugh!
  14. click here for 'DIY Red Wine Vinegar, why isn't mine working?' thread ← You rock!!! Thank you!
  15. there was another thread on making vinegar and I'm having a hard time finding it. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  16. It wasn't that anything was terrible, in fact everything was very good but none of the meals were in my "Best Ever" category although Bradley Ogden was pretty close. I've been spoiled the last few years and have been to lots of fantastic restaurants in different cities. And outside of a few very good "food cities" (New York, SF, etc) there aren't many destinations that have such a concentration of restaurants. Plus, there are plenty of other things in Las Vegas to hold your interest. ←
  17. Great post jogoode!! thank you!
  18. I was reading the site again today and it looks like there is another cookbook in the works. they are looking for some help on it too. Intern Opening
  19. No, I don't... It's in the local Tar-jais store and I've thumbed through it there, but so far have opted not to buy it. Do you have it? The recipe was supplied as a testing assignment from Leite's Culinaria. It was good... delicious, easy, and very inviting of wine! ← We will get a signed copy on Monday as part of our dinner! ← Lucky you...I met her a few years ago before her recent cookbooks and TV show (Simply Wine) on the Fine Living Network. Do you know if she still lives in the Princeton Area? If so, I will try to attend one of her events and get my book signed. ← I'm not sure if she lives there or not. She is married now and pregnant! Very very nice woman. Btw Susan, Dayne was flipping through the cookbook and pointed to somthing saying 'mmmm' and there is a picture of that soup! I said 'oh yeah, Susan in FL made that the other day!' haha!
  20. So that is a week in Seattle. I want to thank you all so much for taking the time to post your questions and comments. You made it very fun to share with you!! Thanks again for reading, I hope you enjoyed!! Wendy (& Dayne, Klondike and Bisou!)
  21. Good morning, I'm just going to finish up from our dinner last night. Some fellow PNW eGulleters, Mr and Mrs Toast, Really Nice! and ms. Really Nice! Dayne and I had dinner at Serafina for another Cooks and Books Series welcoming Andrea Immer. The meal started with passed antipasti of Goat Cheese Canapes, Kusshi Oysters on the half shell, Bean and Black Olive Bruschetta, Polenta Pizzettes with Poached Pear and Gorgonzola all served with glasses of Blanc de Blancs Domaine Ste Michelle sparkling. The oysters were my favorite! The first dishe was lemon herb prosciutto shrimp served with glasses of Pieropan Soave Classico Superiore 2002. I thought the shrimp were fantastic! Next was Butternut Squash Risotto served with Barbera d'Alba Conterno Fantino "Vignota" 2002. The risotto unfortunately wasn't done enough but the squash was in cubes and not mushy! It was very good. Andrea Immer came around to each table and was very gracious as she chatted while signing books. Oloroso Sherry Glazed Pork Chops with Mushrooms were served with Barbaresco Poderi Colla "Roncaglia" 2001 which was decanted first. The pork chop was fantastic as was the pureed sweet potatoes that came with. Hald of mine is in the fridge at home! It was huge!! Dessert was a soft cookie sandwich with mascarpone and cherries served with Moscato d'Asti Paolo Saracco 2003. The cookie reminded me of a whoopie pie! yum! I really liked the 'simplicity' of this. The dessert wine was quite unusual for me, kind of half sparkling but not all the way. We had a really good time at dinner and enjoyed the company of our table!! Thanks you guys.
  22. Yeahhhh!! I'm really looking forward to our dinner tonight. I will probably end up posting the photos tomorrow morning. Soba said this was not a problem! Thanks Soba! I'm staying away from the deli with all their pretty bags of chocolate in favor for my bottle of water. I don't want to spoil my dinner!!!
  23. You know how they say that if you are craving sweets you should have a piece of fruit??? snack. Very yummy asian pear from our market. I love these! They are not overly juicy as I find regular pears to be sometimes (don't like juice all over my keyboard! ) and just the right sweet tart tang that apples have. I still want chocolate though!! Chufi I'm glad you like that. We think it's important to remember all the places and things we've done together as best we can. It's nice to bring a bit of romance into your home after being at work and battling the world all day. It's very fun to grab them and say "oh look, remeber when we were here......"
